just wanted to ask a little question, did the last expansions bring out the same amount of new archetypes, than the last years? I started playing in KaC so I don't know that much about the impact of older expansions. But ever since the release of witchwood, that changed the meta alot, i don't feel like the new sets have brought that much to the table. I don't know if that's because of the lower power level (which i find good btw). If i can recall this is the past: (some are assumptions since i did not play in that time) Ungoro brought: 9 new quest decks elemental mage/shaman
Kotft brought Druid madness viable highlander priest insane wincondition for mage insane wincondition for warlock fatigue warrior prince keleseth (-.-) freeze shaman LUL
KaC brought spiteful druid/priest spell hunter big beast hunter big spell mage aggro pala big priest kingsbane rogue control and cube warlock recruit warrior
then witchwood even pala/shaman odd rogue/pala taunt druid shudderwock shaman rush warrior? zoo warlock
boomsday brought only odd warrior malygos druid
I don't want to make assumptions about what archetypes will stick from RR but so far it seems like the amount of variety is decreasing by a lot. Is this just a biased feeling of me? is it just because the old decks are too strong? or is blizzard getting less creative these days? I am really looking forward to next year :)
There won't be a whole lot of "new decks". That's mostly because how insanely OP other expansions like Ungoro, KotFT and K&C were. Some of the cards out of those expansion had such a ridiculously high power level that it doesn't really allow a lot of room for creativity.
Once they rotate though, things will be shaken up big time.
This is bound to happen tho, the first expansion of the year has the least amount of cards in the card pool so people scrap by with whatever they can, the more cards that get released the more refined some decks get eventually the decks that get the most support just outpower the early year decks and leave them behind, i.e back in 2016 reno decks were hot garbo during old gods but once gadgetzan came out the Meta was literally Pirates vs Reno.
Un'goro really didn't bring 9 quest decks it brought two, quest rogue (original quest was completed with 4 minions and summoned 5/5s) and quest warrior, it also brought an aggro murloc paladin that hadn't existed before,, elemental mage and shamman weren't decks either, shamman was `playing token shamman, overall ungoro's meta were 12 samey aggro decks, 11 of which were already technically playable in msg , silence priest, the seeping bullshit that was pirate warrior with Bittertide Hydra, quest warrior, quest rogue, discover mage and a deck called Ez big EZ druid, Jade druid was also possible but it died to all the aggro.
Frozen throne brought some Gul'dan antiaggro deck that J4ckie chan went 28-1 during the first day because he tried to farm people that were using aggro decks to farm people experimenting, which ended up being tier 4 when, razakus prest, big Priest and the mega boosted Jade druid that lead to the innervate nerf, happened, but so far Frozen throne was a realy dull 4 deck Meta anyways, it Was razakus priest, Jade druid, Keleseth rogue and Big priest, and the only two decks that you could consider new were Razakus priest and Keleseth rogue,
Also, don't lose hope just yet, there might be a new strong archetype waiting to break through around the corner (Even pirate rogue??) and old archeypes have gotten a lot of support and feel different to play (otk dk paladin, spell hunter, deathrattle hunter...)

I didn't mention old or just stronger archetypes on purpose, because i don't really know how to rank them, so i just dedicated this to purely new archetypes :P
and i also didn't really went into detail on RR because it is so fresh that we don't know what type will stick and what not. Lot's of legendaries do look like they will have a spot in a future meta, but not quite yet. Also my list is by no means complete, as i mentioned before i did not play at that time, so i actually don't know how anything was prior to koftf
man after hearing your opinions i am even more hyped for next year. atm i am tinkering with some emeriss hunter with absolute neutral results xD i am also looking forward to what RR still has hidden in it s pockets

Yo yo fellas,
just wanted to ask a little question, did the last expansions bring out the same amount of new archetypes, than the last years?
I started playing in KaC so I don't know that much about the impact of older expansions. But ever since the release of witchwood, that changed the meta alot, i don't feel like the new sets have brought that much to the table. I don't know if that's because of the lower power level (which i find good btw). If i can recall this is the past: (some are assumptions since i did not play in that time)
Ungoro brought:
9 new quest decks
elemental mage/shaman
Kotft brought
Druid madness
viable highlander priest
insane wincondition for mage
insane wincondition for warlock
fatigue warrior
prince keleseth (-.-)
freeze shaman LUL
KaC brought
spiteful druid/priest
spell hunter
big beast hunter
big spell mage
aggro pala
big priest
kingsbane rogue
control and cube warlock
recruit warrior
then witchwood
even pala/shaman
odd rogue/pala
taunt druid
shudderwock shaman
rush warrior?
zoo warlock
boomsday brought only
odd warrior
malygos druid
I don't want to make assumptions about what archetypes will stick from RR but so far it seems like the amount of variety is decreasing by a lot.

Tempo, control and hybrid Odd mage are new decks.
