Pretty amazing, sounds like exactly the late game threat that pirate decks needed. Obviously, he's hit by BGH and even Flamestrike, but he should be an auto-include if you are making a pirate deck.

He's removal bait? Great! That means you won't be focusing on the Southsea Captain that's buffing the other pirates, or figuring out how to stop the buffed up One-eyed Cheat who just turned invisible. This guy is the perfect threat to act as a distraction for the other pirates either on the board or about to come out.
He doesn't need to be a great card to get the job done. He needs to be the brawn who lets the brains do their thing behind him.

Yes, thank you. If you're playing I pirate deck and are in the position to play this onto an empty board, you've already lost. It's likely this guy will come into play with +1/+1, or behind the taunt pirate, or whatever other shenanigans are coming with GvG. On turn 5, btw. So suppose you're first and play this with other pirates on your side of the board. You're against a mage, who responds with frostbolt and hero power or fireball. First of all, okay not the worst trade ever, there goes tempo and removal. Second of all, great, those other pirates you already had out went untargeted!
Being a pirate, and thus being included in pirate decks, doesn't entirely negate this thing being 4 health for 5 mana, and you may be right that it's a piece of junk not worth the investment, but it's certainly better than solo Stalagg. It's a removal target, it synergizes with other pirates, and it's a big new threat for decks that may have a tendency to die out too quickly given what looks to (maybe) be a slower meta come GvG.
Yup, I agree. He is a very nice Turn 5 drop for putting pressure on and I have finished off a lot of games with him yelling "Let's get salty!"
A good run is like
Turn 1 Buccaneer, Turn 2 HP (Rogue), swing for 4, Turn 3 Dread Captain, swing for 4, Turn 4 Ships Cannon/the coin/Southsea Deckhand/HP swing for 11, on turn 5 opponent is bailing out major water at 11 life and you drop in a 7/4 on top of it all. Sometimes people just concede immediately. So I think Dog has a nice psychological component too.

Yeah, I love pirate decks, play one even though it isn't hugely reliable.
But this...well, pretty expensive for something so easily removed. At least the Dunemaul can have massive payoff if he survives. This guy hits for 7.
I guess we'll have to see what other pirate cards come.
Reynad's favorite card.

If Reynad was a card, he would be this guy.
You know how we said that Stalagg was a bad card that only was played because of Feugen and Thad?
Well we now have standalone Stalagg in a deck that's suited for rushing and made sure it had no staying power or rushing ability.
Yeah.. bad card is bad, even in pirate.
One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.
I see this paired with charge in a warrior pirate deck. Charge has other good targets in such deck, like the pirate that gains the weapon attack.

if only this was a 4/7 instead of a 7/4....

Why
Why would you necro this thread?
Just go itno the card itself, they have a whole comment section for each card.
I returned to this game much like how a recovering alcoholic can relapse.
Read there was a new card.
Disappointed.
