there is this huge selection of scrappy decks that are constructed without legendaries and work well. those decks don't use legendaries because someone made a choice not to use them. I GUARANTEE you those decks exist.
All the things you listed are counters, not threats to win the game. You could have tons of removal at your disposal and you could still end up losing the game because you have no threats on the board. The opponent can just easily pressure you with medium minions forcing you to use removal on them and once they are gone, bam Rag, Alex, Baron, Ysera suddenly come out of nowhere and end the game easily. Some Legendary like Rag can put both threats and removal at the same time.
This is a good point that the premium big manna finishers come out of legendaries. You are also correct that cards such as rag, ysera, and alex are double threats in that they have an immediate effect and then a continuing threat. In a control style deck (or ramp deck) these are typically staple cards. The one thing is to look at the number of flavor of the week decks that aren't running these. Zoo is half the time legend free. Aggro hunter usually is with leeroy, but the more popular (and better?) midrange hunter control decks are legend free. Aggro warrior is legend free, and I'm not sure about typical tempo rogue decks but I'm pretty sure they could be. I guess it all comes down to style, is your deck going to take control faster and drop fire elly or scar as its threats? or is it going to take control slower and use rag? One thing to look at is six drops, ogre, fire elemental, scar (shadow priest? ok NM) those are all free faster and good. Those will be getting polyed hexed and facelessed too. You are right that when it comes to late game, war golem sucks. I guess my point is if you don't have legendaries don't try to play control warrior, but there are a lot of other decks to play!
Why is $35 scoffed at by you for electronic pictures battling other electronic pictures?
Didn't you just describe any video game that costs $35? I mean the term "video game" itself evokes electronic pictures. As for the amount of work that they put into the game it looks a hell of a lot better than MTG online. They've added some very creative elements that are unique from paper card games so they have realized the potential of their medium. I think they've done a good job.
After Trump and Reynad have both run free to play decks up to legendary you can honestly not say that this is P2W. If you are getting legend envy... treat yourself and put some money in. Or just realize that it's not the size of your collection but how you use it.............. ........

Hex, Mind control, Polymorph, Assassinate... The list goes on and on, and Blizzard gave all of those to you for free. Did you thank them?
