Just curious what order the beta keys are handed out, my brother got his about a month ago and i'm yet to receive mine.
Main differences between the accounts, I created mine at the WoW Lich King expansion, whereas his was pre Burning Crusade (about 2.5 years difference). I've bought Starcraft 2, He hasn't. We both have D3.
If there is a priority list i agree you would want to give them to members with older accounts, however i have an extra game. Bit disappointed to not have one yet, Having had a battle.net account for 5 years and bought all the games.
Sorry i must not have done enough digging thru threads to see, was just curious.
Would be nice to have atleast half of the keys they send out to have a priority, just to reward the people who have bought all their games and been playing for a long time.
Not saying they should change the amount of invites they send out. For example if they have 50 invites they want to send out, send 25 to the priority list, and randomise the other 25.
Result: 50% would cry, because they think they should have more priority than those having one. 50% would cry, because they think they should have more priority than those selected randomly.
So it makes no difference, if you prioritize a fraction or not. If you prioritize solely by "money spent" ... the enrage would still be the same. It was already (though small one) an enrage, because some streamers had priority.
No matter how you pull it, Blizzard did the right thing, by prioritizing only a very small number for pure marketing reasons, and inviting the rest at random. What they did wrong, was giving out keys instead of flags and having people getting several keys. I got 3 from Blizzard on the same account for example, plus one before those from a giveaway. Made some friends happy with that, but still there is no reason to hand out multiples to the same person.

I got a lot of beta keys on my accounts ( yes plural), but also on sweepstakes, which of course i kept one for myself and gave away the rest to friends and family ( Hence the name of blizzard's beta )
Thing is though, if you do get a beta key what do you do with it ? Do you just use it to play a game "earlier" than the rest ? Or do you really use it as intended ?
What do i mean ? The reason behind having beta, is for people to test your product, in ways that your designers, coders and engineers would never think of. A gamer's mind is way above and beyond than that of anyone designing a game, and you can see that easily : The amount of exploits and "taking advantage of game mechanics" that we found in so many of Blizzard's games.
Then, who would get a priority access ? People think that they are entitled to beta because they played WoW since The Burning Crusade ? How about the rest of us, who played WoW from Vanilla, or Warcraft in general from Orcs vs Humans ? I mean, there are things that you cannot compare, and creating lists would just piss almost all of the people off.
But i do believe, that Blizzard, sends out some keys to people that they know they are helping with Beta. And then they send all the random keys out to test server load and capacity, and of course, observing how the game flows.
People with keys do both. Without knowing it, simply playing the game DOES help test it. You can also do extra to help blizzard, such as report any bug you might find and give your input on the balance.
As for "sends out some keys to people they know are helping with the Beta," I don't know what that would even mean. In order to "help with the beta" you'd have to be in the beta already. However, they have handed out keys to specific people. They gave keys to streamers to help popularize the game, and it really worked.
