As a player who used to play Priest, I can tell you that this is one of the best kind of balanced 2-drop we can get. But how are Priests and mana crystals really related? Maybe it's just a Kabal crystal obsession.
Is this real 2 drop for priest? It require this minion get heal and then summon a 2/2 Crystal. if opponent can kill this minion, you get nothing. You need Wild Pyromancer to get it work.
Lol at the overreaction to this card. A 2/3 that does nothing is a terrible card, and what will it trade into and survive? 2 drops? Only if you power word shield it, otherwise it can only hit 1 drops and survive. Things that require multiple cards in hand to be effective otherwise terrible, is far from some broken card. Wasn't that beast druid card that copied a beast supposed to be insane? Yeah totally broke the game didn't it?
Also priest has been unplayable for seemingly forever, so it is good Blizzard is pushing the game to have 9 classes not 8.
Just asked Reynad on stream and he replied that this card is "much worse than a vanilla [2-mana] 2/4." Not sure if that actually makes the card bad or if a 2/4 would be THAT ridiculous in Priest.
EDIT: Reynad said this card is "average" and that most priest decks might not want 2-drops but the ones that do "may consider it".
Hmm, I have mixed feelings about this card. On one hand, if you can heal Mana Geode even once, the value is just insane. Like if you heal it with Lesser Heal, it's the paladin hero power on crack! Compare a 2 mana summon a 1/1 recruit effect to a 2 mana heal a minion for 1-2 and summon a 2/2 crystal. It's pretty crazy. If you heal it with Circle of Healing, you get a 0 mana 2/2 on top of all the healing. The card 'can' be insane. On the other hand though, it's not sticky at all. Most 2 drops trade into it, it doesn't kill Mana Wyrms or Tunnel Troggs, dies to early game weapons and removal....it's just not any stickier than any other 2/3 we have access to.
I've seen some people say how it synergizes with Power Word: Shield and Kabal Talonpriest. This is absolutely true. However, in another thread of mine discussing potential priest 2 drops, I've made the argument that Amani Berserker does very much the same thing. A 2/3 that if not dealt with, becomes a serious threat when it's health is buffed, much like Mana Geode. On top of that, Amani Berserker doesn't need to be healed to get it's benefit, it just needs to survive allowing you to spend your mana and resources elsewhere.
This is a good card. I just don't think it fulfills the role priests need when it comes to 2 drops which is being able to stick to the board. An awesome 2 drop like this doesn't do much to help the priest when played on T2 if it's immediately removed before it has a chance to get buffs and value. So, I voted playable. The card is really flashy but I'm not really sure how much of it we'll see.
All other two drops in the current metagme need, just like this card, something else to make them good. Sorcerors Apprentice, Cult Sorceror, Thalnos, Flametongue, Pyromancer.
There's a difference, though. Every single one of those cards you just mentioned can very easily do something on the turn they're played. None of them would be played very often if their effect didn't take effect until the next turn. It's extremely difficult and/or inefficient for this card to get any result whatsoever on the turn that it's played.
This is probably one of the hardest card to evaluate.
The effect is really powerful and a two mana vanilla 2/3 is already a fine investment (see Flame Juggler). But I get the feeling that it's highly meta dependent. Northshire Cleric used to be MVP but fell out of favor when a lot of 3/x's started showing up on turn 1 and turn 2. That's somewhat of an indication that the meta we have now isn't so friendly towards Geode either.
This might change and I do think that the effect is powerful enough that he might be worth running regardless. Just leaving him unchecked for a turn can quickly snowball, especially with all the health buffs that Priest now has access to.
It's a good solid 2-drop which Priest really needed. It's not over-the-top like some other 2-cost minions Blizzard has created. I don't understand the hype though. By itself it's just a River Crocolisk. Would have really been wonderful if the ability was Inspire-triggered or if it summoned another Mana Geode or even was reworded so that the ability worked if any minion was healed.
Not exactly sure what deck this would belong in but yes, this would be the Turn 2 and Turn 3 that Priest dreams of assuming that the Geode survives first.
Maybe if they give us back Velens. As it stands this card does NOTHING for Priest. Sorry. You won't play this in Dragon, Control, or Res. That leaves??? Unicorn?
I don't play any 2 attack 2 drops in general. Just too weak vs all those 1/3 minions that you NEED to contest.
I can't believe all the hype you folks are giving this lousy card. Just because it costs 2 mana doesnt mean it's gonna be good. See Shadowboxer, which was about 10x as good as this. Priest will have to again look to neutral 2 drops for quality.
JAYSUS! What the FUCK blizzard. I mean, we get it, Priest buff. But YEESH, think you might have gone a little overboard?

Shanking ankles since 2015.
The new priest meta is going to be annoying as fuck.

Seems ok.

bonkers
I know that this card isn't as good as some people think it will be, but at least Blizzard was generous enough to give priest some form of two drop.
Kabal Talonpriest is now infinitely better...

Turn 3 power shield, hit something and heal. Can be somewhat decent have to test it

The 2 drop we were asking for; it's finally here!!!!!!!

Dependable loan sharks since 1960. We sink our teeth into every deal we make.

This is total crap. Unplayable in resurrect and dragon, and does nothing to help control priest. I don't get the hype.
