Hi all, looking for some advice here. I play HS on two accounts - my American account is my "serious" one that I've actually spent $$$ on, and my Asia one is my completely F2P one. I tend to keep almost everything on my main account, but I am a lot more ruthless on my F2P one and I basically dust everything I don't need.
At least, that's the plan, but the thing is I have no idea what I want to build on my F2P account. I plan to only play Standard on that, since I play Wild on my main. I'm not super hardcore about HS (got lots of stuff to do IRL) but I figure it can't hurt to hit 15 on ladder each month or so.
I do enjoy making my own decks and tinkering with them, but I also believe in asking others for advice/tips/suggestions, because two minds are better than one and all that.
Also, I use HS mainly as a language-learning tool (see my other posts on the subject) so my rubric for building decks is kinda strange - I want to build lots of them (learn more words with more cards!) and I prioritize cards that have voiced dialogue, so I can well, learn more words. That being said, the deck still has to work, so they need spells and stuff. I won't gimp myself on purpose just to build a bad deck.
There are two, potentially 3 decks that you can build pretty easily on a F2P account:
Pirate Warrior, Zoo, and C'Thun Druid.
Zoo has kinda fallen by the wayside of late but you should still be able to hit rank 15 with it each month. It'll be much easier with Pirates though. And C'Thun Druid, while not the best is just a solid, honest midrange deck. Nothing wrong with that!
You could also probably put a decent budget Aggro Shaman together as well.
In this meta, Pirates are probably the best. And nobody can doubt the value of learning how to say AAARGH in another language!
Since it's a f2p account probably should look at the classes with the best Classic set cards.
So you could start with a Warrior shell, that bastard has always been in the meta, t1 or top t2, like a cockroach.
Or a Warlock shell, it has great little tools in form or soulfire, MC and PO, good evergreen AoE and with his hero power you don't have to add card draw to your decks.
And lastly the Druid shell, they offer strong decks with a nice variety of playstyles.
If i were to start all over again i'd pick the Warrior, this little cockroach just never goes away.

The 1st step towards a better game is firing Mike Donais! We had enough of his "skillful" balances!
If you want to learn languages, just build a deck for every class on your main account and play them in Casual. Climbing requires playing a lot of games with 1-2 decks, so you'd be bored with the same cards (and sounds) very fast. Use limited resources of your 2nd account for something effective.
Source: I play HS in three foreign languages, English not included. Never played a single game in my own.

Playing Hearthstone in German solely for Garrosh sounds. Sieg oder Tod!
Hey thanks for all the great suggestions and replies!
I already have Pirate Warrior (with no Patches, sadly) and Zoo on my main account. C'Thun Druid sounds promising. What does Aggro Shaman look like?
What do you mean by Warrior Shell? Like Execute, Cleave and all the good basic cards?
I can actually hit 15 pretty easily each month...I've been playing CCGs for a long time, and I consider myself a good player. Also, in terms of language learning, positive reinforcement (i.e hearing the lines again and again) goes a long way, and I'm more an audio-visual learner, so playing Ladder is mainly to get used to seeing the same text and voices repeatedly. Repetition is important in language acquisition.
Also nice to see I'm not the only one learning languages through HS. :)
I opened an Aya Blackpaw on my F2P, so I will probably build a Jade something...maybe Jade Druid. I also have a Raxa (golden no less) so I thought of building Reno Priest, but I have no Reno on my F2P and I would probably rather just dust the Raxa and build 5 other decks.
zoo is probably the best bet for a f2p account with little time investment, it uses no legendaries, excepting for variants with leeroy and thanks to a broken hero power will always be viable as long as blizzard releases workable 2 drops.. since they already have the 1 drop slot pretty much covered in the evergreen set, Zoo's history has aways been of a few warlock cards plus a bunch of neutrals and the hero power made it work, there was even a particular meta where zoo was 28 minions and 2 soulfires, granted that's when Soulfire used to cost 0 mana but it kinds of shows zoo's flexibility
