Lord Marrowgar Boss Guide - The Lower Citadel
The first boss of the Lower Citadel you'll encounter is Lord Marrowgar, the Gatekeeper.
Fight Details
This fight will require that you kill Lord Marrowgar in one swift hit to the face due to his Hero Power, Skeletal Reconstruction, fully healing himself at the end of his turn. To accomplish this, we're going to need a One Turn Kill style deck which will require some setup, or a way to steal some of his overpowered cards.
One fun and easy way to deal with this is the old-school Divine Spirit + Inner Fire combo on top of a stolen Bone Spike. You don't even need to get it crazy high, just doubling its health once (to 16) is enough since at the start of your turn you'll hit Marrowgar for 15 automatically followed by 16 for the kill.
Special Notes
- Mindbreaker does not work on this fight.
Watch Out for These Cards
- Bone Spike - This needs to be removed immediately. Stealing it is also an option.. an incredibly rude one at that.
- Bone Storm - Good luck with super aggro decks, a couple of these and your board is wiped out. The card draw for him sucks too.
- Bryn'troll, the Bone Arbiter - Having some form of weapon removal is a very good idea. This can deal a total of 18 damage over 3 turns.
- Skeletal Knight - Killing this could give you a fun way to swing things into your favor.
Rewards
Unlike previous adventures, this boss does not reward you with a new card. Instead, you will receive a Frozen Throne card pack upon completion of the Lower Citadel wing.

So playing as a priest, Marrowgar got an Auchenai Soulpriest from his Undercity Huckster, Played it and then used his hero power, Instakilling himself, i won and i was totally losing that game :) He also had some fun little dialogue when he pulled it "Now i have your soulpriest, Hah, Wait, no, Get it away from me"
Stole a Bone Spike with Cabal Shadow Priest, then turn after I threw Divine Spirit and Inner Fire on it for a clean kill.
Mirage Caller :)
Super fun losing 20 times in a row. No way around his sludge belchers.
I milled him as Rogue. I thought a Priest OTK deck would be easiest but since I noticed he had a lot of draw I wanted to try milling him. It was fun!
yeah mill is super good against most bosses in solo adventures, because they don't know how to play around doomsayer, will always be willing to draw, and don't have a good conception of what to play after vanish. But this boss was not strong on board control compared to others I have seen and he seems to have a turn where he just bonestorms until he has no more in hand or no mana left, and he was at ten cards when he did that for me, so I literally just milled him for all his most powerful cards.
I beat this with my own version freeze shaman, Moorabi was the MVP ...
My grinder Shaman (Jades, Taunts and lots of Healing) did the job 3rd try. First time I screwed myself by having a full board that could only deal 25/turn and couldn't make space because he was out of cards. I was sure I had a Bloodlust in the deck.
Jades certainly seem to be a good answer.
Easily beat that from the first attempt with my exodia quest mage.
I beat him out of pure luck with my control warrior. My Sneed gave me Troggzor and the boss casted 6 spells in a row, preparing for his own demise.
Beat him with a slightly tweaked Lyra miracle priest that I had knocking around from laddering last month, with just a few new cards added. Key cards were a pair of Shadow Ascendants - got them both out on turn four and they stuck for the whole game, feeding each other and building a viable board.
I was lucky to get both Priests of the Feast out, and Pained the first Bonespike - the second came too late to help him. Won it almost entirely with board damage, plus two points from a Soulpriested hero power and a single point of the eight from Rag - courtesy of Lyra giving me a Free From Amber.
Yes I was lucky with draw, but the takeaway from it was that Shadow Ascendant has the potential to be very scary indeed if not removed efficiently and quickly.
I have used a simple and cheap Priest OTK. Just make sure you Cabal the Bone Spike.
Another easter egg - play the Lich King on the board while fighting this boss. Totally unexpected!
Mill Rogue was the obvious choice.
But, do you even mill bro?
Jade Druid
While playing against him as a priest, he got an auchenai soulpriest from undercity huckster and killed himself (even had a voice line to go with it)
I won because of auchenai soulpriest. Its really funny tho
