So how about this. Instead of penalizing the jerk players, why not reward those that are playing the game... like give them an extra star rank?
Stop it. Get some help....
Unfortunately, people with this issue seldom seek help and benefit from doing so even less frequently. It is characterized by grandiosity, a lack of empathy and a pathological sense of entitlement.

Sometimes it's just a disconnection. Most of the time its a rage quit and I love it when a player does it instead of conceding. Not only I beat him but I got on his nerves lmao!!
To be honest, 90 % of my games are played on my phone. I play while I'm walking from point A to point B to kill time. If something comes up along the way (I meet someone or I need to get something done), I just lock my phone, because it's much faster and much more convenient than conceding. No rage quit, no disconnect, but I do it all the time.
To all the people in the thread just saying "you got your win": you may have a very narrow view on why people play the game.
Some of us are here to have fun, win or lose, and an opponent just leaving without conceding is not only not fun, it's time consuming. Sure, we get the star, but that's not what we logged on for.
To the penalty of stars suggestion... ehhhhh no. That's still a bad idea. Maybe a "cannot play ranked for N minutes", (penalize people who just leave, rather than people who disconnect, since disconnects will likely take time to sort out) but not a full on loss of stars.
It only bothers me a bit if I'm playing a wierd selfmade combo deck, and I'm about to do the combo when they leave, but everybody has all the rights to ragequit whenever they want and I'm not upset about it
I’ve been running into min max odd paladin and zoo in casual too often. Roping ad leaving hopefully saves a few people from having to play against these try hards in casual.
Well, dunno what's better. Players constantly spamming emotes (easy to tell if someone became extra salty after being perfectly answered for each of his moves) and insta-adding you to their FL to insult everyone and (especially) your mom or shitbags who decide to waste other peoples time by not conceding.

I actually was shocked the first time someone added me just to PM me and insult. I was blown away by the fact that they went so far out of their way to be a dirtbag for losing.

Oh, well then the answer is staring you in the face. if it's not about the winning, then if you see the rope appear and suspect that the person has left, then save yourself some time and just leave the game as well and start a new one. Stop this entitled whining about demanding that other people stick around to satisfy some selfish innate gratification that requires the other person to have to sit through your long winded turns knowing they have already lost. Seriously, the selfish poor-winner attitude of some people is baffling. The fact that you actually want to punish people for not wanting to stick around and endure defeat for any longer than is necessary is incredibly depressing and part of the reason there is so much salt and bad-feeling in the game...

Because that's also not fun to just assume the worst in the other player. If they have legitimate connection issues I'd rather let them be able to hop back in and resume than to just cut them off, as I would prefer if I was experiencing connection issues. I'd RATHER my opponent start steamrolling my face after losing a turn to connection issues than for them to just leave and give me the win, so I extend the same courtesy to others.
And who said anything about long and drawn out turns? Typically, if a match has reached a stage where one player has a clear and undesputed win over the other, I have no issue with a conceding player. I don't want to hold you in a game any longer than you want to be there. However, it is the particular form by which these players leave the game that is 100% a problem, which you don't seem to grasp in the discussion.
Heck, let's consider this from a perspective of 'wins = fun' (which I don't hold, but I'll entertain it). Wouldn't conceding a match, rather than just alt+f4ing the match be more fun because it leads to statistically more wins, since you aren't forced to sit out of the game for the amount of time it takes for the server to register that you aren't in the game anymore? Wouldn't you rather just jump right into the next game so you can win that one instead of having to wait for the server to recognize you left the previous match?

Then you are at an impasse. Since "fun" is the modicum of investment that you are basing this upon, then you have to accept what is also fun for the other player. In their position, the most fun option for them may be to simply leave the game and do something else. And in the process, glean enjoyment from the knowledge they've left you sitting there waiting. Some might consider that a small gleaning of fun from an otherwise fun-less game. You don't have the right to enforce your value of fun on another player any more than that player has the right to demand you let them win because they aren't having as much fun as they want. You see, this is exactly where the entitlement point comes into play. You are looking at this from an entirely selfish viewpoint which (while you can do that) doesn't provide you with a right to make the demands you are making.

I'm going to use an in person game tournament as a metaphor to explain: When you play in a tournament, and start losing, or stop having fun you are free to leave at any time. That has never been in dispute. But part of not being a toxic person is recognizing that 'yes, my actions will negatively impact the enjoyment of others outside of game space, so I will avoid out of game space actions that would do that'.
If you are in the game space? Feel free to trash talk them to your hearts content, mind gaming your opponent is a well honored tradition. Use a playstyle that is actively unfun to play against, best way to win is to frustrate your opponent into making mistakes.
Up and leaving a tournament without letting the organizer know? That is a fast track to getting banned from future events, because it means you'd rather negatively impact the enjoyment of your opponent outside of game rather than in game.
I have no issue with you leaving after telling the organizer you concede a match. That's fine. I don't agree with it, but I'd rather you have fun than not have fun. If the only fun you can find in a situation is by negatively impacting another persons fun... maybe you need to do some self reflection on why that is because that sounds way more selfish than my point of view.
I actually love players who leave/disconnect .
Doing that means they are ULTRA SALTY and it makes me feel HELLA GOOD
No Blizzard should not waste their time on this. Take the win and move on with your life lol.

When I am about to lose and I already played enough of the game that day, I simply turn off the app. It's way quicker than conceding.

Knowing I made somebody rage quit is well worth the 20 seconds of "time wasted"
Anger is the punishment we give ourselves for someone else's mistake.

Spot the shudderwok player, "why are my opponents not conceding, even I do not wanna play this stupid combo whaaa".
But srsly, no I do not think Blizz should penalize them, utsi a wun ao ae happy about it wow

Should have a special place in Hell for people who does this BS, just concede and show some dignity you pampered stupid kid.
if it pisses you off, then aren't they getting what they want? to piss you off? (assuming that is what they want, make you feel disrespected).
true power comes from self mastery.
Ok Obi-Wan...
