I want a return to expansion... return to Ungoro, return to gadgetzahn, or return to the fzn throne are my top three picks

Edit: just saw that you played during MSG. There are almost no deck archetypes left in wild from back then and the ones that are need significant updates from later released sets. Pirate warrior is probably the least changed but its tier 3 at best ATM.

Tldr if you played during year of the mammoth play wild if you left before frozen throne buy scholomance

The cards from last year were super op rise of shadows saviors of uldum decent of dragons but they are only going to be standard for another 5 or 6 months. Ashes of Outland was a decent set in hs history but underpowered in comparison to those 3 and scholomance seems the most op. 

Depending on what your collection looks like you could try wild instead of standard, if you were playing during frozen throne or kobolds its probably where u should start.  cube lock and secret mage, quest mage, reno priest, almost any druid deck are still great from back then with a few fairly cheap updates. But if you missed kft or k&c you should probably just buy scholomance.

I am an aggro player mostly in wild. generally my favorite deck is pirate warrior with burn shaman as a close second. The current disco lock and mech hunter are also in my top fun decks. 

I finally realized why this is the case. The aggro v aggro mirror is so fast, so intense, and so skill testing it just does not get any better. You have to identify  every turn if you are the control or the beat down and it switches multiple times per game, you have to identify  what the opponent  is trying to set up for on a turn by turn basis and then set up to counter it. I just lost a close match against odd demon hunter followed by a win in a close match against mech hunter. both games were incredibly exciting and interesting and almost every turn had 5 or 6 major decision  points. (Games were at Diamond 6 btw)

It's literally the only playable deck. So every game is just a coin flip on who drew more pogo vs the loser randomly drawing 1 or 2 non pogo cards

You remember when blizzard used to give free stuff as an apology for them messing up? It's interesting how now they screw up so much that they can't afford to do that anymore. Anyway, I really like the game still, and I used to actually spend $, but I am F2P btw now until the smol indie gam compony gets there act together.

I have pre-ordered every expac since ungoro, but the game is so buggy and unstable now it's virtually unplayable. I am not spending $ for a broken game

Odd paladins strength is it's consistentcy. But because of that it is EZ to counter, and to play around it. I have 60% win rate against it with pirate Warrior which is supposed to be a bad match up for me. I just know when to trade and when to go face. It's fundamentals. If you really hate losing to it most druid shaman and warrior decks shut it down. And cyclone mage is good against it. I honestly don't know how the deck is teir 1. 

Super sad Reno was not a neutral. They should have added a new person to the team.

With all this things pointed out so far I bet my guts it's Thunder King Isle expansion! The Lightning is Ley Shen 101%.

Single player adventure will be Isle of Giants or Timeless Isle if they follow the theme.

Hillander has a point, but control vs control is not as glorious as it used to be, thanks to many random card generations and discovers. I still enjoy a lot more the control mirrors, but I think aggro mirrors have more impactful decision makings. You need to calculate if its wiser to trade or going face, and the ability to do so could make you a good or bad aggro player.

BTW, I miss the good old days, when control vs control was about maximizing every single bit of value and playing around what the opponent has, but now its all about generated cards and random value, so quite often its more about randomness than strategy.
