We're once again opening up moderator applications to add new volunteers to our team to help combat spam, keep the forums in-line with our posting rules, and to be the best like no one ever was. It's been over a year since we've opened up applications, so please read this entire post to make sure you understand everything before applying.
If you have any questions, please respond to this thread and someone will surely answer your questions.
Moderator Responsibilities
We ask the following basics of all members of our moderation team. Moderators shall:
Maintain sticky threads containing important information and resources.
Let us know if you come across outdated information so we can get it fixed.
Post on the forums to stay active and to interact with the community. Encourage discussion!
Communicate with the mod team on the staff forums and Slack.
We're more active on slack than our private mod forums, so we'd like you to do the same.
Real time chat is awesome for modding and also allows us to get to know each other better.
Let your fellow moderators know about your absences.
Moderator Requirements
In addition to the basics that we ask of all our mods, we require:
You have a HearthPwn account in good standing.
You're currently active on the site and promise to continue to remain active while a mod.
Be active on our web-based chat, Slack. This is so essential we're adding it twice.
To accept the Moderator Code of Conduct (seen below). If you don't agree with this, do not apply.
A Note on Moderator Activity
We understand that you cannot be around 24/7 and we don't expect that of you, we just want you to be active in your duties. If you are currently an active poster on the site, moderating may only add 20 extra minutes to your daily rounds each day.
Please don't apply if you only intend to stick around for a couple of weeks or simply want some forum flair that makes you stand out.
Moderator Code of Conduct
The moderator agrees:
To be respectful of all members, each other, and the administration of HearthPwn.com and to represent the website of HearthPwn.com with professionalism, even though we are all volunteers;
To understand that not all decisions are open for group discussion because input arrives from many sources, some of which require privacy and confidentiality;
To be discreet and to maintain confidentiality regarding moderator forum activities and member information;
To agree to use private emails and private messaging to communicate with the administrative team when questioning administration policy or guidelines or decisions on specific issues;
To resign from moderator duties if there is a breech of confidentiality, if the code of conduct is not followed, or if the rules of HearthPwn or the authority of the administration are not recognized.
Surpassing Regular Moderation
I thought it would be important to touch upon an important aspect of our team that never has been mentioned in our mod recruitment posts and that is stuff outside of basic moderation.
Many of our team members do more than just remove posts, hand out warnings, and ban users; they also help keep everyone on the site up to date with the latest news, decks, and reveals. If you're interested in helping with any of the following things, in addition to moderator duties, it's always welcomed but not required.
Contribute fun ideas for the site.
New sticky ideas + maintenance of them.
Finding and adding pro decks to the site. *
Writing deck guides.
Update Esports scores / keep track of Esports data. *
Assisting during card reveal periods.
Creating puzzles (spot the lethal!) **
Writing card clarifications.
Brawl guides. **
Adventure guide strategies and deck testing.
Do note though that some staff roles do more outside of typical moderation.
* Events Team! This is not immediately starting up but I would like to get it going again, and properly this time. Additional recruitment will open at a later date or we'll move people on over internally :D ** New things that are going to be started soon (tm)
Open Positions
The following positions are currently open and accepting applications. You can apply by clicking on the position name.
I'm kinda excited about this, it's the first time we have open mod applications since my arrival. I'll certainly keep my eyes on this thread and try to answer your questions if I can. Don't be too afraid to apply if you are interested, you don't need to be particularly talented or experienced to get selected (I know this because I got picked). As I see it, the most important things (in addition to not having a 5-page long warning history) are that you have time and are willing to help (unless you are applying to FC/Arena mod, in that case you should also be an active user of those Forums). And I guess Flux forgot to mention this: there will be cake.
DISCLAIMER: Neither yours truly nor anyone else affiliated with the site can be held responsible if the existence of the aforementioned cake turns out to be a lie.
hi i would like to apply to be a regular mod just keeping forums tidy and helping with questions im active daily and do involve myself in the site with posts or making decks one deck even got 9 upvotes so im like a pro :O
I'm unable to taste the cakes we have in store for newcomers but most of them seem chocolate-y. One is covered in pink marzipan so I don't know what's underneath it.

Hi mods! :) I want to be a global moderator since I started posting on this forum. I love Hearthpwn's community and it would be a great honor for me to be a mod. I know I'm not perfect as a user, but I'm a very active one, who really enjoys helping others and sometimes (even when I'm not a mod) I try to help as much as I can to keep things calm here when some user is doing things totally out of place. I hope you will consider me at the time of selecting a new moderator. Thanks for everything and keep the good work, you mods are part of the reason why Hearthpwn is such an amazing place. :)
Fixed an error with the application where it wasn't correctly skipping certain sections based on the role chosen. For the applicants we've had sop far, don't worry, you don't need to reapply as we're just going to skip over those questions for you.

+1 for sherman becoming a moderator!Sherman is the moderator we need!He will build a huge firewall to keep spammers, trolls and flamers out of hearthpwn and will make them pay for it! >:D
I've always wanted to help out since joining the forums. I look forward to seeing whether or not I've earned the opportunity to join in with the amazing work you guys do every day on the forums!
Quick question: Do we/should we have been around for an unspoken amount of time, before becoming mods? Like, I have 900+ comments...but I've only been here since May (June, really). It's not mentioned in the post above so it might not be an issue, but I thought I would double-check.
Either-way, it's cool that you're providing the opportunity, even if we're all common-rabble scrubs hehe :^)
Behold, foolish interlopers! I am commanding this mortal to spread the will of the Scourge throughout the interwebs, encouraging you to seek out me, Archlich Kel'Thuzad! Now coming to you as the tenth class of Hearthstone!
I am a finalist in this Class Creation Competition, so if you could give it a look I would be greatly appreciative <3

Shadows can probably answer better what he expects from future mods but I definitely don't see it as an issue. My account was about 3 months old when I applied and these people were crazy enough to take that gamble and accepted me. I also had under 400 posts at that time. I'd definitely give it a go if I were you.

There's a lot that can go into it but raw numbers of posts or time that you've been registered to the site aren't high up there. Although they can be a good indication of a candidate's dedication, I prefer to look at the quality of contributions. We also go through things like your reports to see if they were approved or denied (if we deny most of your reports, you're usually denied as a potential mod).
I'm definitely no stranger to letting newer people onto the team. Sometimes it can bring forward fresh perspective :D

Would certainly increase your emoji-representation :)

Just a question: when will we know who have been chosen to be moderators?
