Golden cards are sweet. I don't go out of my way to craft golden cards unless they have mega gold value (Kazakus, Jaraxxus, Lich King, Lyra, etc) but if I'm blessed with one I'll keep it! I have a golden Deathwing that I unpacked and treasure, a golden Cairn too.
I think it would be cool if a golden had some small advantage over the normal, especially on the legendary. Nothing game breaking, but just something to make the effort to craft, or the luck to pull from a deck more "worth it" than just pure aesthetics.

The Golden version of a card should never be different than the regular, but they should make a few cards that interact with Golden status. Definitely not running throughout a whole set's theme, just a few non-OP joke cards like Mayor Noggenfogger.
Maybe a King Midas-type guy who turns any minion he attacks into Golden. Or a minion that can only attack if you control another Golden minion (normal stats, just something funny to put in Golden decks).
There is a tiny bit of precedent for this in Blingtron 3000, which always creates Golden Weapons even if not Golden itself.
I love to have my favorite cards in gold, ie Coldlight Oracle. Valeera was an easy choice as well, and N'Zoth always brings the golden value. Would love to have 2x Dead Man's Hands in gold but it's sadly not in the cards.
I would never consider to craft a golden card. But i like the aesthetics, so i also dont dust goldenes (except for real urgent situations).
That way i keep the goldens and dust the normals, if i have more than 2 copies (1 for legendarys). Except the situations like the caverns below nerf, where i opened a golden copy or the golden warrior quest when i needed Lyra and got a normal warrior quest. But i would never dust my golden Lich King (first kft Pack) or my first golden legendary! (Jaraxus)

Want to discuss my predictions or suggestions with me personaly?
Also, i particularly despise those who spend their resources to craft golden decks.
Why's that, if I may ask? :)
The way I see it, it means that they are either dedicated to a single deck/class or ... well, they have tons of money. xD So, if you say you despise those people, it sounds like you either don't respect other people's opinions regarding aesthetics or are just jealous, respectively.^^
Personally, I also somewhat despise all-Golden decks, but it's more because of the kind of people I've run into with them. Theoretically, there's nothing wrong with a Golden deck, and more power to them for devoting their resources to a deck that they love. However, that doesn't excuse them for roping, stalling the game out, refusing to kill me so they can shove their Golden amaziness down my throat :/
Each and every person I've encountered with a Golden deck has behaved like that. They're showoffs, as RavenSunHP said, flaunting their bling because it makes them feel superior. Call me (us) jealous; it's probably accurate to some degree. But until I meet a "nice" person playing a Golden deck, my stance is that they're mostly complete jerks.
Behold, foolish interlopers! I am commanding this mortal to spread the will of the Scourge throughout the interwebs, encouraging you to seek out me, Archlich Kel'Thuzad! Now coming to you as the tenth class of Hearthstone!
I am a finalist in this Class Creation Competition, so if you could give it a look I would be greatly appreciative <3

Well, I do understand where you're coming from. Having said that, the problem here seems to be the players and not golden cards or golden decks, right? Forgive me the comparison, but wouldn't that be kind of similar to "despising" people of a certain nation or race, just because some of the ones you met were jerks?
I'll try paying attention to the players' behaviour, if I face anyone with golden decks in the future, but up until now, I can't really say that I noticed them being statistically unfriendlier/worse than any other players. Everyone can be a jerk, and without you mentioning it, I would actually never have thought about the possibility of them roping or stalling the game for the specific reason of showing off golden cards. :)
I crafted golden Rag and Sylv because Blizzard was refunding you for them when they cycled into wild
Other than that, I keep all golds and normal cards indiscriminately and wait patiently for nerfs. If I find a deck I really want to craft, I dust a few 'pack fillers' that I predict won't get nerfed ever anyway
I usually only disenchant golden cards that have rotated out (and I do keep some of them as well). If I needed more dust I would obviously disenchant, but I buy enough packs that I can basically craft whatever I want anyway.
The only golden cards I craft are legendaries that I really want/like. I do however always keep a full golden miracle rogue deck, so there's an exception to only crafting golden legendaries.
The only golden in my set I haven't dusted is Leeroy, and that is because I don't have the regular version. He is still used in enough decks (which ebs and flows depending on expansions) that I will not dust him. If I had pulled a crappy golden legendary, it would have been dust instantly. I'm largely with OP in thinking they are just good for dust.

I would say that is a fair assessment.

I do choose golden basic cards in my decks though, and during Ungoro expansion i ran a golden golakka crawler in all my decks just to generate extra salt from all the warriors, rogues, druids and shamans running patches.
So i totally get the charm of it, but it's way cooler using a golden game swinging tech card than a full golden deck in my opinion, makes it stand out more.

I go so far as to dust golden legendaries and craft the same legendary non-golden.
I recently finished my collection, and have only Mekkatorque as a golden and not as a normal card as I can't D/E him.
I would rather have no golden cards than an unfinished golden collection personally.
I'm very happy to open them in packs for the extra dust of course.
i just disenchanted 9000 dust worth today as a matter of fact

Legend with : S65 Freeze Mage, S57 Maly Gonk Druid, S57 "Okay" Shaman, S53 Boom-zooka Hunter, S53 Maly Tog Druid, S52 Wild Tog Druid ft.Blingtron, S50 Quest Rogue, S49 Dead Man's Warrior, S41 Wild Clown Fiesta Druid, S41 Hadronox Jade Druid, S40 Wild OTK Dragon Druid, S35 SMOrc Shaman, S33 Jade Druid, S22 Control Priest, S19 Control Priest
A bit off topic, but wow Golden Kidnapper is really creepy.
What, is he drooling green gooey ooze...?
Generally, I don't hate golden cards, but I don't craft them either, except one = Sylvanas Windrunner. xD
Some animations are cool, but beside legendary's double cost, x4-x8 crafting cost feel like a real dick punch to me.

I DE some gold cards if i need dust but only if i already have 2 copies. I will never DE Archmage Antonidas though infinite golden fireballs.
I just keep golden priest cards and neutrals that might fight into priest. All other get disenchanted.
I disenchant and if it's a really good card that I need, I craft a normal copy.

I want to disenchant my Sindragosa but the jury is still out on it being terrible or not. I'm guessing it will be terrible.
Easy dust.
Gold cards are for streamers and show offs.

Question everything.
I dust every golden card, unless it's something I'll probably craft soon, but if I ever get enough regular copies I dust the golden one.
