One of my latest arena runs had me playing Warrior facing Mage. It didn't look well until Turn 9, when I could play Gorehowl + Bloodsail Raider . That turned around the game, as the opponent had no removal left.
I'd also like to agree to T0lbert. Take your time to study your deck and decide on a general plan. It pays off.
Yolohowl is a very good card in arena. Late game it wins the game by itself if you have the hp/armor.
Thanks but that hardly helped.I just went 3-3 after farming gold the whole day, there's no word to describe how frustrated I am. What I'm supposed to do now, farm again for another 6 hours and hope I get 7+ wins? No thanks, what a stupid concept.
And the worst thing about it is that I don't even know what I'm doing wrong, I get destroyed by someone who just throws every card he has early game without even thinking (like Polymorphing my 3/3 taunt, how the fuck can I lose to this kind of player?) but when I do the same, I lose cause I don't have any removals for late game. Meh, starting to hate that game.
What's the average win-loss ratio for arenas? 3-3 may not be that bad when compared to everyone else, since I assume there are a lot of inexperienced players who make garbage decks and go 1-3 or 0-3.
The key, as with with everything else in life, is to practice. The more you play, the better you get (even if it's only 2 times a week). Other than actually doing arenas, the next best thing is to watch Hearthstone players on Twitch doing arenas. You can see there what a strong arena draft looks like and pick up pointers on tactics.
@MortimusBanned, DonceLTU: No problem, it's not much but this is how I improved my play. It also helped my win rate in constructed, making decks filled with high value cards.
IMHO fiery war axe and truesilver champion are one of the few cards where you honestly can have as many as you want of them
It's gotten to the point that if i get 2 war axes in my opening hand i end up keeping both of them
The rogue weapon with battlecry is also retarded. I just drafted a deck with 3 of them and repeatedly bopped jackies allday. The combo of backstab into battlecry 2 dmg into weapon attack for 2 is so strong...nothing was scary when i could do this 2 or 3 times per game.
Basically weapons are so strong because they allow you to convert your regularly passive life points (an oft overlooked resource) into active damage which results in card advantage.

Totally agree. A good weapon goes so far towards getting you some card advantage. If you are using it to attack the other hero, you're (usually) doing it wrong.

Yeah, that's a great guide, thanks! I've found this link on one of the pages you linked to in OP.
Many points are self-explanatory, obvious even. But if you don't think them through beforehand, your actual actions might be far from optimal. The first arena I played I thought that you are supposed to pick cards you want to have a chance to get as a reward for wins and try to win with this mess of a deck. I believe something of the kind was iterated upon in the earlier stages of the Forge, but I'm not sure. Needless to say, I suffered a crushing 0-3 defeat. =) The second time I tried to go for some Mage combo and looked for synergy in cards - the result was 2-3, meh. Only then I realized that you should mainly aim for picking cards that are individually strong. Was lucky enough to score 5-3 with a Priest.
I couldn't break 5 wins yesterday, I just went 12-2 this guide was just what I needed. Thanks so much writing it.
No problem. It didn't take much time, I just put the guides togheter and added a few tips of my own.
OMG, Can't believe I didn't think of making Arena style decks for Play mode. I have paid for Arena 4 times now and all I have gotten is 1/3 or 0/3, terrible =[
Hopefully that spreadsheet and the guide helps, Thanks.Arena style decks are really helpful when you don't have the gold. Glad it helped you.
Yea I am really getting frustrated with Arena...so far i've entered 4 times and had a grand total of 2 wins...absolutely pathetic. I know one of the times I played Rogue, I made major mistake with few of the card picks, but I just cannot believe some of the players i'm coming up against, they seem to have a pre-made deck with amazing cards - epics, legendaries.
The card choices I get are useless, I mean really really bad.
I hope with these tips, I can improve the situation, it cant get any worse, but then again the way my luck is going in arena, no amount of tips will change anything
I would also suggest watching Kripp/Hafu/Trump's stream. Pay especially close attention to their drafting process and in every 3 card set, see if you would have picked the same card as them.

Thanks, I realised I can only play with mage or priest in arena, and they're OP :D

Thanks for the good read! I've played only 3 arenas so far: 0-3, 2-3 and a 5-3. That info will be handy if I decide to play arena more.

Picking cards you want as a reward sounds fun actually, too bad it's not gold efficient.
Tiny mistakes are the difference between a win and a loss.

Worst. Statement. Ever.
Went 7+ multiple times while having mostly 4 mana cost minions.
If you pick bloodfen raptor over a chillwind yeti just because you don't have enough 2 cost minions you're gonna have a bad time.
I stand by my statement.
