The HearthPwn Class Creation Competition Returns With Trials and Errors!
Update: We're extending this phase until Jan 23rd. Everyone who enters will move on to the next!
Greetings, card creators! We're back once again with our fifth Class Creation Competition - Trials and Errors! We've looked back at the previous competitions, taken the lessons we've learned from them and applied them here to hopefully give you guys your best ever competition. What does this mean? Well...
Longer Submission Phases
One of the common issues creators faced - exacerbated to the extreme in our Year Creation Competition - was a lack of time to complete their submissions, often feeling like they've put out rushed and unfinished work or not submitting at all. Our timetable this time is based on a suggestion from CheeseEtc - instead of lasting around half as long as the full Season, this competition will last the entire 20 weeks of the main Season. This does mean that we'll be far less likely to extend deadlines, but hopefully the increased submission windows will make this a non-issue.
More Freedom
One of the tricky things about running these competitions is that it's impossible to cater to everyone. In the last two CCCs, competitors were given extra challenges that they needed to meet the criteria on, beyond just creating the correct amount of cards. Some were silly and fairly trivial to do - some were not. While lots of competitors enjoyed this extra challenge as a means to get their creative juices flowing, others found them overly restrictive and an impedance to their vision for their class. As such, we've come to a compromise on the extra challenges - in Phase I, there will be no extra challenges that you must complete. From Phase II onwards, the three extra challenges will be added back in. Speaking of which...
Less Clutter
One of the sticking points of the last CCC was the 'Challenge Polls', in which we allowed you the competitors (as well as those merely spectating) to choose which three of six challenges you would have to abide by in the next phase. This was fun thematically, but a slog to get through and overall just an added annoyance for us to keep track of. As such, all challenges in future phases will be hand-picked by Shadows, with no extra Challenge Poll phase. This does mean that Shadows won't be competing, to avoid any bias, but not to worry - he is still finishing off those three expansions from the YCC.
Phase 1 Requirements - The Concept
Before you get to creating dozens of cards for your class, we want to hear your proposals. Here are the requirements for your Phase I Entry:
- The Class Name - No Death Knights, Monks, or Demon Hunters
- A Hero Portrait
- A Hero Power
- Up to five (5) example cards
- A unique keyword IF your class has one - it doesn't need to
- Ax explanation about the above.
If you want to take part please read the entire post linked here. We'd like to keep our disqualifications to a minimum.
You have until January 20th 23rd to submit your Class Concept in this thread, after which we will have three days of voting to see who goes on to Phase 2. All the details on how we've scheduled the competition can be found in the submission thread.
Good luck everyone! The extended submission date should give you guys some necessary breathing room.
Need help in formatting :( It seems like whenever I " Align Center" the image, it doesn't reflect when I save the changes. So what I did, I use the Increase Indent. Seemed fix in desktop, however, when I check it on mobile the images I indented is so small :(
Is it possible that you're highlighting the image, then click "Align Center"? If you are, then this is the problem. Instead of highlighting the image, move the text cursor (the blinking vertical line that tells you where you're typing) so it's next to the image, then click "Align Center".
Thanks! It worked now.. im so noob XD
For some reason, the site isn't letting me insert images into my post. A small box pops up instead of the image. Any idea what i'm doing wrong?
What are you attempting to post? Links directly from Hearthcards will not work, and attachments are a bad ideas; we always suggest that people host their cards on Imgur, and bring that link here. If you post the card's Imgur link, HearthPwn will transform that into an image of the card itself.
That is what i'm doing. I posted it, and is has a small placeholder image, but not the image itself.
Apologies for the late reply. I would say the issue then is that you are using the gallery link, and the not the links to the images themselves. You need to open them in a new tab and take those direct links; the link should have an i in the front of it. Something like "i.imgur.com/XXXX"
More importantly, the link should end with *.png or *.jpg to signify that it is a direct link to the image, not to a gallery.
Good luck to all as always, this will be a LOT of work :)
Im working on a journeyman class with a pandaren as main hero. Already submitted :-)))
Good luck to all competitors! Its gonna be amazing :—D
LOL. Brutal. Hope that you don't go into WoW jail or something.
Since I'm already seeing quite a few people make this mistake, I feel like I should point this out.
If you're not a regular around Fan Creations but are interested in joining for this competition, DON'T just post your Submission right away in the Submission Topic. Instead, you should post what you have so far in the Discussion Topic first, so you can get feedback about what you can change in your class to make it better, then submit it when you've finished all the details.
if I had the slightest clue how to do digital art I'd make it myself. sadly I don't have the first idea when it comes to this sort of this.
I'm sure one of the card creators here will make one though. everyone loves a necromancer.
PS: we could steal mechromancer from Bl2 as well. well the name at least anyway.
Edit: sorry, I didn't realize I had quoted you and messed up the chain.
create a class?
gotta be necromancer (although is this even in WoW?)
(how many classes do we have that we can use that are not already in HS?)
I heard that "tinkerer" is making it's way to WoW, so maybe this will filter down to HS as well?
Necromancer would be such a sexy WoW class. Quick, make it for Hearthstone so the uninspired WoW team can pick it up from the HS devs :D
I'm already on it: a Lich/Necromancer class with Kel'Thuzad as the hero character ;D
In WoW there's the Death Knight, the Monk and the Demon Hunter, if you want to know the classes without Hearthstone representation. It's rumored that the Tinker will arrive soon, but as cool as the Necromancer would be, I'm not sure it wouldn't step on Death Knight and Warlock design space. I'd rather get a cosmetic glyph to turn warlock's minions into undead, partially fulfilling the necromancer fantasy in the process.
