Tracking More Than 500 Wins? Coming Soon to a Hearthstone Near You
Over the years, community members have been asking if we could have Hearthstone track more than 500 wins per hero. It turns out that this will finally be coming to the game, with the limit being increased to unlimited. TRACK ALL THE WINS!
Quote from Ben BrodeWhy do you not allow players to track ranked wins past 500?
Makes it less powerful of a motivator if we add more rewards at 1k. But we decided not to do that, so we are going to add this soon.
There is no cap. Seems like my tweet may have been misinterpreted. (Source)
Adding a reward for doing a thing creates 'extrinsic motivation' do it. If I offered you X for doing Y, and you want X, you might consider doing Y.
If we offer you more rewards for reaching 1000 ranked wins, but you already have 1000 ranked wins, we aren't motivating you do anything. Our options were to cap you at 500, then unleash new rewards at 1k, giving 500 wins of progress towards a new reward, or just letting you count up from 500 now, and not adding rewards at 1k. We decided to go with latter.
I want to point out that I think adding more cosmetic rewards is generally cool. I just don't think 1000 ranked wins is a better place to put them than say, level 70, or in Ranked Chest rewards. (Source)
I like the idea of more cosmetic rewards.
Besides, I think developing a wild arena that awards wild packs along with a standard arena is a good idea. :P
It does cost additional money:
-In ALL of their games, Blizzard push the community aspect, because when a game fails, the community is what make people stay. Hence the Mythic only Karazhan, the obvious multiplayer bias vs solo game in DIII, the awful solo matchmaking for solo players in Overwatch etc.
-Frustration is a powerful purchase factor.
Given the size of Activision Blizzard, don't believe for a minute anything they are doing wasn't scrutinized by the marketing guys beforehand. The price hikes in EU, the removal of adventures, are all business decisions which have nothing to do with what the player base wants, but with what the marketing dudes think the player base will accept, even if they whine.
This is really silly. A reward past 500 wins would motivate some of the maturing playerbase (people who have played for multiple years now) who are at 5000+ rank wins and want another goal than just collecting cards and getting legend. Unless they implement a full achievement system like essentially all other Blizzard games (HotS doesn't as well but I bet Heroes 2.0 will) this is the best motivation there is around.
Why not make the reward for 1000 wins a class-specific emote? Surely this wouldn't be difficult since they seem to have easy access to the voice actors for each of their new made-up holiday emotes.
No one even asked for rewards. The question was "Why do you not allow players to track ranked wins past 500?"
Then, Ben proceeds to make a case why rewards aren't beneficial.
What we have here is a failure to communicate. Nice job, Ben.
But now that you brought up rewards...everyone wants them.
I think there is a failure in your understanding instead. What he is saying is that they did not want to track above 500 as it would prevent them from adding rewards in the future and they wanted to keep that option open. Whether or not players asked for rewards is irrelevant as it is Blizzard that wanted to keep the option open themselves.
Gj BEN MOAR REWARDS please.
welcome
So they are going to give some kind of visible reward at 1000 wins or not? Not clear to me...
maybe they should add platinum portrait or some golden legendary as gift! :)
ACHIEVEMENTS Blizzard!! We want achievements!!
Uhg please no... ive spent too much time in wow getting all but 200 of them. I dont wanna worry about another list of achis to get.. stupid ahci itch.

I'm sitting at 499 on all 9 heroes - just switched to all casual this week!
I'd love the option to turn off the golden portrait though. It's why I haven't hit 500 on anyone.
