I wouldn't say its the worst meta. It might be the toughest meta though.
This, it's a tough meta because it's one of the most balanced. It's tilting though if you think you should just do better because. The reality is that there are more competitive decks then ever and all can ladder.
More competitive decks means lower wr overall. Simple math here.
Quote from TazdingoFTW>>> That doesn't change the way matj works though. If this game was entirely based on RNG, you wouldn't lose this many ranks. Over a longer period of time, you'd just be stuck at rank 5 because an approximate winrate of 50% actually lets you climb slowly until that exact rank. The way you described it, it sounds more like you played a good meta deck first, then switched to some bad own ceation.
I can agree with everything OP describes. I too came back to the game after a long break, because recent metas were toxic.
I too went from rank 24 to rank 8 in 3 days. Now I'm rank 12. All I am facing are aggro shaman, aggro warrior, and decks designed to deal with those two. I haven't seen a single hunter or paladin yet - not a single one.
I am most certainly not spending money on this game! And I cannot grind 24/7. I do not have dust, I do not have gold, and I do not have all the perfect cards for my decks.
I haven't played HS for like 16 months, comes back, goes from rank 25 to 7 in like 4 days, and now in the past 3 days I've gone from rank 7 to 15, legit losing everything in the world. I've been legend every season I've played.
This one is basically have the best starting hand and a little bit of luck and you win. GG. Literally no skill in this game anymore with all the new cards
this meta is extremely boring no matter how you look at it. you have 2 decks you can play. decks that kill you before they enemy gets reno, and decks that hope to god they draw reno before they die in 7 turns. if i wanted to play a game of boring luck id go play poker. shadowverse and duelyst are about to overtake hearthstone if the next expansion is complete trash

Stop playing.
Not that the previous meta were better for you. The chance that you would face Rogue/Priest/Paladin back then would even be slimmer than the chance you would face Paladin/Hunter now.
In previous metas, you could pick decks to outplay other decks without having to topdeck. These days, you simply do not beat for example pirate warrior if you don't have a golden hand
i really dont understand that salt everywhere. name a meta with more competetive decks than now. priest (dragon, reno), mage (reno), lock (reno), rogoue (miracle, sometimes pirate), shaman (aggro, control), druid (jade), warrior (taunt, pirate) and to some extent even murloc-pally, are all capable reaching rank 5 if you optimize and tech according to your daily matchups... i cant remember any meta more balanced than this one!
edit: so almost 2 playable decks per class! poor hunter tho...
I feel like people underestimate the huge impact taking a break from Hearthstone is. As it stands Hearthstone really isn't the most generous of games, it requires a lot of money or a lot of time to even remain close to competitive, taking anything more than a few weeks break is a lot of time not keeping up to date with your collection, especially when the average power level of decks is increasing and that's not even including the times important cards get rotated out.
i spend less than 10€/month and i still have all the cards and dust i want, without playing more than 5h per week...
edit: and yes, i realize coming back after more than 1 year is not easy, but please open your eyes and realize, that there is a whole playmode called wild, that allows you to play your old collection just spiced up with a few newer cards here and there. if you think you can compete in standard without a certain amount of loe, tgt, wotg, kara and msg cards you are missing the point of the format.
@Flegit; if you want to pick decks to outplay other decks then you're certainly able to do so. Dragon Priest, Midrange Shaman, Reno Mage all feel extremely flexible right now in being able to handle (almost) all of the field; I guess I'd have to know which meta you're referring to, but this current meta (at least to me) doesn't seem any more lopsided than past metas for a lot of the top decks.
There's still room to outplay, and room to adjust lists to make them better across the field. It's pretty much a given at this point that if you can't beat the current Aggro Shaman or Pirate Warrior lists you're either running into issues with luck/lines of play/deck build. This game has also gotten a lot more competitive than 16 months ago, so that might very well be a factor.

This is simply not true. Needing a "golden hand" to beat a deck implies that it is overpowered, which it certainly is not.
As confirmed by the devs, this is one of the most balanced metas ever, which makes it much harder to advance. When a meta is wildly imbalanced, ranking up is much easier if you can adapt. Play the unbalanced deck at the opportune moment (before too many play heavy counters), and switch to a heavy counter deck when lots of people start player said unbalanced deck.
When all decks perform roughly equally well, it all comes down to skill and luck, and less about countering certain decks, since the diversity is so high.
I am also a multiple legend player who struggled more this season than usually. However, since I realize why, I am not as salty as the OP ;)
If you hate this meta/game just stop playing and go play another game that you will enjoy... why spend time on something you are not enjoying? That's not what life is about ;)
As there is no OP Deck it should genereally be harder for some players to reach Legend. Overall the meta is very healthy and only the true Legends with lots of time will reach top, as skill and luck have huge impact (How often u play against counters/How good u actually are). For me the next set can wait a while before it gets released. But there will always be someone complaining :C
sorry, but neither does playing aggro warrior nor aggro shaman take skill. Maybe you commented on the wrong game in the wrong forum. The meta is healthy, when it comes down to the diversity of class having top decks. But do these decks take skill to pilote can an ape hit legend with them? Definetly the second one in my eyes.
i probably should run pirate warrior and have my dog sit on my keyboard while I go take myself for a walk, I'd probably hit legend before I'm back! There is literally no fucking skill in that shit. Drop anything from your hand that you have enough mana for, and you win in the long run, because no-one can outskill your arcanite ripper topdeck after several 5 damage charge topdecks. Of course there is always a mortal strike in hand aswell!
I hate it too, but I like it at the same time because Reno Mage, Reno Warlock, Dragon Priest and Control Shaman are actually viable and they are all fun to play so..its definitely better than previous one.

I agree. And I actually play these 3 highlighted. However, you think you're gonna have fun, but then you queue for ranked and you run into a lavaburst only ez game shaman or cancer pirate warrior, and you stand no chance if you don't have the literally PERFECT hand from the beginning.
I'm getting tired of Reno, even though he's in game for quite a bit, combined with Kazzakus providing extra board clear and tempo swing it's really tough to make a viable midrange minion based deck (aka entire grimy goon archetype)

First, your losing streak =/= worst meta
Second, Undertaker meta, Secret Paladin meta, Patron Warrior meta, MR Shaman (pre-MSG) meta, and Face Hunter meta disagree with you.
