Which is that within a year a number of frustrations and annoyances that just have to be dealt with as part of the game, Uhhh, its like, a year from now this game will be superior on every level, you'll be able to report people, the viable card pool will be so much bigger it won't just be druids and paladins and mages. Unlike WoW though getting on the ground floor of this game gives you a big advantage of cards.
What I'm trying to say is I have extremely low motivation to play this game right now. Right now, we're just in a weird proto-meta that is based upon a relatively small card base. We're mostly using cards because they are the best option we have and there's nothing else. Like, the whole thing of secret paladins and Dr. boom, that's just a proto-meta that we are all playing around that in a year will be a stupid joke. The issue is that we're adapting and playing to stuff that's just...dumb, and its not going to have any relevance. Basically the whole meta is just wankery that's gonna change so fast that we're learning lessons that are worthless.
Like right now we play in a world where Warrior, the guy who's supposed to charge in and be RAWR, can only play control, Shaman and Rogue are terrible, and really only Druid and Paladin and Mage are any good. It's a great game and I'm going to keep collecting the cards but thats it, playing ranked right now is a joke, and I am 99% positive all that crap is going to change permanently.
Right now the only reason to play is collecting the cards, ranked play is skewed and obviously incomplete.
I'm getting a weird vibe as well. What is the point of this thread? I'm glad to see that you are enjoying the game (and that this isn't a salt thread as far as I can tell) and that you have high hopes for the future. You can play Hearthstone in a few ways, if you don't like the competitive ranked you can still enjoy brawls, Arena, Adventure or just plain card collection. I hope that you will continue to enjoy Hearthstone, maybe one day you would like to try for legend.

If you look closely, you can see this is a signature and not a comment. Why are you reading? Stop reading this. Did you read this too? Dang you must like reading.
Essentially you're saying that the game is immature compared t many other popular collectible card games due a small card pool.
But how exactly it makes us just play cards because they're just best we have? There are already way more cards that I would like to put onto my deck than it can hold.
Also things we learn are useful even after years of new cards. We have leg-up by memorizing most of the cards as they come out.
I find enjoyment in just learning things itself, regardless of it's constant change. Learning and adapting to an ever changing metagame is a big part of what makes Hearthstone fun for me and the fact that everything is always changing means there's always more to learn.
As for Rogue, I'm fairly certain that there's a list with Unearthed Raptor with the potential to be absurdly powerful but it hasn't been found yet. Shaman is also a lot better than before with Tunnel Trogg. My point is, Blizzard is aware of the weakness of these classes and is trying to fix them.
(specifically in the case of rogue, a large part of the reason they haven't been getting good cards for existing archetypes is because Rogue is one of those classes that if it gets a new powerful spell or burst tool can easily break the game. Look at what happened with Miracle. That's why Blizzard has instead taken the approach of giving Rogue new cards for non-existant archetypes like Trade Prince Gallywix, Dark Iron Skulker and Unearthed Raptor.)
i wish there was a bigger card pool, but the game is "fairly new" and the fact that it is a virtual card game makes it more difficult to release new expansions. because apart from thinking about the game you have to actually code it.

the problem with that to me, is that the "old archetypes" kind of have the rogue stamp on them. prince and unearth raptor could be neutral cards and i would never be like "why isnt this rogue?" the cards they're getting now are just pretty generic imo. (as in they dont really scream "rogue" to me)

Game designers have to prioritize making the game actually playable over making neat flavor for stuff unfortunately.
I think this "small card pool" thing is completely misguided. (I am considering here that you mean to say there is a small viable card pool, otherwise it is not even close to a fair criticism.) Many players get too stuck to netdecking and tournament decks, and lose sight of the amazing possibilities HS has.
HS is an incredibly well balanced game, meaning that with some few exceptions, all cards are more or less the same power. Of course some option will always be the best, but the others are not so far behind. If you want to always play with the best cards, then your deck will always be Shredder, Boom, etc., but the great thing of HS is that if you don't want just to use the best cards (or doesn't have them), your decks will still be completely viable. (This doesn't even have to be for fun, but also for a surprise factor.)
I'm currently laddering with my version of Patron warrior that uses Obsidian Destroyer instead of Dr. Boom, and I almost every game match against Dr. Balanced, and still I win around 66% of the time (I'm between ranks 5-10 right now). Just try to make a (good) deck that is not Secret paladin or CW and you'll see that if you built it well, you can still ladder it very far.
"The only reason to play right now is to collect the cards" I would never spend money on digital cards to collect them. I play the game so I can play with my friends and play ranked. I would never "collect" a DIGITAL card game. Save collecting for magic and physical card games.

Have you ever played any other tcg? the Meta is always dominated by 2 or 3 decks that make a bunch of other decks tremble in fear or seem way too weak in comparison, without counting HS the most "varied" i've seen in other tcgs is 5 dominant decks that can compete against and between themselves but that flat out kill other decks with little to no effort even though the later may be decks that were dominant in the past, fortunately HS isn't completely like that since there are some "rogue decks (not part of the meta)" that can thrive and compete, the game definitely isn't in a proto-meta it will keep rotating between a fixed number of dominant decks as it happens to every other tcgs, the trick is finding a spot where all dominant decks are of different playstyles and not just everyone playing the same type of deck and strategy to win, that's why most of the community was so bored of the game before reno jackson, the only viable thing was aggro and that's a pretty bad msitake in a tcg.

Depends how they handle it the cards stay viable or not.
Yu-Gi-Oh! for example has some great synergies that re-vitalize the old cards.
Hearthstone does something similar with discover etc gameplay mechanics.
