posted a message on Could KFT be the death of aggro?

I do think that with the Lifelink mechanic we're potentially going to see a lot slower of a game (keep in mind, we have seen metas slow down considerably after a set release if you look at Old Gods and Kara), though it's important to realize this doesn't mean Aggro is dead or has to die. Odds are the most that will happen is that Aggro becomes either slower, like Zoo, or survives on the fringe like Pirate Warrior has done in the past.

Right now it's pretty much impossible to tell because other than the Priest spell there's not a lot of indicators of what anti-Aggro tools we're getting.

@DiamondDM13; eh, I don't think comparisons between classes are ever very effective. Look at Recycle/Siphon Soul/Entomb for 6-mana removal that were all at different levels of power for the mana cost. It's arguable that it's actually correct to have Paladin have the stronger buffs between the two since its board is basically its removal, unlike Priests who have a stable of AoE and spell-based single target.

In the context of Paladin I don't think it's OP, but god is it messy to deal with.

Yeah but even in the Priest class we see a comparison that is very unfavourable. All classes have different benefits, that is correct. Even still, I'm not sure I would find +2/+6 + Taunt for 2 Mana to be very fair. Which is what I get removing the Deathrattle... Still seems like ridiculous value for the Mana. Then again, Hunter has Savannah Highmane.
I'd concede that Velen's is probably better than Tentacles in a vacuum, but I think people overstate by how much; Priest generally just has more exciting things to do at 5 mana than at 3 (or at least used to, since it's gained more options since Tentacles was initially evaluated). And for Priest, the 2 health is a bigger deal than it is for most classes.
Steed is indeed ridiculous value for the mana, I don't think anyone is going to argue otherwise. 4/12 stats broken over two bodies, both with taunt, for 6 mana is nuts! But Paladin has been seemingly manageable so I'm not really concerned (yet). I'd be worried we end up with Call of the Wild all over again.

@FortyDust; I think HoF rotation is probably better, tbh. Which I'm mostly okay with, though I think I'd rather see Pyroblast (or some other burn) rotate first if the goal is really still to target Freeze Mage. Then they could continue printing things to interact with secrets and call it a day. Alternatively they could also just rotate Alexstraza.

Fair warning, I'm a huge fan of keeping Ice Block mainly because janky Control builds of Mage are really the only ones I've ever liked. Depending on what they do for healing it might not be as big of a deal to me when rotation hits next year.

    "The meta will slow down"

Kind of depends on how many Lifelink dudes we get (I do actually think they have a chance of slowing things down a bit), but this one is a classic.
Also there's the other classic "<insert revealed card> is bad because it doesn't fit in any decks right now".

Mildly surprised at a lack of mention of Spikeridged Steed, since it's kind of amazingly nuts. Definitely not an OP card, just one that makes me groan every time I have to figure out how to get through it.

    Quote from craigrs84 >>

Finally Blizzard nerfed it.  But why does Blizzard move so slowly to make an adjustment like this?

The game could be so much better if Blizzard was a little more proactive.

It's been covered to death by other people, but for the most part a faster response to cards isn't without its own problems. STB and Caverns were both around the 3 month mark because they wanted time to let the meta settle, for people to have a chance to properly counter the deck to assess its actual impact on the meta, and (I'd assume) to consider and test potential nerfs to the cards. Keep in mind they're also looking at it with knowledge of what the final design for the next 1 or 2 sets looks like, so they have an idea (and can playtest) to verify if future decks or cards would allow players to properly respond or not. I believe this is relatively typical for card games in general, so it's not necessarily Blizzard dropping the ball.
I do agree Blizzard should probably look into being a little more proactive (maybe 2 months to nerf instead of 3, at the halfway point for an expansion), but we're likely never going to have something like monthly patches and some kind of constantly churning balancing act like they do in something like Overwatch or League of Legends. The majority of balance is likely to always come in the form of yearly rotations, new sets of cards, and finally nerfs to one or two cards in a set that are performing in a way that wasn't intended.

posted a message on What is the one thing that you like and dislike the most about the Hearthstone community?

For the most part the thing that drives me the most nuts with the community is how often people will make flawed arguments for the sake of not being wrong on a certain topic. I know there's a thread floating around regarding the always-popular theory that Blizzard is skewing ladder games for the sake of keeping people as close to a 50% winrate as possible... and it's kind of just insane to see how people are really coming to that conclusion.

That being said, the community is also full of people who don't generally fall into that trap and I love it. Even if you don't agree with them you can still at least discuss things rationally, and when it comes to stuff where opinions are split pretty heavily I think it helps emphasize both sides of the argument; I'd like to think this also helps when it comes to feedback for Blizzard, but I don't really know if they're perusing Hearthpwn as much as something like Reddit.

While I'm inclined to pick Kolento because he's one of my favorite players, I went with Muzzy since he's legitimately just been one of the best NA players for the last year or so and he just destroyed the qualifier to get here. I'd love to see him take 1st!

Unfortunately now that I've voted for him it seems unlikely.

This is a timid or soft nerf at best.

It's really not, short of somehow drawing the nuts and having a smooth string of 4 bounces or getting your Igneous Elementals played/killed extremely quickly and nabbing a Fire Fly. Which means it's not completely dead certainly, but I believe Quest Rogue is going to have a hard time ignoring boardstates for an extra 2-3 turns... which means at the very least the current playstyle is probably dead. It's definitely not a timid nerf, this is the same game where adjusting blatantly problematic cards by 1 mana is enough to kill them.
I think we'll still see Quest Rogue, but the lists will have to change and it's a lot more susceptible to something like Dirty Rat or Hex/Polymorph interrupting the bounce chain options.

Nah, best to keep it open for the inevitable return of Quest Rogue in a slow meta and people realizing that it's still a deck that's going to be happy to punish slower lists.
I agree, but at least the clock will be extended for an extra turn or two. That's going to be enough for anything that isn't super greedy.
I totally agree with that! Which in all honesty is all I really wanted it to be adjusted to accomodate; if you're fighting a Quest Rogue as a slower list you still have to start punching them in the face and trying to end the game, but you have enough breathing room with it slowing down that you don't have to get a crazy draw to have an okay shot at winning. So the Hearthpwn posters who don't seem to comprehend the concept of being too greedy will still complain, but I think in general people running reasonable lists will be in a better spot; I genuinely think if we see the matchup end up at 60/40 instead of 70/30 then we can call it a solid change.
Partially I'm also hoping that making the quest harder to complete is going to up the skill floor a little on the deck, but that's the vain Rogue player in me speaking. I think the Quest Rogue power level is honestly fine if it takes a bit more finesse to pilot.

Thank god. Should have been nerfed long time before, but atleast they are nerfing it.

This is reasonably fast, compared to even worse metas (Undertaker, Mysterious Challenger, Patron Warrior).

I'm just glad they're doing it, even though I think they're being slightly dishonest about the reasons. I hope they realize it's just a bad, unfun card, and that the actual performance of the deck is only a secondary concern.
I know people are up in arms about this taking 3 months, but for the most part I'm fine with that timing for the most part; similar to STB, players had time to react and build counters and Team 5 had time (I assume) to test adjustments with a refined meta in mind. It's possible it could have been a month earlier, but if each expansion is capped off with fixing "problem" cards that seems like an okay plan going forward.
I don't think they're necessarily being dishonest by not addressing the unfun portion of the card, because I think it's really just too polarized of a field of opinions; I'm actually someone who thinks it's a really sweet card and that it's genuinely a good deck to have for Rogue players, but others obviously feel basically the complete opposite from that. What everyone can agree on is probably how awful it tends to feel as even a mildly slow deck against it, which I do think this change should help; depending on how much slower this makes it, if you're at least trying to beat them down you have a little bit better of a chance than 30% I'd imagine.

For everyone on the "LOL LIFECOACH CRAWLING BACK TO HEARTHSTONE" train, even when he quit he made it pretty clear that he still really liked and Hearthstone and would be happy to play or host tournaments. I highly doubt this is signaling a switch back, and more that this is the sort of setting he's happy to be a part of.

posted a message on No more duplicate Legendaries starting with the next expansion!!!

@AbusingKel; I'm kind of surprised myself they didn't release this at least in a patch or something to test it (like if it goes wrong at least it's only impacting an expansion that's had all the hype die down), but maybe they felt internally that it was easier to implement in the same patch as the new expansion since I think major patches are still giant 2GB blobs you have download/install. I'm really, really hoping they get the system they had alluded to earlier in place soon so that they can just stream updates for stuff like this.

But yeah, for everyone buying packs it's just going to be better to hold onto them unless you really need the cards.
