Update 1 PM EDT: Added more info from the official blog post.
The Boomsday Project is Hearthstone's Next Expansion
The second Hearthstone expansion for Year of the Raven has been announced and five new cards have been revealed.
- The expansion launches on August 7!
- New Keyword: Magnetic - Played by themselves or can attach to a Mech minion to add on their health, attack, and ability.
- Projects are new spell cards with extremely powerful effects, but they help both players.
- Omega Project - These cards are normal, but have a Battlecry that works when you have 10 Mana Crystals.
- There will be legendary spells, such as one that draws your entire deck!
- We're getting a new Warlock Hero - MECHA JARAXXUS!
- Warriors are getting a new Dr. Boom as a Legendary playable hero (at least that's what it appears to be in the video).
- Logging in after the expansion launches gives you 3 card packs and a random legendary minion from the set.

People find the best decks in magic within 2 weeks too. You're just not playing competitively enough to see the bad decks get weeded out.
Yes, the same for me. I buyed almost every pre-order and more. But without spending more money, the game is unplayable. For now I am stoping to spend more money in the game. I will probably stop even plaing 1 - 2 expansions later.
Finally, the Mechs are back! This is great, since I don't play Wild.
I fear mech mage in wild might resurface and that is a scary thought....
@mastertygon My thoughts exactly
Why is nobody disappointed on the fact that there is only 135 cards in this expansion, and they went from giving us 70 card packs for $50 for the Witchwood expansion pre-order to now these insanely over-priced card packs which you don’t even know what you’re gonna get from them, why can’t they just make you pay a set price and you unlock all the cards and don’t have to worry about having to open 40 more packs because you only got 2 legendaries for your pre-order bundle.
Couldn’t agree more, and surprised that this would be down voted even if someone thought you were complaining. The normal bundle is the same price with less packs. Yes, it does come with a Golden Legendary, however I would rather open 20 more packs. That is 20 more chances for other legendaries (potentially including golden) as well as other cards needed to fill the set.
If that Golden Legendary is something trashy, it can be DE’d for 1600 and turned into a few other cards to fill a set, but likely not as many as would be included in 20 extra packs.
Blizzard knows people will likely buy the Mega Bundle just simply based on a hero skin for an additional $30. Would have been cheaper to do it the original way like Magni / Alleria for $9.99 and those came with the card back too!
Because it's only a 4-pack difference. 100 dust is the long-run statistical average per pack. I know it never feels like it, but that's the well-documented average. So 20 packs is 2000 dust. A golden legendary is 1600 dust, or the equivalent of 16 packs.
Meanwhile, hasn't the normal preorder price been $50 US for 50 packs? Witchwood was 70, but I strongly believe it was 50 for 50 for all the previous preorders, since the normal price is only 40 packs for $50 bucks. And so, 50 + Golden Legendary is still better than any preorder from The Grand Tournament through Kobolds and Catacombs.
About buying a whole set? It might be cool if Bliz designed Hearthstone that way, but they just didn't design that way. I know Fantasy Flight Games tends to make a lot of "Living Card Games" where there are no random packs, and like every month or two there is a small expansion, 3 copies each of 20 different cards for $15 dollars.
Dr. Boom Mad Genius, hero card looks more to me like a Hunter legendary hero than a warrior, but whada I know? Plus being color blind, it probably is warrior, lol. Looks green to me, so, must be brown. Or whatever color warrior heroes are, lol.
The price difference between bundles is a bit of a rip off but whatever I just bought the mega bundle lol!
Also looks like Blizzard are getting a little lazy with their map designs. I feel like there were way better interactions with the debris around the map and the last 2 expansions seemed to lack a lot of that cool stuff! I hope this expansion has some cool effects, even though it looks a little bare.
$58,67 US dollars is what this expansion will actualy cost me. Unfair!
€49,99 = $58,67 US dollars.
So I messaged the support team, trying to get and answer, they replied fast with the following:
"Your question about the money conversion is actually a really good one that doesn't get asked a whole lot, but I'm more than happy to give some more information about it!
Between all of the different countries and currencies, all of the markets are different so some countries and currencies will pay more for certain products than others. It all goes back to the country's market that will determine the prices of these types of things."
So I guess it isn't Blizzard fault that the price are the same in different currencies.
Nontheless, I will buy it...
I hear ya there. Converting the costs back to USD can make some of us upset if the cost ends up being higher. I'm sure if they could have 1:1 parity in costs they'd do that to ensure more purchases.
Maybe if we someday have a universal currency lol.
I actually found the reveal video funny :D
Buying mega bundle now!
"look at me I'm a big boy"
I didn't like it actually the cringe levels were high.. it was cool if you ignore the cringe but not too much XD they aren't on BB's level!
Explosive stuff. Looks like fun.
Really? Given this latest expansion did little to change the meta pre-nerfs to spiteful and the like, I would think it would feel doubley as long.
Yes.
How does Magnetic interact with Explosive Runes?
Probably doesn't.
