I don't really get all the hype around Arrow of Polymorph. Its incredibly unreliable. Its not going to be bad enough often enough to make it better against enemy minions than Polymorph, and its not going to be good enough enough of the time to used to upgrade your cheaper minions. I just don't understand why this card appeals to people. I do think the design is very interesting, and again, does meld the two classes well, but I feel like the cost is completely wrong and the effect is too broad, even with discover to be good. The art isn't super HS related, or that well indicative of the effect in question either. So its missing flavor there.
This was a cool week, and there are some cool cards, but there are also a lot of what I would consider wording and functionality errors in the finals. As someone who has made a Ner'Zhul in the past I have to say its my personal favorite this week. The flavor is killer, the class combo is perfect. Its really just a cool card. Honorable mention to The Fintasic Four, just because I love comics hahaha. There were some missed opportunities and balance issues with it though, so I couldn't quite vote for it.
This week is all about flavor for me. The card has to justify being a dual-class card, and Arrow of Polymorph does that perfectly. The mechanic is simple and melds the themes of the two classes in a believable way.
What I don't understand is the appeal of Ner'zhul. His effect doesn't make any sense. It's just a random effect with a famous WoW character tacked on. Why should this be a dual class card? It's not even a particularly interesting effect.
Well, as a Warcraft fan, and a bit of a lore fan, Ner'zhul hits those notes correctly. Ner'Zhul was a powerful Shaman, one of the most powerful ever in fact. He was fooled by Kil'Jaeden into making a bloodpact with him, thus forsaking his Shamanistic powers and becoming the first Warlock. After getting over his initial shock at finding out about his deception, he turned toward his new power to find his revenge. Eventually he would gain the gift of True Vision, the ability to see the future, which would allow him to set his plans into motion. Finalizing with him becoming the Lich King, and immortal unstoppable force of vengeance. I thought it was a very cool interpretation of the character.
nobravery has said before he doesn't know anything about WoW lore, so that's you reading more into the effect than there is. You shouldn't credit him with an understanding of Ner'zhul.
I don't know about WoW lore but I have google and other searching engines. I chose the character after reading his lore.
Exactly. You chose an effect and used google to find a character to fit it. You didn't interpret Ner'zhul as a WoW card.
I think our discussion has gone into the wrong way. We are not voting for authors; we are voting for cards. The method I took when creating the card does not matter.
I want to weigh in on this because it is something that has been bothering me more often over the past few sessions I have been able to participate it.
I feel as though the final poll section is being used by some people to hand-pick their favorite winners, and/or rail against cards that certain users don't like. Something that I came to realize in just a few short submissions is that different players prefer different things and you are never going to make all players happy. But I do NOT like how some members turn the Final Poll thread into a personal soapbox rather than letting it remain a spotlight for ALL the cards than manage to get chosen.
I would propose that the moderators should set rules for participation in the final discussion going forward, to prevent rants and ravings from derailing the purpose of the thread.
Rants and ravings are the purpose of this thread. We're here to discuss the merits of the Final Poll cards, not just to say positive things about them. I do NOT like how some members attack the idea of criticism itself.
I don't like some people trying to use this thread to decide who wins for themselves.
The votes should do that. Not someones ability to spend 24 hours a day forum camping.
So trying to persuade other people about my point of view is no longer debate but deciding the contest myself? That is absolutely ridiculous. Posting on this thread does not give me some magic power to change peoples' votes. You're trying to shut down debate on the cards, which means people will make less-informed votes.
Having 4 pages of dialogue about why one card should win, and why the others won't, derails that process.
How is debating cards not the process? You basically just admitted you want to shut down debate by implying there's something wrong with having 4 pages of it. The longer and livelier the discussion of the cards, the better.
Putting some cards in the spotlight over others, while the vote is still running, is inherently biased.
And that's without making any accusations against any members trying to unfairly influence the vote or discussion.
What?? Listen, from what we can tell from past contests, the majority of voters don't even read the comments and just vote. Some do of course, as I do, and personally I appreciate hearing what others think!!! I think it's ridiculous to try to curtail people from sharing their opinions until after the vote. Opinions are just opinions. We all have brains for ourselves, and can decide whether what people think of cards feels important/compelling or not so much. If you look at my post on page 1, I suggested I would be voting for 3 particular cards, pending seeing what others think. After all the discussion, my votes have not actually changed (and yes I've read all the posts). So I think you should take what you want from the discussion and leave the rest, and trust that others will do the same.
edit: and by the way, my entry this week has not had any attention in this discussion thread. And that's okay with me.
Putting some cards in the spotlight over others, while the vote is still running, is inherently biased.

Wait what?
This thread is made so we can see the different cards from different perspectives. Disallowing discussion would mean that the flashiest card would win every competition. And these cards are usually Meme cards/Troll cards!
I personally want others to point out flaws in the different cards, and i have no problem if its pointed towards my own submission. Because if there is something i by chance overlook, then i might still want to know, and adjust my votes according to that, to make sure the actual best card wins, and not the one that i got the best first impression of.
I had no idea about Nee'Zhul's lore. I wouldn't have known how perfectly the card connects to it if I hadn't read these comments. The comments flesh out cards and allow voters to make stronger judgements and understand what makes a good card good and an eh card eh.
Ner'zhul by nobravery: I like the flavor, but I'm not a fan of increasing predictability of the Warlock or Shaman Hero powers, nor do I really like these "for the rest of the game" effects.
Arrow of Polymorph by HenryXLII: Neat idea, but I'm not sure I'd actually want to play it. I'd certainly draft in Arena, as a removal spell you've probably got a decent chance of discovering a bad beast minion. In constructed, I'd just run a big minion or a hard removal spell. I'm not sure the versatility is worth the unpredictable outcome in constructed. It's also difficult to balance over time as expansions release. Other discover effects still make you pay the mana costs of the discovered card, so when the pool of eligible cards changes, the balance of discover effect is less affected.
Possessed Totem by Livienna: The flavor seems just a little bit off on this one. If I've destroyed a totem possessed by an evil spirit, the physical totem should go away and the evil spirit (probably a demon or elemental or shade or somethign) should emerge in the deathrattle. I know this is probably pressing realism a little too far, but it's something to think about. It doesn't make sense that you'd smack a possessed totem to splinters and then be left with another 0 attack totem.
Fintastic Four by MistAssassin: Ugh, I really don't like Murloc meme cards. I really don't like cards with overt refrences to fandoms, especially if it's a fandom that I have no appreciation for. Setting aside the puns and fan-service, this card has nothing left for me. I do like Murloc decks, but with so many murlocs already existing, I think you need to push the creative element a little further when designing new murlocs.
Singularity by Nobroam: This is pretty good! Difficult to balance, in some situations its both better and worse than Twisting Nether. A very believable card, I could see it as a Priest only card.
Lord Char by Broeck1: I'm probably missing something here? I don't understand why you'd want to play this. A combo activator? an elemental activator? I'd rather put a useful card into my deck.
Magic Incarnate by Soulbattle: I like that this card essentially gives away your hand. Very interesting strategic implications, but if I'm going to run enough spells to make it worthwhile, I probably don't want to risk a devolve or MC Tech or some other transform/steal effect. Neat idea, but probably not worthwhile. Still, points for originality and execution.
Bad-tempered Spider by Xiaxiangde: Whew... Enrage is already such a hard thing to pull off. I can't imagine running this over Stubborn Gastropod. Still, this feels like a believable card to me. Something that could be printed, even if it's kind of bad.
Thief of Illusions by Vilegloom: Kind of an Ethereal Peddler effect? Much better for Rogue than Priest. I'd have preferred to see this as a Rogue/Mage minion.
Stormfused Drake by lolsen: Dragon and elemental synergy... versatile for Arena I suppose. In constructed, I'm not sure how realistic it is to try to shove both archetypes into one deck. It'd be better as a Priest or Shaman/Priest card.
Prowl by ThisOtherGuyTox: I like the idea of giving Stealth to a Hero. There are probably better ways to use this idea than a stitched card though.
Gag by nurgling13: This is a tricky card. Generally, when making a variation on an existing effect (Sap in the instance), it becomes a matter of which version is better and you play that version. I actually could see running Sap x2 and Gag x2. That could be overpowered potentially, I think there's a good reason Kidnapper is as expensive as it is.
Snailcat by sashashepto: Cute! But probably kind of busted with Hunter/Paladin buff effects. I've won a number of Arena matches this season with Stubborn Gastropod+Houndmaster or Blessing of Kings or Spikeridge Steed. I can imagine those situations would have been even stronger with a divine shield.
Shadowflame Twin by Zukuu: For a double discover effect, I think this minion should have a much higher cost. Also, combining the card text would probably present a lot of logical problems in terms of which effect occurs first, and visual problems in the UI. Seems too extreme.
Crystallised Treant by Donnerfausuts: Way too strong. Not sure Shaman's need mana ramping effects either. They're already got that through Overload, essentially. Generally, mana ramping should come at the drawback of having weak minions, not over-statted ones.
Exploit Weakness by Lathy: Too unpredictable of a card for my taste. Flexibility is nice in a card, but generally you should have an idea of how you intend to use a card in your deck. If I'm putting this into my deck, I feel like it's admitting that I don't have a gameplan.
Ogre Magi by SolutionXD: Isn't there already an Ogre Magi card? I'm not really sure what this is supposed to be used for... how often do you want to cast a spell twice? Let alone at random targets.
Daedorn Cinderbeard by Aezuriel: there is a lot going on here. It's a paladin/warrior card but it's also mimicking Hunter and Shaman weapons? I think a card that builds a custom weapon could be fun, but I don't want something so similar to Kazakus. There are other ways to procedurely generate a card mid-game. Beyond that, as a Kazakus-like effect, this card is too predictable. You can tech your deck and know what kind of weapon you're going to make for it.
Moonfire Totem by ihascorm: A moonfire generator seems like a bad idea given how that card gets used in Malygos decks. I'd have gone with a spell with a higher mana cost. I want to like this card. If Malygos wasn't a card, I'd like this.
Touch of Temptation by Zence: Another, "I'm not sure how I'm going to use this card" effect. I'd rather pick removals or heals... except that Warlock has no meaningful heals. I kind of dislike how much better this card is for Warlock than Priest.
My votes this week: Singularity, Prowl, Magic Incarnate and Bad Tempered Spider.
@ZardozSpeaks. Lord Charr would work as an Elemental activator and works for both quests. Its a little boring I guess, but I liked the synergie.
Aaaaah. I knew I was missing something, the quests make sense. Not sure I like this effect for the Rogue Quest, but I think that has more to do with me not liking the Rogue quest. Priests aren't generally in a hurry to finish their quest, and you wouldn't want this card polluting your pool of N'zoth resurrections either.
Arrow of polymorph is just too inconsistent. If you get a big minion when targeting an enemy, you get reaally screwed, and if you get anything below 5 mana when targetting your minion, it isn't any better (it would probably still be run in hunter though. Random cards with enormous highrolls are always good).
Also. Ner'zhul is interesting, but few people seems to realise that being a warlock you would know exactly what card you are going to draw EVERYTIME.
We need more no-Legendary rules. This contest was won by the character of Nerzhul, not a good design. nobravery didn't even know who Nerzhul was before making the card. This contest should have gone to a deserving newcomer.

Rly nigga -_- well you're just proving me right I guess.
So, it's good that choosing a popular character gives you more votes? This should be about design, not a popularity contest. It's why you had to make up your own character for the class creation contest.
I guess this week's winner according to you is none other than
"Even my flavor text is mainstream :("
Conversely, without the name Nerzhul, it wouldn't have won. It coasted on his star power.
oh for crying out loud. xD the card won, let's move on. Some people voted for it based on the effect, some people voted for it based on the effect/flavor combo. It is what it is. Clearly nobravery did some research to find a good character to match the effect. Whatever, I do that all the time since I'm not a walking WoWpedia. I don't fault them for that.
my takeaway from all this?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
eta: MistAssassin, you can be reported for using that kind of aggressive, offensive language. can't believe you edited your post to add it. I advise that you undo it.

Rather than move on, we should fix the contests so that people stop winning because they chose a popular character or WoW pet for their card. We know that people vote for cards specifically because it's one of their favorite cards, regardless of the design. People have admitted it in these threads before.

And my point is about the process.
Having 4 pages of dialogue about why certain card should win, and why the others won't, is a disservice to all the entries.
