Has anyone tried out felguard in a zoolock deck? I know it destroys a crystal but a 3/5 turn 3 is still really powerful I feel enough that the three mana next turn can still spit out at least one creature and possibly 2. Whats everyones thoughts on this. And or testing experience?
Felguard would need some sort of follow-up like a demonfire so you could potentially get a turn 4 5/7 taunt. But that's being quite optimistic. It's otherwise a very poor card considering Sen'jin is the exact same stats, just costs 1 more mana. And overall felguard (like quite a few of the demon cards) in their current state are quite weak overall and not worth their drawbacks. Thus why Flame Imp and Doomguard are the only two that are commonly played. Hell, even Jaraxxus has a drawback. Max hp of 15 and his hero ability is just like the paladin's but obviously much better. But this means unlike almost every other hero ability in the game; nothing happens the turn they're played (by themselves).
I remember trying a 'Tempo Warlock' deck as well that utilized two Succubi. I had moderate success with that deck up until around rank 5; then the card loss was too much due to the abundance of lightning bolt, wrath, fiery war axe, and so on. The big thing that hurts demon cards as a whole is that pretty much every class can deal with them the turn after they're played, so they not only destroy your creature but now you've just suffered a drawback and gained nothing for it. I also tried a single Pit Lord, which was quite fun as well considering he killed yetis for me. The deck inevitably was unable to carry me beyond that point though so I just let it go.
But back on-topic; I wouldn't mind Felguard being turned into a 4/5 with taunt so it's like a yeti with taunt a turn early, that way he can handle more creatures and still live (most likely 2 for 1 like a yeti). But even that would be a bit optimistic considering you're then 1 mana behind the rest of the game.
I think the justification for some demons being the way they are is because warlock class cards can function off the fact they're demons (Demonfire, Sacrificial Pact). In Naxx I expect to be throwing pit lords into my warlock deck alongside the new warlock card. But I'm still thinking if that's worth it.
Edit: I remember I had a really funny idea. Turn 6 Doomguard-Faceless shenanigans.
Attack with Voidcaller on hero (3dmg) -> Sac. Pact (pull out doomguard) -> Power Overwhelming Doomguard -> Faceless Doomguard -> Double hit for 18 (21 dmg with charge, turn 6). Possibly even followed up with a soulfire for 25 dmg and if the RNG gods smile upon me, a second soulfire for 29 dmg, which is bordering the realm of OTK (once 10 mana is considered).
Really appreciate your in depth response! I agree. I really hope they can make them worthwhile. I always wanted to try pit lord or felguard. Really sucks they cant work in really any deck at the moment =[
That would be some crazy shenanigans if you could pull that off lol.
Its not good due to his battlecry. You pĺay him on round 3 and you cant play defender of argus next time, you play him on round 2 and youll be behind for rest of the game...

It's terrible, never worth it. Ahead one turn, behind for the rest of the game.
Unless explicitly stated, my posts are my opinion and mine only.
Thanks Modded. Do you believe it can be good in any deck?
Not in its current state. At 10 mana, 3 mana vs. 3 for taz dingo is mostly negligible. Otherwise you're behind.
There are no room in decks for cards that are terrible at worst, and okay at best.

I don't see Pit Lord being viable until Naxx. A lot of decks in the current meta specialize in "Finishers". Dropping down 5 hp isn't really viable.
It's a shame Felguard is so bad because the golden version is pretty much the best card ever. (he's got a gold shining tooth)
