I've been playing around with the Jade mechanic and I think it's slow. Too slow to go all in on. So I've taken the idea around Jade and incorporated it into a Malygos finisher as well.
I've played around with the AoE and removal aspects of this and I think I've found a sweet spot. Starfire is a good removal/cycle card but playing against things like shaman, Starfall has become very crucial in certain situations. I like having one of each as I feel like I always get use out of them.
Mulligans:
You'll want to get Wild Growth/Jade Blossom early, especially if you have the coin.
Coin->Wild Growth turn 1 then Jade Blossom turn 2 gets you to 5 mana by turn 3.
Notes:
Don't be afraid to use Moonfire/Living Roots for Gadgetzan Auctioneer triggers or removal. This deck can still easily win the late game if you continue to cycle Jade Golems.
If I get Jade Idol turn 1 and I can't coin Wild Growth, I always choose 3 and send them off. However, if I get a second one that can be a 3/3 or greater in turn 4-6, I normally will create the Golem rather than continue stuffing my deck.
Edits:
I think that the power of Gadgetzan Auctioneer in this deck is very noticeable, so I've been trying to run with two by giving up the Azure Drake.
Azure Drake is nice on curve, and the spell power can definitely be useful, but as the deck is really trying to push the late game search for Jade Idol and Malygos/spells two Gadgetzan Auctioneer really gives you a lot of cycles.
Swapped out Aya Blackpaw in for one of the Feral Rage.
I had the same idea when I noticed that regular jade druid was missing a solid finisher. I think this deck benefits more from generating board presence rather than having spell removals, with the exception of the cheap and powerful swipe and wrath, so most of the heavy spells like starfire and starfall are unnecessary. Also, as it's already been said, the arcane giants kinda mess with the tempo of having big auctioneer turns, even when it's a 0 mana 8/8 (wayyyy better to throw down an 8/8 jade golem AND get to draw). I've tossed in a single mulch and defender of argus to deal with must remove threats (7 10/10+ on the board is meaningless when you're looking at a 2 turn antonidas) I've also cut one nourish for a second auctioneer. This card really shines in this deck and having two of them lets you use one for a turn 5-8 hand refill while saving the second to flood the board with jade golems when you hit the bottom of your deck, or if it lives, miracle a maly lethal. I've also cut 1 living roots for a raven idol. The flexability is too good and with the inconsistency I've seen with thaurissan you can often be 1 mana off lethal with malygos.
Cool deck. Couple thoughts I've had while looking at the decklist.
Arcane Giant A lot of people have cut this card, and I can say I'm in a similar camp. At one point, you will be generating significant board presence through a combination of Jade Idol and Jade Behemoth. It takes up two card slots in the deck that can be used for much more versatile options, possibly the second Feral Rage
Adding back in at least one Raven Idol is also something of a consideration. Such a versatile card that allows for healing in more aggressive matchups and more burst against control/Reno.
Starfire is cool sometimes, but it costs six mana. In most cases, I don't see it removing any significant board tension. Yes, you do draw, but you basically never develop anything in the same turn. I just can't see such a slow deck like this benefiting from such expensive single target removal.
Gadgetzan Auctioneer is definitely crucial to the deck, but is it a two of? I tend to think that the one copy would suffice. In most cases, you'll be able to draw with Wrath and Nourish. You really only need one turn to create the board that will kill your opponent, and so it seems like only one Auctioneer is needed in that case. Moreso, this deck is ridiculously weak to aggro, and I would rather have more defensive options/flexible removal for those matchups. Take Emperor Thaurissan for example. He's usually quite fine to play on turn 6, while a lone Auctioneer is not the same case at all. I think the one of is fine here.
Good luck with your deckbuilding and have a great season.
Hey, interested in trying this out. What rank have you gained with this one?
I've ran two 5-10 game win streaks, but haven't played enough to climb too high (currently 15). The current version with Aya has done the best, and I'm iterating on this as I go. I really made this deck to get this idea out there, so if you're going to let my personal rank stop you from trying the deck that's fine.
I'm hoping some other people try it and are able to put input in as to any modifications they would make.
This being said, I do this this can be a deck that works. The Jade Idol Druid is not really a midrange type deck as it really excels late game. This version just takes that and ramps it up a notch with a way to pump out a lot of damage immediately in the late game.
