Overload Amount Confusion
Apparently a number of localizations outside of English show the card with (1) Overload, but this seems to not be the case.
It is Overload: (2).

Apologies for the confusion, we let the localization team know!

If I were to guess the rest will be in the big drop at the end.
Weird. I thought they had stopped with the big dump at the end with the last expansion.
So a 7 mana Ragnaros if you hero power. Actually worse than that because of the overload. It is 9 mana Ragnaras with hero power.
The two unrevealed Epics better be something special then...
Yeah except you're missing the point. You're not supposed to play this on turn 9 but on turn 5 or even 4 with coin for a huge tempo swing
bruh
wat
yes.. what you said is true. if you play it the worst possible way the card can be played.
You have no idea what the point even is. You still need a target fodder to turn it into Ragnaros. Hero Power is always available. whether you spend 2 mana turn 4, or 2 mana turn 7 it is still 2 mana spent towards using this card.
So you need to spend 2 mana on a totem (Hero Power), 5 mana to use this card and then get locked out of 2 mana (overload) a turn later. 2 + 5 + 2 = 9 mana spent on this card alone. Of course other things will be happening in the match but baseline in a vacuum you are using 9 mana to summon Ragnaros.
Lets try to find something similar to this card. We had Muckmorpher and you could coin it out turn 4 to get Ragnaros or Alakir or any big thing early. Was it dominating back then when it was Standard? hardly.
So, I hope the Epic cards does something substantial into supporting this Overload archetype otherwise nothing is going to push this card into playability. The Core Set Rotation won't do it alone.
I remember some time ago there was a creature for 4 mana 7/7 overload 2. And noone said "Hey, 6 mana 7/7 - trash".
You keep going for the worst case and even call it "in a vacuum". No, the worst possible scenario is not in a vacuum. Shamans just have minions on board on turn 5. And decks with that will have 1 and 2 drops (battlecries or deathrattles).
Muckmorpher required serious deck-building sacrifices, this requires none. Also 4/4 rag and 8/8 rag are quite different.
What is this "worse scenario" you are talking about???????? You NEED to spend mana on a minion before you can use it. you CANT use this unless there is ONE MINION on board. Spending mana on minions before turn 5 is WORST CASE SCENARIO now? wtf?
In a vacuum you are spending 9 mana on this card. No This isn't WORST CASE SCENARIO. This is BASELINE. You can't call baseline WORST CASE SCENARIO.
The point I think that's being missed is that if you spend mana on a minion on a previous turn, then you have likely gotten value out of it that goes beyond simply being target fodder for future transformation, so it seems uncharitable and perhaps inaccurate to assume that one spending 9 effective mana on a single ragnoros is the card's baseline usage. Using it on a totem seems like a bad play and last resort to be used when there is no better way.
Seems like a decent card against control just for applying face damage pressure, but in every other situation I think this is bad. Though I'm expecting there to be more overload synergies coming up so we'll see.
I think hearthpwn is at fault, why this has blurry image. Blizzard send this card reveal via mail to everyone, and on the mail the image is ok, not that blurry as it is on heartpwn.

Polish version says the same. 1 Overload.
Devs spoke out, it's a localization issue and the card is indeed Overload (2)

Does this mean Ragnaros is coming to Standard? If so, then that is some GOOD NEWS, INSECTS!
Looks quite underwhelming.
You need to already have a board and Ragnaros' shoots are totally random.
If we had a way to make 2 or even 3 Ragnaros at once it would be good but just one looks pretty meh unless the opponent has no board.
Jazz Bass -> Criminal Lineup
In all seriousness, I kinda feel the same. You know you could always say the same about the original ragnaros, but that didn't stop it being the consistently best 8 drop in standard for years on end. But decks are so much more explosive these days. It's impossible to predict what they're gonna do after rotation, but against boon priest or rogue the rag wouldn't even kill their biggest dude.
Carving Chisel is the ultimate easy token source, but it interferes with jazz base. Inzah makes Novice Zapper 0 mana so you could use that. I think the one minion's gonna be a low bar for whatever deck wants to do this.
You could set up with Pelican Diver or any of the one turn dormants.
That's odd, I just received the Spanish newsletter, and it says that is just 1 overload.
