Mage is good all around but it's not dominating. I think burn mage in particular is fun to play because the match ups are not highly polarized. I don't see a priest and instantly concede even though it's unfavorable for me, but likewise a token shaman can still snowball and beat me even though I pack a lot of AOE. And I personally don't run the extra pure RNG cards like babbling book because I hated casino mage and never want to go back to that. Discover is obviously still RNG but somewhat acceptable IMO.
Not sure why Blizzard tried to force the purely RNG archetype with quest mage but luckily no one plays that.
Ice Block is really annoying. I mean, it would be alright if it wasnt for mage ability to kill you with burst while having no board at all. But the fact that they can freeze, freeze again, prevent fatal damage, clear the board, alexstraza and then finishing me with double fireball frostbolt is just too much. Either one between Alexstraza and ice block should move to HoF. Maybe alexstraza would be better, cause i dusted a golden ice block and i dont want regret that xD
I don't know if Mage is too strong, but it is very very strong considering the variants of the class all use a lot of the same cards but play slightly differently enough to impact you as an opponent. Plus Arcanologist is great for card draw and Primordial Glyph great to search for answers.
Nah, I don't see mage as very oppressive when I face them on ladder, strong but not unbalanced.
They have a good selection of effective low plays, but I see that as an example to be followed and definitely preferable to cheese like innervated aggro druid boards.
I strongly disagree with all the ice block whine. You know it's there, it's not that hard to play around or plan for. And you're arguing as if you would face the same mage deck just without iceblock, that's utter nonsense.
Quote from RavenSunHP>>but they wouldn't feel like cheaters every time...
First of all im not gonna say that Ice Block isnt a bs card, but what im gonna say is that all good decks has some way of "cheating"
Tokenshaman- Doppelgangster + Evolve x3 the stats for its mana cost, Bloodlust needs set up but 5 mana if you have 5 minions deal 15 dmg to your opponent seems good
they can stall the game fucking hard thats the problem. thats why you lose except with armor warrior. but then again you need to get the cards that give enough armor, ancient shield bearer, shield block. mage loses most of the time against heavy aggro.
but mage is atm prbbly the best control class
It isn't even close at being the best control class, but it's very good against aggro while being reasonable versus other control decks.
It is pretty balanced I would say. Personally I dont like the dependency on random cards like glyph and toom but this way it stays pretty fair. With perfect draw and a bit of luck you can of course crush most other decks but the same can be said about most competitive decks.
Mayor Noggenfogger is way to expensive to be a tech against mage. Mage isn't to strong (best class in the moment, but worst best class in the history of herthstone) and iceblock wasn't a poblem for a long time. A simple, cheap anti secret card in the next expansion would be enough to end this topic
I know, still fun watching them burn themselves :D
My reaction to all posts like this is try a different deck if you're getting stuffed by a specific deck in your local meta. Mage is very strong. You know who else is? Literally every class not named "Warlock" currently in the meta. Tempo Mage is maybe a tier 1 deck now, but there are plenty of hard counters to it. Try running Priest for example. A single Greater Healing Potion in the deck tends to wreck Mage as they can never burst you down assuming you hold it/a copy off Shadow Visions until they Alex you. Typical turn progression is Turn 9+ they Alex me and pass, I play Greater Heal my Face, SW:D Alex, and some middling threat and they scoop.
I'm hating mage so much, even more than pirate warrior. At least those were quickier matches. Plus, so many mage player BM as fuck, with hello, oops and bullshit. WTF, I KILLED YOU TWICE, YOU ARE HERE ACTING LIKE AN ASSHOLE PURELY BECAUSE OF ICE BLOCK, ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS PLAYING ALEX FOLLOWED BY DOUBLE FIREBALL AND FROSTBOLT.
Ice block must rotate or be nerfed. Has literally no side effects, you play it no matter what as soon you have 3 spare mana to spend. At least if it gave community in any random turn instead of the turn that you should die, would require some thinking. Is my opponent gonna have lethal next turn? I'm gonna take a lot of damages that i want to prevent? Yes? Ok, i'd better cover myself.

As a Control Warlock main I constantly get Pyroblast, Fireball, Frostbolt, Frostbolt, Frostbolt (from Primordial Glyph) in the face so yea, fun, interactive and quite balanced imho.
Dude, then you just can play Mage and be legend easily, can't you?

This deck has been killing it for me lately. Works well against most decks I run across.
I quit playing mage for time being everyone is running eater of secrets now

Mage is not too strong. But it is definitely the most reactive class of the game, with all the value spells she can throw to either minions or face.
Now, Ice Block should EITHER absorb one lethal OR give invulnerability during the next opponent's turn.
NOT both at the same time.
The fact it does BOTH, give to the most reactive class of the game enough turns to burn you down, nearly carelessly of the board.
Indeed, look at any Mage out there: ice block is staple for ANY build whatsoever. And no wonder why!
Without ice block, some mages would still be annoying, but they wouldn't feel like cheaters every time...
And no. Don't try and say 'tech' or 'heal'. You all know how inefficient it is to tech against one freaking single class card.

#JeSuisFieryWarAxe!
I found a way to deal with Ice Block. Mayor Noggenfogger ! Ice Block is not activated on the Mages' Turn and once both Flamestrikes are gone there's a good chance he bursts himself to death with his own Fireball and Pyroblast. It was hilarious :D
Let's everyone agree to run eater of secrets in every deck we play until people stop playing iceblock or it's rotated out.

Balancing busted cards version 1.0.
IMHO pala is the strongest right now.
I will crush you!
