great news with the 6 classic cards that are leaving standard
one question
i have golden and normal copies of each card
the announcement says we only get dust refunds for the cards that can be put into a deck so only 2 azure drakes
what happens if you have 2 normal and 2 gold ones? Do you get refunds for both? This needs to be clarified because i dont want to miss out on free dust for gold cards if i still have normal versions in my collection
I have exactly the same question. I've got some extra dust at the moment, so I want to craft as many of these cards as I can, including golden versions if you get the dust back afterwards. Amazing opportunity regardless, because I don't have Sylvanna's currently.
It's not exactly greed - i just want to be sure i dont miss out on like 8k dust on some technicality because i have the normal versions of the cards in my collection...
The way I read it, if you have both the golden and the normal one card, you get the golden dust, but not the normal dust.
3460 dust if you have them all non golden.
If you have a normal Rag now and you craft a golden one, you'll get the golden dust and you can dust your normal one, so you are plus 400 dust at that point.
Six cards are moving over to a new Wild-only set called the Hall of Fame set. If you own any of these cards, you will keep them and gain dust equal to their creation value when the rotation hits.
We recommend crafting these cards if you don't have them already, especially the golden versions. If you own both versions of a card, gold and normal, you will only get dust for the golden card, so you should dust the normal version now.
So I think that answers the question. But it's weird they say "you should dust the normal version now", It's rather "you can dust the normal version if you want", or just not mention it at all.
Correct me if im wrong, but i thing there is no point in crafting golden cards if you already own a copy of that card, i will explain:
If say you have a normal ragnaros you will get 1600 dust back and keep the ragnaros = 1600 dust and if you decide to DE the ragnaros too = 2000.
If you craft golden ragnaros then you spent 3200 dust and you are getting 3200 back (the sum =0) + 1600 if you DE that golden ragnaros = 1600. Its the same amount of dust back as if u had normal ragnaros already.
SO i guess there is no dust profit for crafting a golden version of a card if you already own the max amount of copies you cant put into a deck..
If you have a normal Rag, and you craft a golden one, then you'll get the dust back for the golden one (sum 0), but now you can dust your normal rag and be plus 400.
If you have a normal Rag, and you craft a golden one, then you'll get the dust back for the golden one (sum 0), but now you can dust your normal rag and be plus 400.
And if you do nothing you'll get 1600 dust for your Rag and be at +1600.

There may not be any dust profit but you still get a free golden copy(s) of the card(s). Obviously, having the dust to craft will be the obstacle, but if you save up and craft a golden copy of Syl & Rags you will get refunded for doing so, and have 2 of the best Legs in the game as golden copies. If you have either of them in non-golden you are effectively 400 dust closer to crafting the golden copy. Off to craft I go.....
Yeah i you are right i will do the same probably ;p
Upon re-reading the original post by blizz, it seems that indeed you get the dust for the highest costing card(s) with a max of what you can put in your deck. This would make sense, as people with the cards are bummed out that they can't play them in standard anymore, but you can only play 1/2 copies in your deck anyway, even if you have both golden and non-golden. This way they stop people with a big collection from capitalizing on DEing all their copies for full value (Kripp will be salty), but on the other hand if you are interested in having a complete (golden collection), you can craft these cards now and get them for at reduced cost/free.
In general, if you don't have the cards, craft golden copies of the cards. If you don't have the dust for that, just craft the regular versions. If you have the regular versions and are interested in the golden cards, you can get them at a reduced cost. Side Note: If you don't care about goldens, craft Golden copies of the common rarity cards and DE them afterwards = +10 dust per card for your efforts :D
Overview of costs/return if you own regular copy:
Ragnaros/Sylvanna's Don't do anything = +1600 Craft Golden = -3200+3200= 0 (i.e. cost of crafting golden = 1600) Craft Golden, dust regular = -3200+3200+400 = +400 (i.e. cost of crafting golden would be 1200) Craft Golden, Dust golden = -3200 + 3200 +1600 = +1600 (i.e. don't bother)
What if you craft golden versions of all the affected cards, wait for the free dust and then dust the goldens for their normal disenchant cost?
At least with my logic it should work out so that you'll get +1600 from golden legendaries etc. But for example I have regular rag and I'll get 1600 dust for doing nothing. If I crafted golden one, I'd get my dust back when rotation hits and 1600 dust for disenchanting the golden afterwards. So in either way I'd end up with +1600 dust. This is also true with the other rarities.
To simplify: if you already own a normal version of the card, crafting a golden one and DEing it later WON'T GET YOU MORE DUST. Sadly.
EDIT: oh wait, MrZNF above me is correct, crafting those commons will get you some extra dust.
If you already have a Ragnaros and want to get another legendary, it is better to do just nothing ( or to craft the golden one, then dust it). You can craft a second legendary.
If you craft a golden version and only disenchant your regular one, you only have 1/4 of the dust requirement for a second legendary.

This is why I am not thinking about crafting golden rag/sylvan. As F2P and a long time player I would rather get the 2 free legs worth of dust than golden's in wild. After all there'll be an expac release with these changes.
2 free legs from the Un'guro is way way better value to me.

I think you're wrong on the bold part of this. The blurb on the front page reads as follows:
The Rundown
Blackrock Mountain, The Grand Tournament, and The League of Explorers all rotate out of Standard with The Year of the Mammoth.
Six cards from Classic are being moved to Wild-only.
You cannot dust these cards, but if you own them, Blizzard is going to just give you Arcane Dust.
You will only get the dust for the copies you have that can be included in a deck. If you have 3 Azure Drakes, disenchant one today.
NOTE the underlined "You cannot dust these cards" portion, since I can't highlight or change the text color/size.
I'm not sure if that particular text is directly from the developers or if it's the interpretation of someone here on hpwn, but it makes sense to me that they'll essentially make it so you can't DE these cards. I'm not sure how that would work since players will still need to craft them, but then not be able to DE?
So if I miss both Ragnaros and Sylvanas now I should craft them in golden for 2x3200 which reults in 2x3200 dust back after the rotation?
Then it seems that the only risk I take by doing so is the risk of opening them (let's say normal versions) in packs during the next 2 months (then I get 400 dust for each now or after rotation instead of 1600)?
Yes, if you don't have these lgendaries already crafting them in golden will net you free golden legendaries. You won't net +/- dust either way in that position.

Should you craft/disenchant (Golden) Sylvanas or Ragnaros?

good question, i wanna know about this also... :)
S U P E R !!
The quote was the number of cards you can put into a deck. They are only refunding one Ragnaros the Firelord, one Sylvanas Windrunner, two Azure Drake, and two PO, IL, and Conceal.

I'm concerned about the wording of 'you should dust the normal versions now'... agree it should be phrased differently because it makes me doubtful

Is it safe to disenchant normal versions of cards that we already have golden?
