I was so happy that a lot of issues in the current meta are being answered (Thrall is getting some love). Then I stumbled upon this card, saying that "Hey, isn't this card arguably better than Yeti, because it has Taunt?". Then I remembered Booty Bay Bodyguard exists, and then it hit me: Blizzard has failed me. I was a champion back then that Hearthstone's power level has been in check, then this came along. Really disappointed. :(
sheesh. get out the pitchforks? we are talking about vanilla minions that no one uses as they felt overcosted/not worth it, and Blizzard has data showing that is indeed true after the game has been played for a while. This is a recognition that 5/1 for 3 and 5/4 taunt for 5 were not set at the right stat level of value, or they were at best fine for the time, but the game and environment have changed so lets show the top of whats acceptable more rather than the bottom now that game balance is better understood. if we had half mana, maybe a 5/4 taunt should REALLY cost 4.5 mana? big deal. this sort of card analog stuff is going to happen to a successful expandable game over time. Designers learn things and make improvements, thats why. not greed or laziness. /sigh.
There are lots of newish stat distributions we haven't seen mock/ever before in this set at various costs. hurray, natural expansion and discovery of the curve thats realistic for modern gameplay! the minion stat cost curve in hearthstone is a bit bumpy in the 3ish zone, especially when minion abilities are particularly good. its hard to get the stat lines just right, and they had a few things in the original Classic set a bit too one way (Booty Bay, which "should" have been this card) or the other (like, IMHO, Knife Juggler, which I'd expect to be a 2/2 at best or a class card if it had been created today, but not so OP as to need to be nerfed). I for one forgive them, the game is pretty solid and fun ;p
fyi, Magic had a card that cost 4B for -4/-4 to a creature in one set, then a year later made the same effect but it cost 1 less. Magic has environments and they were in different limited/"Arena" formats, so its ok and actually made sense, and no one got out the pitchforks. And these new 'power creeps' are more about Arena than constructed anyway, and this IS a different limited environment...thats one of the MANY reasons why this is fine.
Blizzard just found a new way how to force new players to buy packs -take an old card, buff it but leave the original untouched.
For me there ends reasons why to spend money on this game. Why would I buy GvG packs to get Dr. Boom if next expansion can introduce Dr. Boomer for 6 mana with exactly the same text? Why to get Ragnaros if the Ice Ragnaros will deal 10 damage to random target?
Seriously, so far there was at least some small balance between cards, but taking old cards, renaming them and giving them bonus stats or lowering cost? What the fuck ...

You're seriously over reacting. Magma Rager and Booty Bay Body Guard are literally on the opposite sides of the card quality spectrum from Dr. Boom. No one EVER plays either of the two now obsolete cards in their decks (and for good reason) and it will probably continue even with the improvements.
No one is buying packs for these, and I'm pretty confident in saying that pretty much no one will be crafting these either.

Its not about "cards not being played" but about principles and the fact that balance team for HS is obviously completly out of picture since GvG came out with their "we won't nerf Dr. Boom". Also noone plays them? And what? The card exists and is used in the arena (at least BBG is) hence should be competetive even if not used on daily basis in constructed. A lot of basic set cards were actually in meta at one point or another - Senjin, Yeti, Shattered Sun Cleric, Gnomish inventor etc.
The fact that a card is not used in ranked doesn't mean its useless in other mods. Creating cards that are strictly better is a horrible balance decision and I see no reason to support it. If Blizzard would not be greedy they would buff the existing cards instead of creating premium quality ones.
The only way I can see this justified is if they throw the Pirate tag on Booty Bay so he can have some Synergy with the Tribe.. but even then it's pretty rough. Or add something like "At the start of your next turn Evil Heckler returns to your hand" because he is "thrown" out. That might be a buff though in some spots.
Either way.. NO JUSTICE NO PEACE, POWER UP BOOTY BAY !!
it would limit design space for future expansions.
Between 0/1 and 12/12 -- there's 156 values.

That's about 55 values -- and many of these are radically different for different values; Draw 1 card, draw 2 cards, draw 3 cards -- so there's at least 200 realistic values for these possible battlecries alone.
If they use 50 of the values on 1-costs, 50 on 2-costs, 50 on 3-costs, 50 on 4 costs -- that's 500 battlecry cards.
...
And then, they can use different stat values for minions and duplicate effects between classes.
They'll run out of WoW-related content long, long, long before they're out of possible battlecry effects for minions, alone.
If this were encroaching on a card from outside the basic set I'd cry foul just like so many here... but it's not. The basic cards are, with few exceptions, meant to be weaker than the other sets. It's a natural progression for a new player to acquire new cards that are better than what they start with. Otherwise we'd all be playing Bloodfen Raptor and [card]River Crocolisk[/card].
also, this is free vs. common they might buff the old cards with tags, or they might just let them sit. the latter is more likely. why? cause no one. NOT A SINGLE PLAYER. had to pay a peny or a single gold to get those two cards. now they a tiny power creep. in a card you have to buy.
let me ask you this, and answer honestly, if they were just new name copies of the old cards, all stat lines the same, would you be upset more or less? that this card, could as a common, pop up in your packs hundreds of times and be totally worthless from the first time you see it?
it would literally force you to buy more packs if that was the case by being pack filler garbage, and that, would be unacceptable.
I like many of the new cards, but this and Ice Rager take away a lot of the joy the other cards gave me.
Hearthstone always was different from other games in that there simply were no pure powercreeps at all. That's right, none at all. Even Boom vs Wargolem isn't one, as Boom can be killed by Rend. This is not relevant in play, but it simply is no real powercreep.
TGT now changes this and brings 2 cards, that are nothing but powercreeps, and that makes me sad. They should have at least added SOME kind of irrelevant effect, like Battlecry: 1 Damage to your hero or making these cards a beast, murloc, whatever. Just ANYTHING to avoid powercreeping. :(

yeah,no give us murloc deck players a murloc? IN TGT? HA,FAT CHANCE.unless you're a pally murloc player of course.
Boo freaking hoo. Warlock didn't get an amazing card. It's already one of the strongest most versatile classes, it doesn't need buffing. Point of an expansion is to help weaker classes and create instability in the meta whilst provoking creativity in deck archetypes. It's not about a super equal distribution of wealth in this exact iteration.

Laugh all you want now, I'll be laughing when boulderfist gets creeped.
Mechs will not be nerfed until the next expansion. Calling it because you need to keep the wallets happy too.

It's about 99% power creep. Seeing as BBB is betting in jousting, but that hardly matters. This is still awful.

i like this in arena for sure, other than that.... eeep
I realize it's just a common, but it's still bullshit. I don't find it greedy, it just seems like bad fucking game design.
I dunno. TGT might be where i stop giving a fuck about hs. Guess I'll see in a month or two.
