So I was playing a game in wild that went to fatigue... my opponent was a rogue who was chucking razor petals at me while his auctioneer was forcing him to take fatigue damage. His final petal in hand killed me and forced him to take lethal fatigue damage... so great I thought, at least we both get a defeat... except, I was greeted with the victory screen?!?
Since when does this sort of “draw” situation result in a victory for one player?!? It didn’t used to.
naah it isn't a victory it's a tie, ties like that end in a victory screen because blizzard doesn't have a tie screen for some random reason, however if you checked after the game you would have noticed that neither player won nor lost stars.
When you for example both die from hellfire, you both get the "defeat" screen, but none of you loose star. In this situation you won, because auctioner effect triggers before the razorpetan deal damage.
Exactly as stated.
Wording is the key here Gadgetzan Auctioneer says "Whenever". This means before the other effects triggers.
So, even though he killed you with that Razorpetal, your opponent was actually dead already from fatigue.
The game shows all the process and you dying from the Razorpetal, but actually you won.
This is almost certainly to do with the draw from the Auctioneer causing fatigue before the spells effect. Since Auctioneer is a Whenever effect rather than and after it happens as the spell is cast. This means the draw is before the spells effect.
Okay so this just happened to me in a mirror priest match, I had 13 life and my opponent had 6 but we both had around 12-13 cards left in our deck after multiple archbishops so is there like a match time limit? my opponent wouldnt accept my friend request so we could discuss it , but it was a really fun match none the less.
I think in the Monster Hunt a draw equals a win. One of the bosses spawned 1/3s that dealt one damage when the died, which spawned another 1/3. If the boss chains them the right way you can take a lot of damage, but he kill himself at the same time. Since it is a simultaneous effect, you both should lose. But you get to move on to the next boss...

It happened to Kripp in a video as well.
It's not. Draw in MH or DR is a replay with an opponent of the same level.
It's actually a good choice if you are going to loose anyway and you manage to get a draw.

I had the same result through a different situation and it was a loss for me, even though my opponent died first.
Be aware that no matter the graphics and how the match is showed, it depends on how the game develops and the effect order.
A great example is the "Abomination" druid deck. Long story short, the final combo deals 40 damage to both players.
Personally, I think that once a players life reaches 0, the game should end, but in the case of that deck, both players will die (unless you have more than 40 life/armor). What seems even more odd is that if you play a Shudderwock, once your opponent dies, the effect stops.

He cast a spell; drew a card; took fatigue damage; then you took damage... he dies first.
Not sure if that’s how it works, but it makes sense to me.
Interesting. Thanks for the insight guys.

edit sorry this didn’t submit quickly

Wow lol! There should be a warning a few turns before.
