I find elementals to be very easy to play and they often curve into one another. Elemental decks can often play a fast tempo game or a value oriented slower style. I like this card because the spells you generate off of it are going to determine the direction of the game. If you get Fireballs and direct damage spells you will try to end the game earlier. If you get defensive secrets you will play more for the late game relying on DK Jaina as your win condition. I think this card will be played in a more minion heavy deck.
If elemental mage gets even more support (or next year when all the damn jades and patches rotate), this card will see some serious play it's a 3 mana discount on cabalist tome on that deck.
I've been experimenting with an elemental mage deck recently that runs a lot of elementals, and I would put this in here. Most of the time I think I could make it a cabalist tome for 2. This isn't enough to push elemental mage above jade druid on its own, but I'm pretty optimistic for this card.
Well, now that we got Arcane Artificer, elemental Mage is looking even better. We used to play Fire Fly to get ready for next turn's elemental, but now we also have Arcane Artificer for those time (around 3 to 6 mana) were you need to fire up a spell, yet plan an elemental for next turn. Win, win, and likely fueling the ruby spellstone while at it. I think getting 3 spells out of Lesser Ruby Spellstone should be relatively easy.
How does this upgrade stuff work, do you get to play this and then play two elementals and get it back or do you have to play two elementals to get the upgrade (without playing the first form) and then two more to get the last upgrade (without the first or second form)?
To make my question more clear: If you play 4 elementals do you just play one version in a game or all three?
It has to be in your hand, and when it's in your hand and you play two elementals since it entered your hand, it will upgrade. Then you can play two more elementals to upgrade it again, so long as it stays in your hand.
In my view, Lesser Ruby Spellstoneis of little use. I would propose a different approach for it, with only two changes with respect to the original card (see attached images):
- Instead of generating up to 3 random mage' spells, now it "generates" up to 3 random spells that you've already cast over the game, which in addition to being a new effect for mages (we already have a card that generates 3 random mage spells), it also eliminates any chances of getting useless shit cards (you know what kind of cards I mean) by getting instead more useful cards (at least useful enough as for having cast them previously that game).
- And secondly, this card could finally be used in all kinds of mage's decks, because the current version can only be used in elemental mage's decks (which in comparison are still a minority). With that change, this card would be more useful in general (like the best of the other classes' spellstones).

More Mage BrokeBack RNG spells we can't play around. On the plus side elementals in mage are not that strong.

I dunno guys, is the variance worth even trying to make elementals work for it. Its great in arena though.
Glad I didn't DE my DK Jaina. Elemental Mage might be viable.
2 mana cabalist tome is great. Question is weather elemental mage is viable. Also do you need to play 2 elementals on the same turn?

Just the one version.

We talk "good RNG vs. bad RNG" till we're blue in the face and Blizzard just keeps pumping out the bad RNG.
suggest another usage of mage's quest--by adding more elemental cards to your deck; you can get the reward easier.
