People say you can play this card is ok because you can play it on turn 6 or 7 with your 1 drops.
Because hunter doesnt have ANY better options to play on 6 or 7.
**cough....savannah highmane...cough**
Savannah Highmane doesn't get me closer to cantrips attached to Raptor bodies, or a 5 mana 8/8 beast. This card does. So in that sense it's absolutely better than Savannah Highmane on 6 or 7.
And like I pointed out earlier, you can't play Savannah Highmane on 5. Whether Highmane is a better play on 6 is debatable, but without pulling some shenanigans you're always going to be able to play this guy sooner and put it into a slot that Hunter really doesn't have very good options in.
You cannot play carnassa on 5 unless you are going second, or unless hunter gets some 1 drops that draw cards, which is unlikely. Going first turn 4 you have only drawn a total of 6 cards, and assuming all are 1 drops, the bst case is to play this on turn 6. What is better, playing a 1 drop, a 2 drop, a 3 drop etc. all on curve then dropping a highmane, or playing nothing but 1 drops turns 1-4 and skipping ur 5th turn to play carnassa on 6.
Would Alley Cat not count as two, or is there a distinction between "play" and "summon" for these purposes?
Yeah difference between play and summon. Play is from the hand summon is through a spell or minion ability

Still waiting for everybody to change their vote to 'Meta-defining!' rofl. But seriously, now with those newly revealed cards I believe we can say this card will be less bad than most of us initially thought, and were not afraid of yelling too early.
Pretty much. The card went from "meh" to "WoW" after the last reveal. Hunter still needs a control card of some sort, taunt, heal or AoE to make the deck tier 1. So far it looks like a good Tier 2 deck. High Tier 2 but Low Tier 1.

I'm not talking about playing Carnassa on 5, I'm saying Tol'vir Warden is playable on turn 5 and Savannah is not. Which is why it's not really a correct analysis to say Savannah is strictly better, because on turn 5 without the coin Savannah is always just going to be a dead card in your hand. On top of that, if I haven't drawn my Highmane by that point then thinning my deck slightly increases the odds I do have it on curve.
The Quest and the new Raptor made this card go from playable on its own (which it was in my opionion, even being understatted) to absolutely auto-include. I hesitate to make call this meta defining, but it's very good overall.
