A Less Friendly Game of Chess is This Week's Brawl!
Things have gotten a little underhanded at Medivh's Magical Chessboard. Bring 6 unique cards and hide them under the table, they could swing the match in your favor!
Trivia
- This is a brand new brawl!
- The brawl comes to us from the One Night in Karazhan Chess Boss.
- A Friendly Game of Chess was a similar version of this brawl but did not allow for deckbuilding.
- This brawl uses the Wild format so all playable cards can be used.
How it Works
- Build a deck using six cards. No duplicates are allowed.
- You will be given either the White King or Black King. Your health is 20, the heroes are the same.
- Most chess pieces cannot attack normally. They automatically hit minions or heroes that are directly in front of them.
- Your hero power allows you to Discover a chess piece.
- Positioning is key. You'll get the best value if your minions are between his as they will hit two targets instead of one.
- Unlike other versions of Chess we can play, your 6 cards are put into your deck and can help you out!
Discuss this Week's Brawl
Head on over to the discussion thread on our forums for this week's brawl.
Lol I won using Grand Archivist into Sacrificial Pact. Best match of my life XD
Has anyone tried Wailing Soul yet?
i did, good for a powerplay, but you'll lose a bit of tempo
Gorehowl is cheat feelsgoodman :))
I found Sir Finley Mrrgglton to be of some help in this brawl.
got him in hand on my first match, rolled hunter, won match, would recommend
imagine, inner fire banned in upcoming brawls.
if only.
Polymorph Boar was helpful, not a brawl I want to keep playing though.
I'll take things that don't work for 800, Alex.
Drakkari Enchanter - I thought I was clever. Auto-Attack is not considered an 'end of turn effect'.
Kel'Thuzad - Since auto-attack comes AT the end of the turn and not before it, nothing gets revived.
Lady in White - Read the cards, stupid. (Me, not anyone else.) It clearly says the auto-attack values are set, not based upon attack power.
Here's what DID work.
Yeah like Lady in White, I stupidly tried Prince Keleseth...though I've seen a few other people do the same thing so I don't feel quite so dumb.
I tried the same with Druid buffs. Was going to abandon the idea, but then I remembered Wailing Soul exists...
Try this! (edit: I already typed a full guide, but it's pretty simple really)
While the brawl is just meh. I would really like the auto-attack key word to be featured in future sets. I think it could open up some really interesting board dynamics, especially if they play with what the minion attacks (like lowest health enemy minion)
We already have a minion like that, its a warrior minion from Witchwood 4/4 which attacks a random enemy at the end of turn.
Can't remember the name..
It's a similar mechanic but not exactly. The "auto-attack" feature deals damage to the minion(s) ahead of it, or to face if it's not blocked, and the minion auto-attacking takes no damage.
The Kobold Barbarian performs a normal attack at the start of your turn, with a randomly chosen enemy target. So it takes damage, any lifesteal effects from what it hits are triggered, etc. I'd say Blackhowl Gunspire is almost closer to the auto-attack key word than the Barbarian.
And really... how much better would Gunspire be if it had the "Auto-Attack" function instead of the current mechanic?!?!
I mean if it add the auto-attack function of deal three damage to the enemy opposite - it would be fairly strong (because it wouldn't lose health like Kobold Barbarian, potentially do 6 damage. And would lead to interesting board positioning decisions - a severely under-developed aspect of HS.
I have been using my own Void Ripper + Wailing Soul deck to OTK a lot of people in the brawl. It has been pretty fun, especially because no one sees the burst coming. http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/1132156-voidripper-tavern-brawl
Similar idea as mine:
problem with ideas? trash brawl
#haters gonna hate
The tavern brawls get worse every freaking week.
Playing cards that give your chess pieces attack buffs don't seem to work. They still attack for the damage stated on their cards. Don't know if things like Pint-Size Potion or Curse of Weakness affect your opponents.
