i guess this is an inevitable consequence of the "we don't buff cards" policy.
BB bodyguard is woefully underpowered, so there's no argument of power creep (having a new version of a terrible card is not power creep). I doubt this card is as good as Senjin but at least it's worth trying as an alternative.
Also, this is common, making it plenty accessible on day 1 to FTP players, in the unlikely event it turns out to be essential. Why so much whining? Had it been a legendary 4/5 taunt for 4, I could see the point.

This. Instead of buffing unplayable neuts, they just introduce 'better' versions. What's wrong with this kind of powercreep on cards that don't make it into constructed and barely in arena?

it's pretty solid as well.
whats wrong with buffing the basic cards?? if they really cared about BBB being bad, they would just buff it, they did, after all, made UTH Originally 4 mana and then halved it to 2, so its not like cards were never buffed. its just a common, so if someone wanted to play this card, its cheap, but it sets dangerous precedent, I wouldnt be surprised, if the next cards to be made obsolete by power creep were patriarch and lord of the arena and whats next? are they gonna powercreep spider tank? yeti? boulderfist ogre? or are the gonna start powercreeping playable rares too? like is argent commander gonna get 4/3 sibling just because the current one isnt really good enough anymore? is argus gonna get 3/3 variant? hell, the only reason why some of the new 2drops arent powercreep is just because we dont actually have 3/2 and 2/3 without tribal tag, so sometimes river croc or raptor/murlock can be better than the new cards...
Whining in this thread and others is ridiculous. Changing old cards is POINTLESS if you can release new ones. Would you be happier if they removed Booty Bay from the game simultaneusly? If yes, why? How is nonexisting card better than unusable one?
Yes, it doesn't matter, but this is a wrong step nonetheless.
Dr. Boom was at least legendary so you couln't play 2 of them at the same time and chance for picking him in arena was slim at least. On the other hand these cards have the exact same rarity and you get a same chance of getting BBB and Harvester in arena.
From time to time I really feel like this game is becoming "flip a coin, if head you win a game"
Wow. I don't get the complaining here. Booty Bay was unplayable, ignorable junk. It means literally nothing to the game for there to be a slightly better version, that, in all likelihood, will still see no play whatsoever. There are plenty of 3/2s, many of which have a lot more synergy than beasts (Whirling Zap-o-matic with attack buffs for instance) and people aren't condemning those. Besides, I think Booty Bay still serves the purpose of diluting the common slot in Arena.
Moreover, this card can drop off a Sky Golem, Booty can't, knocking one mana off a card does make it straight up better, but Hearthstone is the kind of game where it also changes a whole lot of things. Could Booty Bay have been straight up buffed? Probably, yeah, but Kripparian and Ben Brode exchanged a lot of thoughts about why Blizzard don't do that, and there were some very fair points about it.
There's no sense complaining about this. The only time you would even notice the two cards existing is if they came up against eachother in the same draft pick.

This power creep doesn't matter, but this is a wrong step for Hearthstone. I fear what may come next.
However, instead of creating an exact copy of it reduced in one mana, they could have simply reduced the cost of Booty Bay Bodyguard. They've already nerfed several cards, what's the problem in improving one? I just think this is weird. Sure, this card wont matter, it's not going to see play anyway, but I'm afraid they could do this to other cards in the future, making it even harder for newer players to get in the fight.
That's the thing I am worried about: newer players. I hope Hearthstone does not scare the new generation.
This is not a new thing. Most card games like MTG and Yugioh will have cards that are straight up power creep, they're only trying to make a card playable.

Absolutely correct. There are loads of cards in MtG that are strictly better (to use the correct term) than other cards:
Clearly the Hearthstone designers are well aware of these issues and do address them, but I'm afraid that their solutions are a little too subtle for certain members of the Hearthstone community to grasp...
Anyway, Ben Brode has stated in the past that if there is a card that is sub-par, rather than buffing it he would prefer to print a better card:
I think we can all agree that Booty Bay Bodyguard is indeed sub par. So Brode has just done exactly what he said he would do: Fixed a crappy card by printing a better one. And printing a card which isn't particularly awesome which happens to be strictly better than a card that isn't played at all isn't going to cause any significant "power creep".
Booty Bay Bodyguard helps win Joust! this card wont! Booty Bay Bodyguard is way better!

OMG, haven't you guys played any Card Game? It's completely normal for new cards to be better than the old ones.

is this the day when HS starts to fall? f*** the powercreep
bright side, if you see this card in your next round, you pick him too.....

I'm hoping this means that cards like Booty Bay and Magma Rager will soon be replaced or redesigned.
Seems like there is hivemind in this card discussion.
5/4 for taunt creature is not that good, you usually want more health on them. Thats why I think that Senjin even having less stats are better card.
This, alongside Ice Rager, is power creep incarnate, moreso than Dr. Boom. I mean: Booty Bay Bodyguard is crying right now.

http://mtgsalvation.gamepedia.com/Strictly_better
The sky doesn't fall whenever MtG prints a strictly better card - but a lot of people in the Hearthstone forums are full of histrionics.
Note that printing strictly better cards can result in power creep, but there are ways to mitigate that, see for example http://mtgsalvation.gamepedia.com/Power_creep
