I'm a little bit confused. From my understanding it seems like you'll have to buy new packs ever year to keep being able to make viable decks and all your older stuff will just go to waste. Essentially every new set of cards will only be good for a year? How will f2ps survive?
It will recieve developer attention and the famous streamers will logically play that mode in order to gain points. Which means people will want to play standard, wild will be the pleb mode.
Standard will be tournament format, so yea definitely people will play standard. Since there is a smaller card pool, it will also attract newer players as well.
The old stuff doesnt go to waste it goes into wild. For most players nothing does change. However if the rebalance some of classic/basic cards and release a new SET. things realy go crazy in the next months.
However i think standard will be so limited that basically only 1 deck will be good and there will be no diversity, pretty horrible for new players I agree.
Yes, people will play standard. In fact, it is likely that most people will play standard, as it is the main format and the one all Blizzard competitions will be held in.
As Basic and Classic sets remain part of standard, new players will have cards to play there. In fact, new players will initially be more competitive in standard than in wild, because as wild allows all cards to be used, the power level of decks in wild will be higher than in standard.
The lifespan of an expansion in standard will be between 1.5 and 2 years by the way. Expansions from the year before last year will become obsolete each spring, so the spring expansion will have a lifespan of around 2 years and the last expansion of the year will have a lifespan of around 1.5 years.
Magic: The Gathering did the same years ago, and as Standard is the main competitive format there, it is also the format that sees most play.
All of the problem cards from the current meta game are gone in standard, so I will at least give it a try. Mid-range is taking a huge hit so if a couple of decent replacement control tools crop up in the newest set, we could have a really awesome control meta. I'm really excited to try standard.
You buy new packs as always for 'Wild' mode, but then realise some strategies are too weak there. Then you hop into Standard where you can play some the cards that are fun, but too weak for Wild mode.
They won't sell old packs... eventually everyone is going to play standard, it will be played by streamers and on tournaments. Wild mode is just an illusion that "nothing changed" or it would cause supreme riot. This is just a beginning of a new era. Wild mode will be possibly played less than Tavern Brawl year from now. At least that's my prediction
TLDR: The biggest 'problem' i see with this is not being able to purchase older sets. It's going to eventually kill 'Wild' format.
I agree a lot with Toymachine. I'm perfectly OK with a new format implemented. However i think the issue is with not being able to purchase older sets. Initially nearly everyone will be able to play 'Wild' as its essentially what we're all playing now. However as these cards become 'craft only', time goes by and players come and go, the % of people with larger old collections will become smaller and smaller. Eventually only a few people will have a large portion of the old sets and new players will just stick to standard, eventually killing the Wild format entirely. Just look at Magic the gathering as a prime example. Legacy is still played, but it's no longer an official format, and its dying as not as many people have access to those cards and the price of them is just out of reach for casual players (And UNLIKE Magic, you can't trade your cards in Hearthstone, which is 80% of the reason older MTG formats have survived as long as they have.) And contrary to the type of person a forum user might be, the majority of the Hearthstone community would fall under 'casual' players.

Control is going to take a big hit too....Face is the Place decks will be happier than ever tho

Control counters face decks as long as we get a few decent anti aggro tools in upcoming expansions and only Shaman face decks and maybe rogue face decks didn't take a significant hit with the rotation.
With no Belchers and Healbot i will hear "Greetings Traveller" way more often then i like. Unless with upcoming balance changes the will do smth with AC and KC.
Standard will be played by most.. wild mode will be the true P2W mode, except people who will dedicate to it, there will be little play there since getting those cards will be a lot harder..

Unfortunately you're right. By endorsing the Standard mode as the -guess what?- standard format even for World Championship they're basically forcing all the pro players and the streamers to adapt and comply to that. That change alone, along with the possibility for new players to catch up with their collection, is going to seal the downfall of the Wild mode in the long run (only veterans are going to be able to play that). Fuck this shit tbh, they should host Wolds for both formats.
Yep I agree with you 100% I won't be playing Standard mode much at all, and I don't like these changes...If I was a F2P player, maybe my views would be different, but I have "invested" a lot of money into HS...I don't want limits when it comes to card use etc
Secret pally can say hello to 4th tier deck with all the cards rotating out XD No Shredder, no boom, no avenge, no minibot, no cog hammer, no muster. I'll be surprised if it's still played to be honest.
So... literally every deck is trash now lol. Wonder what people are going to come up with, we might get to see old school stuff like Yeti now that Shredder is gone. Idk what to think about it tbh.
Every expasion u will have to pay for new packs.no more f2p hearthstone thats the trick ;)
I mean classic will always be around and by the time you put 2 years into hearthstone, you generally have the gold to play standard and you'll have the cards to play wild.

Oh shit you're right! Thanks for reassuring me. I was pretty pissed off haha. Forgot about those cards being from GvG.
