I think being good as an internal feeling of no shame is an illusion, some experiments have shown that some people commit more bad things when they know there will not be any consequence to their action or they are anonymous.
This is very true. Human nature is a very complicated thing and I'm glad this thread is back because it's interesting to analyze.
I really put thought into my answer and said neutral good. I am not special and have no particular convictions, but I am nice to people/things.
But if I woke up tomorrow with superpowers, I am definitely going to start doing evil things. There is a deep hate inside that boils up sometimes. I think to some degree, this is normal for people. But without any way to act on it, it's just easier to ignore it and be "good".
So what does that really make me?
People being good just because of consequences is a misconception i myself had for the majority of my life. The data however and my experiences once i became more open minded show me otherwise. There were a couple of researches i read years ago on the subject. The one i remember more clearly was about people shooting with paintball gun a person on the back on a room with no monitoring. The subjects knew that they would not be monitored. What they didn't know however, is that the paintballs were counted and when the test was concluded, the researchers knew how many had actually shot the dude (+the dude could count how many shot him but not who). After about 2000 participants (if i recall correctly) about only 5% had shot the dude. Similar tests showed pretty much the same.
What was more fascinating is that most people not only avoid being "evil" but they were anxious about being good. They were really contemplating about their actions and moral standing. On the contrary people who were certain about their actions and morality had serious sociopathic and narcissistic tendencies. That's why fundamentalists had nearly double the chances of being one of the two.
Long story short, you are propably a good guy, so congrats!
Talking about good, I used to be such a pure soul when I was a kid, I was borderline ridiculous... XD Yeah, I know, that's something strange and weird to say, but it's the truth, I still can't believe the thoughts I used to have, always worried about everything and everyone (including all type of life forms). :P That's why I still believe in good people (and the fact I actually know many of them)! ;)
Never forget we are all the same, my dear friend... The same shit! (Just kidding... XD)
The thing is my dear friend that being pure or kindhearted doesn't make you good. You can be both and still commit uspeakable acts under specific circumstances and being brainwashed. Let me use 2 examples
1.Some centuries ago India had a terrible problem with snake infestations. So they decided to reward everyone who killed a snake and brought its corpse as proof. Then the majority of the population started raising snakes instead of killing the existing ones. When the law was retracted, the population of snakes was nearly doubled instead of decreased.
2. This will be a bit political so i put in spoiler. Read it at your own peril
The pro life groups. Sure abortion is something very upleasant for the mother and an outright murder of the fetus. But what is the alternative?Forcing mother to give birth?Bringing children to this world only to be abandoned? And most importantly abortions won't stop. They will be done secretly in unfitting places without the woman receiving the professional help she deserves and needs. It will lead with mathematical certainty to far greater problems and issues. Yet after many conversations with these people, i have seen that they have conviced themselves that are just and good.
Long story short, the way to hell is paved with good intentions and there is nothing more terrifying that a man who is certain that he is good.
I fully agree with the last sentence. I just started this thread for fun, that's all. The thing is, everything is relative in the end. Good and evil are just human concepts and our brains only sense and understand what they are capable of, which means the reality we see is extremely limited. That's very hard to accept for some people, but I don't care. XD
I know bro, sometimes i just post serious answers so i can read them myself and appreciate my glorious intelligence and wisdom.

Well if have to answer honestly, it's chaotic neutral. I have a few personal rules that i never break but i dont mind "bending" the rest to my favour.
I also do not consider my self good because i really think that very few things are. Evil in its most forms is easy to identify. Does someone or something causes harm for self benefit or for the sake of it?Boom its evil.Easy. Good on the other side....is ambiguous. So many times something or someone with good intentions has caused terrible suffering. So i do not consider my self good but i do not consider it evil either. As a result by the process of elimination i am neutral.
