not as good as it seems due to it being the worst topdeck in history when you are losing (typically when a "damage all" effect is good). The lack of overload makes it still a contender in a more controlly deck, a controlly board clear that shaman will need with Volcano rotating, getting it off Hagatha effects isnt too bad either. But generated cards are always more valuable than deckbuilt cards.
Check out the video, it only upgrades once after opponents turn
Ok then, confirmed -- Blizzard completely failed at their own card text rules. Seems about par for the course for them.
Is it really so hard to type out "Upgrades ON each OF YOUR turnS!" A mere three extra words and one extra letter, and BAM, the mistake would be fixed. But they won't do it.
A new area spell for Shamans to replace Volcano, which I regrettably didn't get to use much.
Also a new type of upgradeable spell to replace the spellstones from Kobolds & Catacombs. Since it upgrades automatically this time, I don't have to worry about building a deck that can consistently upgrade it and make use of its effect. On the other hand, it would be a pain to topdeck this; whatever deck uses a scheme card will have to be able to deal with that.
It's not great but it could be a support card if a slow control shaman is a thing. It can be like a "support" clear but shaman will need something better than this because it's really limited on it' own unlike something like volcano.
This is a very good card if Shaman has any viable control deck that holds a lot of cards, which means you can both wait several turns for this to charge up and you don't mind one of your cards being unplayable for a few turns. How good this card is depends entirely on how good control/slow combo shamans are, as I don't see how it would fit into any other kind of shaman deck.
No, it certainly won't "replace" Volcano. Volcano is a powerful card to hold at any point during a game, especially when you have no board. This card however is a terrible topdeck or random card off Hagatha the Witch and requires you to deliberately hold a dead card for several turns in order to become somewhat strong. Even then, it can't deal with Deathrattles or huge minions effectively and you would (in case you use it in Mid Range lists) most certainly blow up your own board as well. Also, Control Shaman isn't a thing without any kind of heal (remember Healing Rain rotates soon) and has no real win condition. My vote goes to "bad".
Yes it certainly will. I completely understand your argument. But any sort of slow shaman will need to play AOE. Until now, they played volcano. Now volcano is gone, and they have this. This replaces volcano. Being worse than something doesn't mean that it's not a replacement.
Is it worse? Yup.
Will it see play? Yes, if there's a reason to play a slow shaman.
AOE's, even the bad ones, almost always see play eventually.
Very strong replacement for Volcano . Schemes are gonna be a tricky mechanic to balance, since they're dead draws a lot of the time, but can ramp up to very high power levels. (I've heard from people that have interacted with the cards that the cap is 45, because of the turn limit)
RegisKillbin covered this. It is only on the owner's turn and there is no upper cap beyond the turn limit.
If he's right, then they utterly messed up the text. Gruul uses the same "each turn" wording, and he gets bigger every turn, including your opponent's. So if it's only on the owner's turn, they royally messed up the wording hardcore.
The each turn mechanic depends on where it is in the game. If it's in your hand, each turn means each of YOUR turns, as seen in cards like Gilnean Royal Guard . If the card is on the board, each turn means each of EITHER PLAYERS turns, as seen in cards like Gruul . Since it upgrades in your hand, it only upgrades at the start of your turn. Also, they probably shortened it to "Upgrades each turn!" just to make the text stay on one line, because it admittedly looks better than having the parentheses on separate lines.
How does it work with kragwa ? Do I get back a 1 damage spell or the damage when played? Basically is each damage number an individual card (like spellstones) or is it the same card with an incremental spell damage buff?
hard to judge but I think very strong. You need 3 damage to be a cost effective AOE. But against many decks 2 damage is enough to clear a wide board already. As a topdeck ofcourse not very good, do you keep this in opening hand as a control deck? A lot of times yes i think so. If you can stall as a shaman then this will be the clear you need.
Very good board clear. Very effective and cheap. You hold volcano 3.5 turns on average. So this card should be holded at least as long. So this card should deal 4 to 6 dmg on average.
You keep board clear in oppening hand against aggro anyway.
You need to think of Schemes exactly as Spellstones. If you top deck a Spellstone, they tend to be pretty terrible, though NOT completely useless. Schemes NEED to be drawn early and held in your hand for a few turns to work.
But unlike Spell stones, they have zero condition to make it better. You dont need to play overload cards, damage yourself or play weapons. The card sits in your hand getting better every turn.
So in many ways this is far superior to Spellstones as you dont need to build around them. You simply have them in your deck and want to draw them early.
This card will make Control Shaman possible. It means you cannot over commit to the board against Shaman because you do not know if they had this card and for how long they did. Unlike Volcano, you at least know if you they play Volcano, their next turn was nerfed and you had 1 turn to rebuild your board.
This card has no downsides. Also, this goes into the Dragon Shaman decks running around. You can now Discover this spell on turn 2 with Firetree Witchdoctor.
I didnt think this card was that strong at first, but there are alot of synergies that exist. This card is going to be very very good.
I'll be curious to see if it resets when you get it back with the frog.
No, overloaded spellstones do not reset
Are you sure? I mean, it is entirely possible, if you recast the Hunter spellstone with Zul'jin it will cast whatever upgraded version you played before.
I assume it will reset, but it might not. The difference might be that the spellstones actually transform into new cards (with their own name), while the schemes do not, but then again, if you return cards like Janalai they don't reset either, even though the card text doesn't change. Likewise, if you steal cards from your opponent they remain as "charged" as they were in the opponent's hand, including cost reductions or other buffs.

Arena for sure, constructed iffy.

I suppose it has synergy with the loa... But shaman will need other good spells for the loa to work

I guess I'll have to wait and see.
Control Midrange Shaman will be a thing, I'm betting it.
Loads of power with the new Hagatha Cards. This + the Legendary + the Hero Power .
Mid game is swung your way and then infinite value.
In topdeck mode is completely insta loss, otherwise, seems decent. Will play it on Concede, control and Shuddergod Shaman.
