I have spent a total of $120 that has giving me Naxx and a large amount of cards. I just started playing a month ago, so i did not have the opportunity to grind gold since beta. I think i am at the point where i can have fun and effectively grind gold without buying more packs. The initial investment was a bit high compared to games like WOW, but after factoring in the monthly price the $120 investment does not look that bad if i'm still playing six months from now.
I've been playing since beta so about 13 months now, I initially spent 100$ on packs back then, which compared to the rest of the playerbase at the time gave me a card advantage over almost everyone. Over the next 6 months I maybe spent another 25 on arena entries, 25$ on naxx,
and 70$ on GvG packs just recently. To me, for a game i've played likely over a thousand hours, and will likely continue to play for at least another 6 months. 220$ seems like a great investment
I think I dropped 130€ on HS... yeah.. already kinda too much. But I play it since beta, I had a few breaks but otherwise on daily basis, at least 1-2 hours a day so it's probably not that horrible all things considered. But I'll try to leave it with that and grind coins for the next expansions.
Been playing since Beta and purchased one pack to get Golden Gelbin and purchased Naxx. I have been pretty good at Arena so I have not felt the need to buy anything extra. I had over 8k in gold and 6k in dust when GvG launched so I just bought some packs with gold and crafted the Legendaries that I wanted.
$430 when the game first released on Classic. I've not spent a dime since that time as the game is actually pretty terrible from a game play perspective. The games are pretty much decided on matchup and the opening hand.
Just not enough depth in the mechanics for you to really consider it a hobby. It's a tiny little mobile game that will always be without any deep, real mechanics. It's unfortunate I had to spend so much to find out.
I entirely disagree, watch any popular streamer play, or watch a tournament, and pretty much everything you do is either a good move or a bad move. Although some games you do get heavily shafted it seems..
£20 on Naxx and perhaps £90 on Arena over the past 7 months.
I've never bought raw boosters although I have been sorely tempted since GvG was released as I am missing some commons and rares still (I refuse to craft below Epic rarity).
For a few months I was infinite in Arena but as the average player has improved this is no longer quite the case.

I disagree with you. Although the drawing luck and your opening hand do contribute to your results, there are a lot of strategic factors that also determine victory. Here are a few in no particular order:
Deck construction: Your choice of cards lead to both the specific strategies of your deck (e.g. aggro, combo, midrange, etc.) as well as the consistency of your deck. Are your card choices synergistic?
Understanding the Meta: In ranked play, understanding the meta of your rank is vitally important, particularly to #1.
Mana use: Do you use your mana efficiently each turn? This can also be aided by solid deck construction.
Order of card play: Because of battlecrys and deathrattles, it's important to play your cards in the correct order.
Trading: Do you trade efficiently? This also is a corollary to #4 as well as a fruit of deck construction and the meta.
Decisions to attack face or minions: Depending on board situation, your hand, and what you think your opponent has in his hand, can make one choice better than the other. Even with Face Hunters and other aggro decks, careful decisions need to be made whether or not to hit the face or take out a minion. BTW, this also involves understanding the meta and the types of plays your opponent can make.
Choice of hero: Deciding what hero you will play gives you a variety of strategic choices, only made richer by the new expansion and future expansions.
Mulligan choices: Choosing what to throw back and what to keep. Do you keep your Holy Nova because you know you are playing against aggro Zoo? Do you keep the Black Knight because you know you are facing handlock?
These are a just a couple quick ones I came up with. There's a reason that the top players always tend to be the top players, and it's not because they grind for hours on end or have been playing since beta and have all of the legendaries. It's because they understand the strategies listed above and more and play better moves more consistently than players who aren't as good. If it weren't a good game, then the top players would always flip flop - e.g. it's not blackjack, but I think more akin to poker - although with any given game, luck plays a factor, over many games the better players will win more.
Waaay too much. :P I've bought tons of boosters just for dust to craft golden legendaries. So shiny!
Ugh this, I had 11k dust and my dis enchant button is at 11k when GvG came out, spent 70$ on packs, crafted 3 gold legends, now it's either buy more packs or press the big button which I don't want to do for efficiency reasons down the line the struggle is real!

825 $ USD, after gvg dropped... specifically 225 on GvG

Been playing like 5 months, $25 on Naxx. I don't expect to pay any more until they release another set in that same format.
I really want Pirates to be a playable theme.
I've spent probably $300.
Expensive if you look at it as a video game. Cheap if you look at it as a hobby.
Feel free to add me if you play on NA! iMPose#1429
125€ so far. Been playing since beta.
Naxx for 25$, and about 100$ on GvG. Worth it though !
