My first thought was "Rofl, this legendary just shits on Duskfallen Aviana", as it offers an immediate effect and it benefits only the card's owner. And on top of that the mage player gets to discover a spell, not to mention the dragon has very good stats.
Despite this, I'm kinda skeptical on how popular it will be in the next expansion. Many people might disagree with me on the following, but I think this card is sliiightly overhyped. Granted, we need to see the rest of the spells to justify how strong mage will be next month, but as a 10 mana minion this card is really slow against proactive decks. Mage loses Dragon's Fury and Meteor, so the class'es survivability is significantly weakened. I'm not saying that turn 10 will be an unachievable turn, but it will be much harder to reach. Especially when mage loses its sustain (DK, Arcane Artificer). And let's not forget, that you might not always discover Flamestrike or Blizzard, you might get rubbish.
Still, it's worth noting that Spiteful decks got a HUUGE buff in wild (0 mana UI) and casting a free Pyroblast on the opponent's face while having a 4*/12 on the board is pretty impressive.
I mean it seems like a very good card, but you still need to get to 10 mana to play this. 10 mana is quite a lot, I don't think you want this card playing against aggro or midrange, game result will be decided by then most of the time. And against combo and control is it gonna make a lot of difference?
I am a little skeptical about this card, its not good against aggression and in a lot of games it will be very similar to Primordial Drake and difference between 8 mana and 10 mana is huge, 2 extra turns to survive is not peanuts.
Unless they print Ultimate Infestation for Mage, I don't think this card will be that popular.

I see what your saying. My only counter point to this is, remember that you don't have to play the discovered spell. You can play a spell already in your hand. If you already have flamestrike in hand you can slam this dude down, discover whatever AND play your flamestrike already in hand. Whether or not Mage can make it to 10 is something we'll just have to wait and see on. Mage has lost some important tools for reaching that point.

And they've also sort of lost anything to do when they get to that point. Unless this guy into Pyroblast twice over two turns is your wincon. Or maybe some Toni shenanigans.
This card occupies a weird space as an awesome tempo tool...but for 10 mana.
I suspect if we can tutor luna's pocket galaxy, things could get really interesting.

Ahm, duh? Of course if you have a good (and expensive) spell in your hand, you will play that one instead. I meant, that if you didn't draw your Flamestrike or Blizzard (or whatever mage gets next) by that time and you play Kalecgos, you might not always discover something good from him.
Check the following link and see how the mage's spell pool will become significantly weaker in less than a month. Actually I don't think it's worth talking about mage's state post-rotation. Neither of us know what kind of cards we will get next, so we can't say anything in advance.

I honestly can't wrap my head around what you are saying. Look at the base Value. Play, literally, any spell in your hand (or that you discover) right now, get a 4/12 body that has a persistent effect that lets you play a spell for free every turn (a BIG BIG threat), AND "draw a card". For 10 mana. That is insane. Against Midrange Mage is fine. There are enough stall tools, even after rotation to survive midrange. Not every deck is built to counter aggro. Some decks struggle with aggro, some don't. But even in that situation this card is STILL pretty good against aggro once you can actually play it. It has the potential to wipe their board AND develop your own PLUS give you insane tempo for the rest of the match. The card can literally turn the game around for you on a dime. Yes getting to that point may be difficult but generally speaking most late game decks struggle against hyper aggressive aggro decks.

By the time you can play Kalecgos chances are solid that you have pulled something that you want or need is the point. About 50%. Also it doesn't need to be "expensive". It can be but doesn't need to be. It could just be a frost nova for stall. But I agree that we don't know what is coming so talking about the state of mage spells is pointless. I will say though that just discovering a spell with a discount was one of the best mage spells in the game, discovering a spell you get to play for free attatched to a 4/12 body that will let you do that every turn is well worth the extra 8 mana. I understand It's not apple's to apples, no need to point out the difference just that I'll eat my hat if this card doesn't see significant play.

I think the issue being argued here is this.
Kalecgos is not the reason you are playing control mage. You are playing Kalecgos because it is good in the control mage deck.
It seems (at least at the moment) unlikely that Kale+2x Pyro is something you want in your deck. BUT, if there's another way that control mage is ending games, then Kalecgos almost certainly will be played in that deck because of the tempo.
For 2 more mana you get better body, a dragon tag, can target the spell you just discovered, can keep the spell for later + use other spell from hand for free and have a continues powerful affect if not removed
It's an okay card. Doesn't have taunt, so you can't play this unless you have a board clear in hand to play immediately after. Hoping to discover one from the battlecry is just too risky. Decent to play on an empty board.
Would be so much better if it was a 4/8 with taunt.
Amazing in wild with the quest. But Mages with the quest finished are already going to win. So kinda win more card.

I'll be interested to see if we get a card that creates a new combo deck as well. But I see the point. If Control mage isn't a thing cause aggro is too strong then by extension this card is "not good". I can see that point of view. Though I doubt it'll always be that way and in addition I think Kal is a great card to turn an oppressive and aggressive losing match on it's head. Just got to get to 10 (and have him in hand obvi)
It looks very strong. Mage has certainly seen MUCH worse legendaries over the years.
But I think it's important to keep in mind that Turn 10 will be a different thing again with so many board clears and cheap taunts leaving the format, and Mage no longer has that Frost Lich Jaina at the end of the road to win games. They also lose Arcane Artificer to get that far. In other words, that Kalecgos really needs to deliver, and you have to rely on some random discovery.
I won't be making a prediction because really, who can at this point with every single deck drastically changing, but this won't be enough to carry a Control Mage, I think.
This makes me want to craft a really greedy Dragon Control/Value mage
Stuff like Firetree, Scaleworm, and Twilight Drake for early. Since we're no longer running Dragon's Fury we can just use Frostbolts and Arcane Intellect again.
Throw in Spirit of the Dragonhawk + Daring Fire eater for some neat AoE removal (+ potentially even Jan'alai because why not), or maybe just the classic Doomsayer + Frost NOva/Blizzard clears.
Round out your late game curve with Malygos, Alexstraza and Kalecgos and try to run your opponent out of removals so either MAly or Kalec stick so you can finish them off with Pyroblasts or Fireballs. Might even run Ysera because why not?
This card is just REALLY good in a ton of decks. Playing a 4/12 that they need to kill next turn, discovering a spell (that you don't need to play immediately), and dropping a Flamestrike, Blizzard, or Pyroblast from your hand for free is just an extremely powerful effect even if we haven't seen the rest of the set. In wild, this is going to be in a lot of Kazakus decks so you can cheat out a 10-mana potion. I don't see this card defining the meta or being vital in any combo deck, but simply being a strong card that a lot of mage decks with large spells run to act as a high end (e.g. like The Lich King is now).

Dunno what to think about this minion.

Control mage is one of my favorites decks.
Craft day 1.
Unless of course they release something retarded like hunter DK again.

Coolest cars revealed so far.

Turn 9: Coin+this card=ez concede.
One of the strongest and balanced legendaries in years. Good to see some mage love.
