Basic Freeze mage deck with some tweaks to make it work on Noth and Heigan.
For Noth you want as little minions out as possible, so try to stall without using many minions, only throwing out your card generators if you have solutions in your hand to deal with the minions you'll spawn by playing them or Iceblock/Ice barrier to eat the damage you will incur. Those 5/5 HURT, so be smart about spawning them.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Noth has the Counterspell secret in his deck, so be careful you play around it and not waste your Frost Nova and watch it fizzle and ruin what was a good plan. He also has the Ice Block secret, so keep that in mind when you are getting ready for the kill.
Heigan is easier then Noth with this deck. Just play the deck like you normally would by stalling and trying to get Alexstraza + some burn spells in your hand. His Hero Power that damages your minions is of little consequence for us, since our minions are basically only there for the card draw, and whatever damage the manage to do is a bonus.
Play tips:On both bosses you try to stall and get card draw so you get your combo of Alexstraza + Burn cards (usually Frostbolt + Icelance + Icelance, or a Fireball mixed in). Stall early by using hero power and getting secrets up. Try to not use Frost Nova or Doomsayer unless you can play both in one turn. Use your health as a resource, taking damage is FINE, as long as you don't die. Don't be afraid to get hit in the face for 2 turns and watch his board get massive, if you have Frost Nova + Doomsayer in hand to wipe his board effieciently.
Mulligan strategy:
I tried keeping Doomsayer+Forst Nova and for the rest mulligan for Alex, since she starts your combo. The rest of the deck should be usuable as it comes up in card draws and not be needed right away.
Card info:
I tried to keep the deck as low in dust cost as possible while still making it work. Some cards you can switch is an Acolyte of pain for a card like a second Flamestrike or Archmage Antonidas or another card that will help you set up a kill better and you can switch the Kobold for Bloodmage Thalnos for more card draw while keeping the spelldamage.
This deck sucks, he just kills off the doomsayer.
got it at the first attempt so easy, thanks.
Thanks for the deck. I've been trying to kill Heigan with a lock deck and just couldn't. Got him on the second try. The first time I just didn't have the cards.
WOW, so yea I forgot alexstraza and accidentally put deathwing in there along with a pyroblast. Due to fatigue damage, I got him down to 20 health. I then pyroblasted him, then played deathwing and killed him with fatigue dmg of all things, all while I had one health. Thanks for the deck info only thing I changed was no minions under 5 hp except one azure drake, and thalnos.
This is the only deck that worked for me. Tried Warlock, Priest and Hunter but didn't work. Alexstrasza made my day.
with they would nerf alextrasza for every heroic, its a key card for all the builds, just remove 60% the health gg
huge thx for the deck. I managed to beat it the first time I played it after playing 10+ times with several others. I got really lucky with some of my topdecks and I did go through my entire deck but I managed to ping him at the end for the last 1 point of damage with my hero power.
Heigan is not a "pushover" for this deck. I've played a dozen games so far and get run over by turn 6.
I've played plenty of freeze mage and know how to play the deck. I strongly suggest you don't set people's expectations too high.
Fair enough. I'll change it to "Easier then Noth", since I really do feel Heigan is much easier to keep under control then Noth is with his 5/5's.
I was able to get through him the first time. I don't know that it was necessarily a "pushover" but it was not difficult at all when I used this deck (on normal mode).
Heroic mode is something quite different and I"m testing the deck out now on that mode. I suspect however, that this deck wasn't intended for Heroic.
**EDIT**
Perhaps you were referring to Heroic mode after all. If so, I would agree with you. This deck does not seem to do jack vs Heroic Heigan.
Euh, no I meant that this deck works for Heroic Noth and Heigan both, and Heigan should be easier then Noth, since he doesn't turn your card draws into 5/5's, and has no Counterspell and Ice Block to screw up your tactics.
Not saying Heroic Heigan is the easiest fight you've ever done, but with being able to use your card draw minions like you want + Mindpocalypse spell he does you should draw into your combo on time. The rest is simply using the control abilities in the deck to not get killed before turn 9 and 10.
Don't underestimate bad RNG in Heroic fights. You can have the perfect deck to counter a fight and not draw into the cards you need at the right time and still lose. If Alexstraza is in the last 5 cards in your deck you'll have a hard time, for instance.
I tried 4x, then switched to a Priest deck and beat Heroic Heigan 1st try. I just couldn't keep Heigan off me w/ this deck.
I one-shotted Noth twice in a row using Freeze mage completely without minions (except for 2). I figured why let Noth turn your novice engineers into 5/5s... seemed pointless.
So, the only minions I used were Alexstrasa (of course) and bloodmage thalnos. Otherwise it was entirely spells. Very very easy heroic boss.
If we ignore Doomsayer cause he's more like a removal spell and ignore Alexstraza, since she's your win condition, then the rest of the minions are all for card draw. If you get the cards you need then you won't feel the need to use them. If you do NOT get what you need, it's a trade off to put 1 or 2 more 5/5 on the table to flamestrike or Doomsayer off just to get the draws you need (like that Alexstraza you desperately need for your combo).
If you can win with the deck without using minions, that's perfect, but not every attempt is going to go that way. My winning attempt certainly didn't cause I only drew Alex late off of one of my card draws.
Yeah Alex is kinda what the deck revolves around, it's not much use if you don't have her to set up the combo, not with 45 health on bosses.
She's a good investment though if you don't have her. I assume there's going to be more Naxx bosses she'll work well against and she's a good card for Control Warrior and Handlock decks in normal play as well (outside of this Freeze deck you can use for normal play as well with minor tweaks).
