Who the fuck cares if it's power creep. Booty bay guard is very weak, and this card is weak too. Who cares if completely unplayable cards get power creeped. You guys gotta relax a bit.

Because this mindset creates a cycle that makes old card obsolete more and more? Because it adds nothing to the game, that buffing old cards can't? Because it reeks of an attempt on behalf of producers to fill their pocket in the cheapest way possible?

But booty bay guard wasn't even playable in vanilla. If they power creeped Argent Commander, for example, I'd be worried - because he used to be viable and is now getting power creeped.

That has nothing to do with his point. If they thought those cards were undervalued, why not simply change them?

Because they want people to start with bad cards, and obtain better cards. It's not as tragic as people make it out to be.

That is a fair point. The problem I see is, this creates a concerning pattern. If they start power creeping and very few objects, they will continue with it even more. At some point, the game will become where only new cards will be played and the old ones will be left to collect dust.
Maybe it sounds like a conspiracy theory, but this is a method that has been put into use many times in history, politics, gaming etc. This is just boiling the frog* and It is usually not a good sign. That's why it worries me, and that's why it should worry people like you more. Because Argent Commander is probably not the next one on the list, but he will enter that list one day.

Not a good mind set, the game is already hard enough for new players, now their below average decks will have direct upgrades. Booty Bay was also almost good enough to play, the advantage Heckler offers over taz dingo might even let it see constructed play as it has taunt to protect minions and enough attack to trade with yeti and punch for 5 damage. If cards are being replaced and good enough to play in constructed in niche decks that obsoletes so many cards you essentially decrease the amount of cards in the game. Ice Rager and Heckler are 2 wasted card slots for the expansion that could have been many many other unused stat lines or creature types, among making magma rager and booty bay essentially the same cards are ice rager and heckler as you'd never use them over the otehr and very rarely with them as the only reason for their existence.
Blatant power creep might not mean as much to a high level / competitive minded constructed player, but this absolutely effects the state of arena. Adding power creeped cards not only devalues the unpick able old cards, but now alters the balance of all cards already within that mana slot. Heckler is actually really good in arena and Ice maw will see some picks as druid of the flame is a good card and magma rager saw minimal play mostly because it lost to 1 damage hero powers like mage, rogue druid and in some cases paladins, it at least gets some value and trades for something even if it's unfavorably instead of free negative card value. A 5/2 for 3 will really devalue yeti and other arena cards.
Another note, the amount of spawn or create minions or cards out of nothing such as unstable portal, piloted shredder / Sky Golem, web spinner in some cases, mulch and others are directly effected, this also directly effects constructed play that sees these type of rng cards. That's another chance to increase the good or bad RNG that could swing the game. Adding 2 extra cards that are the same just increase the odds of getting that same card really.
I felt a great disturbance in the balance. As if millions of Booty Bay Bodyguards suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened...
You people seriously want to see a one line patch note saying they lowered to cost of BBB by 1 rather than seeing a new card? I'm pretty sure everyone would go absolutely apeshit if that happened. You think if GvG would've been fun if were just a list of patch notes?
- Half of the existing cards are now labeled as Mechs!
- Ironfur grizly now has +1 health but loses taunt
- Earthen Ring Farseer now costs 5 mana and heals for 8 but can only target the Hero
- War Golem is now a legendary and spawns 2 boombots!
That would've been boring as shit. So yeah, I like the new versions of BBB and Magma Rager. And it's not like anyone is actually going to use them anyway.
yeah they wouldve gone apeshit.
they wouldve also gone apeshite if a card in the same rarity was objectively better than another card of the same rarity

RIP booty bay bodyguard and magma rager, not that they saw play to begin with, but now they def won't.
So next expansion 0 Mana Elven Archer to push rogue again confirmed?
I guess that's one way to avoid testing new commons, just rerelease old ones and say "We can't buff old cards".
Because this mindset creates a cycle that makes old card obsolete more and more? Because it adds nothing to the game, that buffing old cards can't? Because it reeks of an attempt on behalf of producers to fill their pocket in the cheapest way possible?
Because at some point they run out of ideas for new cards and eventually have to resort to old ideas that are slightly better.
On a quest to capture every zone in Azeroth into Hearthstone cards! Elwynn Forest, Redridge Mountains, Stranglethorn Vale and Northern Barrens!

VS
Pure powercreep, really sucks.
I'm fine with this (rather blatant) power creep.
1. The cards they replace are given to everyone at the beginning for free. This way you can upgrade by opening a pack. It is a good experience.
2. The cards they replace are at the bottom of the tier list in power.
3. Yes they could have added "Your 0 cost minions cost 1 more" or other ignored effect, but why fool yourself? If your going to do it, don't hide it.
Blizzard: You have failed to solve a problem that has plagued the industry. That is too bad.
Not a power creep. Weaker than BBB in terms of jousting mechanic.
Wow pure power creep? That's pretty bad and it still seems like not a very good card.

"you can't escape me"*
*or my mech mage.
Not the same rarity tho
