Golden heroes are the rewards players get for achieving 500 wins in the Ranked Play mode with each specific class. They are purely cosmetic and are meant as a testament of the effort and time you have invested into playing a specific class. I got all 9 Golden heroes after roughly 4 years of casually playing.
I was going through my stats lately and I noticed that my character had ~800 wins on Arena. Undoubtedly, these wins span all over 9 classes and I can't back-track them accurately. However it dawned on me: these wins if they were to count towards the total win count of the Golden heroes, it would have made my progress towards the Goldenization even greater. I know that there is a great percentage of active players that prefer playing Arena over Constructed, and I think the way the Golden Progress is set up, deprives them of the ability to show off their efforts.
Given the fact that the Heroes are only cosmetic and do not affect actual gameplay, I honestly can't think of a reason not to implement a change that includes Ranked and Arena wins both. After all, you already level up your hero in Arena the same way as in Constructed, and one cannot claim that the skill level of Arena is way lower than Ranked: they are two different playing modes, but each requires knowledge of deck building, board strategies, maximizing value against opponents, reading enemy plays and tactics and so on.
What are your two cents on this? Is there a reason this should not change? Feel free to share yours
P.S. I know it might look pointless to some of you, but like it or not, Golden heroes are motivators for some people, the same way high ranks, or full collections are to others

Never BM. Unless they BM you first. Then you always BM.
You cant make it more easy to get them now people have a lot of golden heroes. Maybe add another cosmetik like a silver portrait or something which could be combined with the gold one if you have both.

But is it really making it easier? You would still need to invest a considerable amount of time towards your goal, which is -in the end- their intent.
I am not sure how I would feel if they introduced a new Hero flair for Arena only. Given that the mode requires an entry fee, I believe more rage would come out this than appreciation ( out of the player base).

Well, yes, it would be nice if arena wins would count towards this. Not only would that be a bonus for all the arena players like me (i have just two golden heroes), but it would incentivize you to pick different classes than the top ones to play with.
But i very much doubt this will ever happen, since the golden heroes r a reward for ranked play, and to win in ranked you need good cards ... so what are you goin to do? Buy packs. Yup, that is the only reason, to sell packs. Why would Blizzard give us a different way to obtain golden heroes without spending a dime? Oh, silly you ... obviously you dont actually have to spend money, but i hope you get the point im trying to make ;-)
I have 2851 total wins in arena, I'm still missing four golden heroes (Valeera, Rexxar, Thrall and Anduin) and I'm not complaining bro...
It is not complaining bro, I am simply making an observation. I even stated that above, it might not matter to you but it does matter to some. And by all accounts it looks like this is not something that would insert any costs to them or major structural changes.

Well, I see your point! But to be honest, I do not want to believe that Blizzard would be greedy even down to this detail. I mean they can stretch a lot more things instead of this. After the changes for duplicate legendaries and extra gold from quests, if they were actually overreaching on this...well, it just looks bad

There is an easy argument to be made: "We just want players playing ranked to feel like they have a special reward for their effort. Arena players already get above average rewards, more than a Ranked system can offer." blablabla :) They can spin this forever, i do not hold my breath in this regard :) Also another factor ... they make the alternative hero skins even more appealing, since they come in golden (=more moneys; or time spent playin ranked=more incentive to buy packs=more moneys). It will always lead back to this :) Its small things that add up.
Yeah I thought about that a lot of times and it would really help people out. But Blizzard won't do it, if you want your 500 wins you have to grind that ladder with top meta decks (dust power yeah) or take it slow xD
I'm not sure about how it fits now, but the original purpose of the golden portraits was specifically to encourage Ranked play. It was meant to be a way to draw people into playing Ranked matches. That's why Ranked is the only mode that counts.
As far as whether that's still needed now or if we can just change it to affects all modes *shrug*. I don't know. I do know that if you make the change and don't grandfather everyone's games you're going to piss off a LOT of people for pretty much no real gain.
That's true. Potentially it could do more harm than good in terms of audience reaction. I was just abstractly thinking it could help the casual/all-around player experience.
Cheers for the insights guys

It's the phrase "it works perfectly until you add humans to the equation." It's silly (since it's like saying an umbrella works well until it rains) but it's a good reminder that humans are more complicated in how they handle things than simple math or logic allows.
For example, it actually makes logical sense to allow for wild and standard ladders to have separate rewards. People who play only on one ladder will get the same benefit, while those who play both get double rewards. No negatives and some positives. So it technically makes sense to do that...
...if you don't include emotional levels. Many people focus on trying to obtain all of the rewards the game offers in order to keep up with the expansion demands. In particular are those F2P grinders. Setting a new requirement for a new reward ALSO means another task for grinders. Which means separate ladders means telling people "you NEED to play Wild AND Standard or you are missing out." Which, if you want to focus on one ladder or hate one of the formats, isn't a positive thing.
Then you get to the risk of 'overplaying': having people play more than they should and burning them out. People WILL play the fun out of a game, including pushing both ladders until they get sick of the game and leave. Even though we can accept getting one reward from one ladder now, we WON'T be content if the option for more exists.
Thus a situation which is logically beneficial but is actually a major negative.
The golden portrait thing is similar I think though not as dramatic.
