I know the future is unknown, and no one is a fortune tell, but I do wonder what Blizzard is going to do with their game long term. I think they put very little effort into Hearthstone, and there are a few reasons behind it.
One: Blizzard name carries their games, and they have a loyal fan base. Their games are very polished, and has a lot of charm built into them.
Because of this, Blizzard can sit back and just release new set of cards very three months, and Hearthstone keeps making them money.
Two: There are no "real" competitors on the market, and Blizzard does not have to worry about losing a lot of players etc.
The game has been out since 2014, and they have added how many new modes to the game? Hell, they stopped making Adventures which at least were a good idea for the game. They still kinda of have them, but it's not the same to me over all. Blizzard wants packs to be sold for max profits (like any company would do really).
But, later this year we will see Artifact hit the market, and Valve will be support large prize pools for their tournaments. I can see more than a few pro HS streamers jumping ship, and moving over to Artifact once the game is out later this year. If Artifact has little to no RNG, the true card pros will eat this up, and leave Blizzard's casual market card game I think.
I could be wrong, and I really hope Blizzard puts more effort into their game this year, and going forward. But, I'm not sure if that's going to happen until their bank accounts are affected by other games on the market.
At least we have a Tournament mode coming to Hearthstone, but it will be very basic at launch tho sigh
What are your thoughts on Hearthstone's future? Good or more of the same in 2018?
if hearthstone ever will die it will probably be because lack of content
look at starcraft and diablo 3 they barely do anything for those games and they are considered dead games while overwatch, wow, hots and hearthstone keep on going because new things get added frequently
That's a good point. I had high hopes for Diablo 3, but the game was lacking in so many areas, and that's sad. It's almost like Blizzard does not know how to make StarCraft and Diablo games anymore
Diablo3 was the first big fail of Blizzard, before that their games had always been top quality under every aspects. But you're right: HS developing has been lazy since it's beginning probably because there were never any kind of competitors on the market that could have taken the supremacy. The coming of Artifact (and its Valve's support) will probably be the first major threat to HS and I really hope that this event will also bring some good and long awaited innovation also here, otherwise the game will probably loose tons of its playerbase because streamers and pros will move where skill is rewarded (less RNG) and big tournament with high prizes are stationed (like in DotA).
RNG is always going to be a part of any TCG. In fact, online card games actually have less RNG than the paper ones, mainly due to the shuffling of cards, dents in cards and other things that effect proper deck draw. So, i don't think there is ever going to be a TCG in existence that has no RNG. that is a pipe dream, mainly because RNG is a natual part of any TCG and it always will be. like, what do you want? you want them to just give you the proper hand every game? you wnt them to hand out free wins? like seriously. Hearthstone is actually pretty decent when it comes to RNG. like, opening 5 legendaries for $80 is pretty decent. You can spend that same amount on MTG cards and never see a single good card. like sure you will get rares and ultra rares, but you will hardly ever get anything that is remotely decent. In hearthstone you basically get a decent card every pack.
In fact, the only thing wrong with this game seems to be the negative toxic player base that make others want to kill themselves. If you are not happy with this game, please just quit. leave. go away. be gone. adios, saiyonara, avoir. you are ruining the game with your depressing nonsensical attitudes, with your raging friend requests and borderline criminally harrasing pms. JUST LEAVE! YOU WON'T BE MISSED.
I think Blizzard improved HS a lot since the beginning ( spec mode , tavern brawl, somewhat frequent changes/nerfs , singleplayer advantures,) ,and soon we get a Tournament mode.
It’s very slow, and HS is more expensive than the competition , but I doubt Artifact or whatever Cardgame will rise have a chance over a longer period of time. It’s impossible to please everyone. At first people will be hyped because everything is new, but then some people want this some that. Overall I think Blizzard is very experienced in what they do, and they know that only quality and fun ( although the rng factor limits the competitive aspect) is what keeps players playing.
I can't see Blizzard falling behind to Valve, especially if you consider that Valve has become incredibly lazy with their games in recent years. Hearthstone will be around for a long time.
I give it two more years, including this one. If the devs can get over their massive ego and abandon pet classes and pet ideas and acknowledge mistakes(looking at you Dean and Mike, yes I used your names, not sorry and I'd do it again) then perhaps longer. Mistakes include things like the Jade mechanic, Patches the Pirate (they waited until rotation to nerf, so no true acknowledgment there.), and the Deathknights.
I feel like Hearthstone has to undergo a massive change, like Hearthstone 2.0 (similar to Heroes of the Storm 2.0). Once it does, and understands that it will lose some tens of millions of players to other games that are released, the future will be safe. It will make a 10 year anniversary.
The only thing we are going to get is more of the same. Half-baked ideas, poorly tested cards, devs that ignore reality for as long as they can and fanboys that eat it all up. Hearthstone isn't on a decline, it's the same as it always was. For everyone saying they are going to quit there are 5 that say "well maybe we should wait for the next rotation to see if this clearly broken card can be dealt with without a nerf" and then they push it back a couple more months and then make a change that doesn't actually do much. Blizzard is lazy as shit, they just disguise it as "being careful".
You think hero cards were a mistake? I think they are a fun new addition to the game
For the most part they are, but the most fun ones are only fringe valuable. The main culprit is the warlock DK (and priest before raza nerf). Whoever thought giving them that battlecry AND such an absurdly powerful hero power should be fired and never be allowed to work in game development again.

What broken cards? You scrubs keep whining about it being unfair and I'm just sitting over here climbing ladder as F2P with whatever I feel like playing
The problem is you. If you lose 70% of your games, the thing in common is the person piloting the deck.
Let me think of cards you might think are broken.
Patches: not at all. It's definitely a good card but come on, if you lose the game because your opponent got an extra 1/1 on turn 1 then you're a bad.
Prenerf rogue quest: Number one it relies on RNG to even complete the quest, number two if you gain the advantage before they can or if you just save AoE for when they start dropping shit you win.
Machinegun priest: again, kill them before they get to the point where they get their combo, or play around it. Psychic Scream is kinda gross but other than that it's fine.
Cubelock: run more silence, or just don't kill the cube. Ez.
You're right I agree for what you said. Blizzard has a bad thinking in terms of innovation they are very very conservative at this point even Eternal Card Game or Elder Scrolls: Legends didn't reach so far as HS. So I think in the future we could see more Card Games in genre like happen same to H1Z1 then people go to PUBG and now are on Fortnite. One Positive on HS is the flow, game is clear on terms of design it won't sicking when u're playing and audio is pretty fun but otherside after few games played you could understand is literally p2w and other classes has more resources than others and if Blizz don't change these feeling people will migrate for sure. All ppl waiting it's a competitive, fun, clear design, easy and fast card game without much RNG evolve and more skill. That is what I think will happen in the future. Nice topic btw thanks for sharing your opinion too it makes me happy think other ppl think same way.
Artifact? Really? The only ccg i tought that could beat hearthstone was mtg arena, after watching it on youtube I found it just as exciting as watching a 90 year old reading a book.
If the economy gets fixed Arena is going to dominate the market, right next to HS, but that is ONLY because it will be the only singleton online tcg. In other words, brawl is going to be implemented, which is for HS players basically a Reno deck mode with tons of possibilities, and it is going to build Arena its own place on the market.
Rng is why we are playing hs over mtg... Please stop trying to magicfy hs and go and play mtg. Oh yeah, mtg is expensive, hs isn't...
incoming commetns about people trying to say that hearthstone is super expensive
It isn't in theory, but in practice if you want to make legend, the path there is MUCH faster if you pay for packs than if you grind as a f2p player.
It isn't even in theory. HS isn't eve CLOSE to what mtg deck costs.
Good luck trying to build a T1 deck without spending over 100, sometimes 200, USD per standard deck. Modern decks? Easily over 1000$ per deck. Legacy decks? We're in thousands of dollars here. Vintage? Easily over 30,000$ per deck. OPTIMIZED, actually good, commander decks? Several hundred dollars. Competitive commander deck? Over 1000$.

For what profit is it to a man, if he gains the world and loses his own soul?
How long do you expect them to maintain? I thought I read somewhere that the plan was ten more years.
Judging by the last two expansions, no. If they can go back to the quality of Ungoro and KOTFT then maybe it will look better.
RNG is always going to be a part of any TCG. Artifact is the first game from a big competitor like Valve. They know it and they better not fuck up
I think Blizzard improved HS a lot since the beginning ( spec mode , tavern brawl, somewhat frequent changes/nerfs , singleplayer advantures,) ,and soon we get a Tournament mode.

Free to try and find a game, dealing cards for sorrow, cards for pain.
