I honestly think there's only one real problem with Hearthstone.
3 expansions per year is just too few. To me, the game would be more fun if we had content released more often.
I'm fine with the cost. I have no problem with $150/year as my expenditure for my hobby. I like that that amount doesnt buy me every card and I can still feel the progress of earning cards while also giving me the ability to play just about any deck that I want. Worst case scenario I have to wait 2-3 weeks to craft a legendary before I can try a deck. Big deal. Its a challenge to complete the set. I like that.
I like the meta. I mean.... just yesterday I had a game where the game-changing play came down to the very shrewd move of my opponent to pick Lorewalker Cho off of his Marin's treasure that gave the "Pick a Legendary, Summon 2 of it" card. It gave him the resources to ping me with his hero power. I had the resources to deal with 2 big beefy minions. I had the resources to outlast his burn in fatigue. And he won because he picked a 2-mana meme. How much fuckin fun is that? And I'm not being facetious. There is such an emphasis on winning card advantage that Lorewalker Cho was the right pick. As much as I hate playing against it, I absolutely love that Razakus Priest is so powerful. I'm blown away that this is our meta. They're doing an incredible job with card design.
I dont really care for Tavern Brawl. It's usually a one and done for me. But once every 5-6 weeks there's one that draws me in and I have a ton of fun with. I've got 50 or 60 wins in a few Tavern Brawls. Over 100 in one or two of them. Even the ones that I dont find super fun, like this week's feed the void, show some interesting creativity in game-design. Its worth a play or three just to rethink deck design based on something wacky. For something so experimental, I'm really happy with Tavern Brawl as a true casual mode.
But everyone goes fuckin stir crazy for the last month of every expansion. Its just too damn long. I'm not a huge fan of monthly minor card releases like Gwent but 4 months between cards is bonkers. I got a lil sick of the minor changes of adventures but at least it was only 3 months between releases then.
