In the recent Blizzard Q&A Blizzard has stated the Rogue class identity to be modeled as:
"Trickster" and "Outsmarting your opponent"
This will probably be the future focus, but having side stuff like "Pickpocket" (burgle etc), Stealth and Deathrattles can be interesting to go into, pickpocket being a focus.
It is revealed that they even considered transferring Gadgetzan Auctioneer into wild.
What are future thoughts on class identity for Rogue and will they change its playstyle drastically?
It would be great if there were some "hidden" minions that did something when unstealthed or that you knew it was one of a trio of 4/5s that have different effects in order to gain advantage
kind of a secret but attached to a minion and on the board as an interactive body, maybe even a new mechanic playing with the shadow theme would be interesting.
Also we should be getting a battlecry Burgle effect soon if they want to push that as well.
I'm not sure I like the idea of more stealth, since there is very limited counterplay against that mechanic.
I also wonder how they intend to capture the trickster vibe. Powerful battlecries to amplify shadowstep, etc? More sap-like cards? chip damage? When I think trickster I think of a deck that is to a large degree reactive, i.e. a control deck, which Rogue naturally is bad at playing due to no heals or taunts.

Could Rogue be getting some secret cards? Would fit the theme of their class and it would fit under this 'trickster' theme they described.
It did make me chuckle when they said the "considered moving auctioneer to wild" but its too cool a card.......
Read between the lines, they said themselves that they are struggling with class identity for Rogues, and moving auctioneer to wild would have basically deleted the class from Rank 10 upwards pretty much, losing azure drakes is going to hurt enough.
Personally i would like to see them do something with a poison/bleed mechanic or maybe something with stuns or disabling targets, like i mean how the hell are kidney shot, blind, gouge, cheapshot, garrote to name a few not in the game!!!!
Stealth yes also fits but tbh as we have seen it is either far to OP and cant be balanced around or useless and gimmicky which is just bad for the game as well as the class
With the loss of Azure Drake, the 5 mana spot for Burgling Bully is open, somewhat helping with the loss of Tomb Pillager. Losing the card draw and spell damage from Drake seems significant, though.
Also, as much as I want to keep using Auctioneer, I feel like decks might shift back towards Sprint. Tomb Pillager brought new life to Auctioneer. Can Counterfeit Coin fill in the role and put some new 4 drop in place? Maybe? There will be deck slots with the removal of Conceal.
I'd personally like to see rogue get 0 mana secrets
Maybe something like
0 mana secret, when your opponent plays a minion, add a backstab to hand
0 mana, when your opponent plays a spell, the next spell you play next turn costs (2) less
0 mana, when your opponent deals damage to one of your characters, You begin the next turn with 1 combo count
I put them at 0 mana just because I think the identity they like is gad being useful or at least being able to combo easier with cards like vancleef and such.
Noxious' suggestion was to create cards that interact with non-Rogue class cards, or cards that use them as an alternate resource. That way, you can choose to either play the cards, or use it to combo with other cards instead, which then adds alot more skill to the deck, instead of just pure RNG.
A few examples he gave:
- 0mp Spell: Restore 4 health for each non-Rogue class card in hand.
- 5mp Spell: Discard all non-Rogue class cards in hand and summon a 3/3 minion with Stealth for each card discarded. This card also synergizes with Stealth interacting effects.
-Legendary minion, forgot the mana cost, body equivalent to 1mp less vanilla minion. Battlecry: Convert all non-Rogue cards in hand to Eviscerates.
As for Stealth, its just a bad non-interactive mechanic, like Charge.

Nox is a horrible sellout.
His ideas are crap.

The 1st step towards a better game is firing Mike Donais! We had enough of his "skillful" balances!

“I’M A SHADOW, ONE THAT NO LIGHT WILL SHINE ON. AS LONG AS YOU FOLLOW ME, YOU WILL NEVER SEE THE DAY.”
Both Reno and Aggro are cancer!

The opponent will never expect that shatter when there's no frozen minions!
I'm willing to bet that they'll make an over costed stealth-ed taunt, that seem's like something blizz would do, also signature related.
5 mana 1/1 Taunt, Stealth, Rattle: discover a Bolster, Shatter or Purify.

Morph incoming? That'd be pretty cool.

I think a Stealth Aggro Rogue has potential. It would need a few more cards though.

Damn, I had hopes they would stop pushing these dumb burgle mechanics, I hate this bullshit. I really don't want them to turn Rogue into another Mage.
I think the return to hand mechanic has a lot of potential, i hope they will do some cool things with it.
Maybe they should make stealth Stealth! so you cant see what the minion is until it attacks!
Would probably Majorly unbalance but still..... :)
...The problem is not the problem, the problem is your attitude to the problem.
I don't think that will ever happen really.

It's a hard mess to predict at this point.

Check out Noxious' video, he has some cool ideas.
The main problem with Burgle Rogue is that you tend to get useless cards like Shatter, Totemic Might, Primal Fusion, Demonfuse, Embrace the Shadow, etc, some of which you can't even play from hand.
Noxious' suggestion was to create cards that interact with non-Rogue class cards, or cards that use them as an alternate resource. That way, you can choose to either play the cards, or use it to combo with other cards instead, which then adds alot more skill to the deck, instead of just pure RNG.
