Journey to Un’goro was a pretty fun expansion. The Dinosaur theme got me back into playing Hearthstone after I quit for a while. One thing about it I think we all can agree on is Elise the Trailblazer is one of the most fun cards to play from the set. Opening packs just feels good, so why not do it more often? I came up with a custom game in which both players have nothing but 60 Un’goro packs in their decks and use nothing but those cards. It’s kinda like when card games like Magic have draft tournaments where you make a deck out of booster packs you just open, except this time your deck is just a bunch of the packs themselves.
Set Up
Step 1- Cycle through your deck without milling cards.
At first, this sounds like you need tons of card draw, when in fact that is not the case. I’ve tried putting a bunch of card draw into these decks. But at some point you accidentally mill a card you need because you’re holding onto other important set up cards, or you reach fatigue sooner than you want. There are a couple cards that are for drawing, but I came up with a better solution. If you look here you’ll see that a chunk of the deck is 1-cost spells. This let’s Skulking Geist thin out both decks without overdrawing. If you happened to draw one of these cheap spells, just use it to keep your hand from getting too full. Priests should heal any damage dealt to heroes during this step. Both players should be at 30 health before shit hits the fan.
Step 2- Prepare the Board
Before we start filling the decks with Un’goro packs, we need to set up the board in a very certain way. Fortunately, you don’t need to wait for a whole bunch of pieces before you start doing so. Just do the following when possible.
Warlock
-Have Emperor Thaurissan discount Void Terror, Elise, Twisting Nether and Harbinger Celestia at least once.
-Play Glinda Crowskin
-Play Summoning Portal plus an Echoed one
(Make sure you have the mana to play both portals in one turn)
Play Augmented Elekk
Priest
-Seance a copy of Glinda and Summoning Portal
-Play Glinda Crowskin
-Play Summoning Portal plus an Echoed one
(Make sure you have the mana to play both portals in one turn)
Play Stoneskin Basalisk and Brann Bronzebeard
*Death Knight Hero Powers make clearing unwanted minions easier.
Step 3- Shuffle the Packs
Warlock Turn 1
-Hit Stoneskin Basalisk with Violet Illusionist
-Play Elise Trailblazer on the far right
-Play Void Terror to the right of Elise
-Play another Elise Trailblazer on the far right
-Play another Void Terror between the Elise and the current Void Terror
-Repeat the previous two steps 4 more times.
-Play Harbinger Celestia
Priest Turn 2
-Hit the Void Terror with Violet Illusionist first, THEN the Stoneskin Basalisk
-Play Benedictus 3 times
Warlock Turn 3
-Brewmaster Archbishop Benedictus
-Play Benedictus
-Twisting Nether
Step 4
Pack Opening Time!
Rules
1: Neither Player can use their Hero Power unless they change it with via a generated card (ie. Shadowform and Dinomancy).
2: Neither Player can attack face until the enemy board is clear (prevents super short games). Stealth and Dormant minions don’t count.
3: Both players must be at the same health before opening packs.
4: Optional Rule, but my favorite. You may only kill the opponent by doing something ridiculous. I mean Pyroblasting a Leper Gnome levels of ridiculous.
Death Knights —> Something to help clear unneeded minions
A huge chunk of the deck is throwaway spells. This just makes it easy to empty your hand and makes Skulking Geist thin your deck more. If you’re missing one of them, put in any spell (preferably 1-cost) that’s easy to get rid of and doesn’t affect the board. The Warlock’s hand can get especially full.
P.S. I'm trying to post as many of my creative ideas I've had for Hearthstone as possible before Hearthpwn comes to a stop. So in the next month, I have one more custom game to share as well as an ENTIRE CUSTOM EXPANSION I've been passively working on for the past year and a half. Check it out if you're interested and Thank You for taking a look at my Un'goro game!
