Dirty Rat, one of the amusingly interesting cards of Hearthstone from the Gadgetzan expansion that, depending what it pulls out, can make or break a game. My thoughts went to it as cards from Un'goro were being revealed as it potentially might make itself more interesting if the new mechanics of Un'goro solidify their presence into the meta. As far as my reasoning goes that while playing him without some form of backup, which is typically early on or not drawing the supporting cards needed, is always a risk of pulling out something big and nasty early on, the risk can also pay off in really messing up deck strategies by pulling out important battlecry cards and if it is of low stats the 2/6 taunt body can easily handle it. With Un'goro, it has the potential to trip up elemental synergies and even more can also slow down or even ruin some quests by forcing out necessary or supporting cards that help complete them.
Lets run an example of dirty quest counter play the rat do, The Marsh Queen sounds like the perfect example since it looks like a good amount of people have their eyes on it. Hunters need to play 1-cost cards in order to complete this quest and they're going to want to try to do this as fast as they possibly can. On a good result on playing Dirty Rat, it will help trip up the quest by forcing out a 1 cost minion that they needed to play directly from their hand themselves and they can't really use it to go face since the rat is a 2/6 taunt. But like I say, the rat is a risk and the worst outcome in this scenario is pulling....ah shit...its Swamp King Dred
So in conclusion, when the standard shifts and if some Un'goro's major quest and elemental mechanics make it into its meta, the rat could be considered as a candidate in the way of counterplaying against them....if it does it more right than wrong enough that is.
If ever my opponent completes a quest but does not play the 5 mana quest reward on the same turn, I will Dirty Rat every time.
Dirty Rat is very useful for killing the battlecry effects of a lot of minions, but how happy would you be to pull an 8/8ish minion in most circumstances? At least by the time they have it you should have additional mana for a removing it.

I'd rather deal with a free 8/8 than 5 mana 8/8 with insane perks. Any quest deck will absolutely be relying on that value to carry them through the game so I'd say this is a decent strategy

Some of the rewards are spells though...
I wonder how viable Counterspell and the new copy a spell secret are going to be in this regard. With all the secret support Mage is getting, it mighit very well become a thing to watch out for.
Interesting how everyone involved talks specifically about counter playing the rewards rather than the quest itself. I was more talking about it using in a way that makes some of these quests themselves much more difficult, if not impossible, to complete since it can pull out cards that your opponents would rather prefer they played or cards that helps get them the cards they need to complete the quest. After all, to complete it as smoothly as possible requires a good amount of set up. That said and with what is revealed so far, there are some quests out there that would be bad or hesitating for Dirty Rat to faceoff against. Priest's Awaken the Makers since it goes by summon rather than play and pulling out a deathrattle just helps that out. Using it against Shaman's Unite the Murlocs feels like an "ehhhhhhh maybe...." scenario because while it helps by summoning the murlocs in the short-term, it could disrupt the quest in the long term if they are murlocs that help the shaman find or get more murlocs plus the 2/6 taunt body is a good wall against their typically weak stats.

I would expect quest decks to have more than a little redundancy in their quest progression cards, since you never know how the shuffle is going to turn out. I mean, you can try to trip them up, but you can only expect to slow them down, not stop them.
I think Dirty Rat will have a bigger impact just generally killing battlecries, which seem to be quite abundant in this expansion.

Especially more efficient for Hunter's quest reward Queen Carnassa because when Hunter completes his quest, probably he has run out of minions in his hand except Queen Carnassa because he has cheap minions for it.
Even if it isn't about quest and battlecry thing and If Control Warrior is a thing again, it has great synergy with Brawl.
You're talking about countering quest itself, but some of quests has "Summon" word on it. Isn't Dirty Rat summoning from your oppenent's hand or am I wrong?
And let's compare with quests that we know, Hunter's quest is playing minions so Dirty Rat can counter as summoning 1-cost minion directly from hand.
Priest's quest is summon so it is uncounterable with him.
Rogue's quest is summon so it is uncounterable + it can be so dangerous because of Shadowcaller and Youthful Brewmaster and it can be good if we can pull Youthful Brewmaster or Shadowcaller too. It's so luck oriented. but already its reward is a spell. so no reason to play Dirty Rat against rogue quest.
Shaman's quest is summon so it is uncounterable and wont help in long term i guess because of shaman's removals.
Hunter's quest is play so he is the right choice for counter his quest.
Warlock's quest is discard, so if we can pull some discard cards it can be but.. Discarding cards always powerful for its mana cost so it can be dangerous for us. and 1 more but is if we can pull his main discard synergy card (Clutchmother Zavas) but its reward is a spell so no reason to play Dirty Rat against warlock's quest.
and the other classes;
Paladin will probably get "summon x silver hand" quest or if it is not it will be "heal x health " can be. they are not counterable.
Druid's will be either "summon/play x beast" or "adapt x beast/minion" so 1/4 counterable.
Mage's will be either "summon/play x elementals" or "play x spells/secrets" so 1/4 counterable.
Warrior's will be either "gain x armor" or "damage x minions" or "equip x weapon" or "hit a characther with your hero x times" or "play/summon x taunts" so 1/6 counterable.
So 1 on 5 maybe with best case scenario 4/9 is certain counter. I don't see a reason to play Dirty Rat before their quests done. So If I have Dirty Rat in my deck, I will wait them to finish their quest except for Warlock and Rogue. Maybe other classes will have spell reward I don't know.
Anyway, it is still early to speak about it because we must know every quest for this kind of topics.
But what i know is Dirty Rat is a great card to counter all battlecry effects and most of quest rewards + greatly synergizes with mostly Brawl and Doomsayer and almost all board clears so Why won't put it in our decks. Whatever.

Memedeck-seeker. Always tries to build new decks. Hates tournements, streamers, netdecks and poor-o players. ah, but a tournement mode could be great !!!

So then there's zero risk of pulling a 5 mana 8/8...
Mana binding your opponents quest reward will be one of the most enjoyable experiences in the entire game
I was saying the same thing that Dirty Rat in control warrior is the definite must play over Cornered Sentry because of this potential. I think Dirty Rat will actually have people thinking about when they should finish their quest. Am I playing a deck that I think runs Dirty Rat and therefore should play around getting my reward pulled? Should I wait until I can complete my quest and play my reward on the same turn? I think it'll make the meta interesting at least, and although I don't think Dirty Rat will see must-have type of play, I do think you will see him in any control oriented deck to come.
So some post testing thoughts now that in Un'goro is out so far in using it: The most prominent deck I think Dirty Rat has a place in, is believe it or not, the rogue quest deck and the results are quite amusing. Now one might wonder why its in there in the first place but rogues have the contingencies to handle dangerous minions with Vilespine Slayer and Envenom Weapon. All it takes is a good read on when to use it and quite honestly, Blizzard has made that easy with its use of indicators. It has ruined quests, sometimes through the immediate forcing out of their reward, and/or slowed them down to the point where i am able to complete mine over theirs. The best time i had using it in the deck is that it ruined a mage OTK by pulling out their important finisher cards only to be eaten up by vilespines so it has its uses if mage is relying on the one trick ponies that is Time Warp shenanigans.
I merely want to share my experience with a certain card in this expansion, and I think the title says it all.
I think that the strength of Dirty Rat has increased this season and he has been the MVP in so many of my games, and I just wanted to share my experience with this in certain match ups that I have noticed people being salty about.
Exodia Mages: Having two Dirty Rats in this matchup almost guarantees you to hit one or two Sorcerer’s apprentice’s or the big one: Archmage Antonidas which more or less disrupts their combo. And most of the time you don’t have to worry about having an answer because they will most likely play a doomsayer or two at some point before going off. However, be aware that pulling one Apprentice from their hand is not enough as they can get a Molten Reflection from Primordial Glyph and still go off.
Quest Rogue: I think I win most of my games against this deck when I play Dirty Rat because there are so many good targets. Hitting a stonetusk boar or one of their chargers is kind of meh. But if you hit the minion they bounced the first time or one of their bouncers then you are in pretty good shape. Of course this is no guaranteed win but it can slow them down; a thing the deck do not like.
Hell even against elemental decks there are good targets because they are mostly battlecry minions and you might even disrupt their precious curve plays.
Maybe I am exaggerating and being overly excited about this card at the moment but I have never been happier about having Dirty Rat in my deck. Especially against Mages. What’s your experience with the card?
So I played yesterday some games with Quest Warrior. I have in the Deck 2 Dirty Rat's. I managed to go 9-1 against 3 Rogues, 3 Warrior (2 of them Pirate haha), 1 Mage, 2 Hunters.
3 Games of this 10, Dirty Rat won me the game. I just had to pull out the Rogues "Bounce Card" and the Mage's Antonidas and it was easy game for me. The one game I lost was against one Rogue, where I didn't find Dirty Rat in time.
In my oppinion, this is the real MVP against all Quest decks in the future. Anyone had the same experience?
It's an auto-include at 2 for every control deck at the moment. Being able to pull cards that annihilate control like Antonidas and Megafin and kill them on sight is hugely valuable.
saw a post naming dirty rat, just want to quickly say that it is a trash designed card... but really these days all cards seems to be trash designed...

yes totally !! I have same experience atm playing control shaman with 2 rats just to farm mage and rogues at rank 3.
