 The 2 cost? I think it's very efficient at slowing the opponent down and giving you early plays vs an aggressive deck. Very good for control if you draw it early. Only issue is that it could be highly problem matic late game for control. Conversely it's great for aggro priest late game for a hand reload an to burn up some oppopnent's cards.

It’s a nice unintended perk. But still reflects the poor management of Blizzard. 

honestly, a bug that went well ;) if you play for the packs it gives you something to wait and come back for, if you are f2p then it even better - O can easily imagine a lot of people don't know that you get legendary within first 10 pack which they  will probably easily get (with this "bug") and make a lot of people happier

When I first saw I got Scholomance packs, I was impressed, I thought it was a great change. It was odd it wasn't announced. I hope they keep this for the future as it makes season 4 of an expansion more bearable to grind. Each expansion is still a seasonal reward for 4 seasons going forward, but now it front-loads a seasons worth of packs for the player to open on day 1.

It's definitely worth having the new packs, but they are also giving the player seasonal rewards they can't open. They did this with Tavern Brawls. The natural urge is to be able to open the pack immediately, especially if the player has a low collection and wants cards to open up access to the game. If this is to continue the expansions should be released earlier in the month to reduce the wait time. We haven't had a late month release since WotOG, which would have meant 26! days before you can open your seasonal reward packs. The latest we have gotten in more recent HS times is the 2nd week of the month, which isn't too late. If this was truly a pure accident, we really lucked out with only having to wait 6 days to open packs with SA. Only 2 other expansions have released earlier than the 6th in their respective months.

If I knew we would be getting Scholomance packs I would've ranked for the 5 pack reward. Still happy to get 3 instead

Aside from the UI elements, I think Blizzard could have just rolled with the "Surprise!"-version, and (almost) nobody would have said anything. I actually thought the Scholomance packs were a cool, last minute idea of some dev to hand out some promo packs before the expansion launches.

Even if you were planning on getting AoO packs, you can spend the gold on AoO that you just saved with free SA packs, and to those people who are done with AoO (by their own definition), this is the nicer reward.

As far as I'm concerned, they might as well keep it that way moving forward. Raises motivation for the last season before a new expansion.

WTF are you even whining about? They did you an unintended favor by giving you most recent expansion as opposed to a worthless stale one you already have most of the cards from, and then they did you another favor by letting you keep those packs after they realized their mistake.

 They are giving free packs for it. Ironic that you call them greedy for trying to run a business but in the same breath throw your toys out the pram for not getting more free stuff. Nothing like a little hypocrisy to undermine yourself.
