I think the whole Preparation dependency with Rogue in general limits the design space. Yes, this card with Preparation is good for 2 mana, however, you now need 3 cards to make it look decent: A deathrattle minion, this and Preparation.
I almost feel like this is a chicken/egg problem: Because Preparation exists, Rogue spells have the tendency to cost more in a vacuum.
I can see this being useful in a Carnivorous Cube deck which I believe has yet to surface in Standard.
Would be decent if there was a good target for it.
For now it's just playable. It might become OP after future expansions though if they release support for death rattle rogue.
EDIT: actually I think this card might be pretty decent. It seems it can be used in combo decks for an OTK. We will have to wait and see what's what once the card is released, but I have heard a few different versions now. a leeroy OTK and the new weapon/kobold illusionist/this/maylgos etc is meant to be nuts.

maybe they need to get rid of prep? I mean prep is great, but if it really does hinder design space then I think we'd be better off getting rid of it and starting over.
Of course this would ruin a ton of decks so not going to happen.. they might hall of fame it eventually though if this really is the case.
Honestly I don't think it's all that bad even at five depending on the death rattle you hit. Like the Mechanical Dragonling. Just casting it raw on that is pretty good. But yeah, it's obviously costed at this due to prep.
Considering that, with Play Dead, triggering a Deathrattle is worth 1 mana, the price of this card seems far too high. Perhaps if there was a minion with a Deathrattle so strong that triggering it twice could be a game-winning move, I'd use it, but does such a card exist, now or in the future?

There’s a reason this thing is so expensive. With Leeroy, Cube and Prep, if this cost less than (4) you could do 30 damage from hand with no set up. You technically still do it with this at 5 in Wild with Tomb Pillager and Counterfeit Coin or in standard with WANTED!.
Blizz seem to think rogue decks = 5 deathrattle minions, 13x cards that are overcosted, but balanced due to prep, and 12x prep to ensure that the cards are balanced. You can´t balance ever single rogue spell around prep, when you can only have 2 preps in the first place.
I wish that they would change or HOF Preparation. To change the card such that it would only reduce the next spell you play that costs (4) or more... would be a way to limit Prep's design space issue but allow it to still be a strong card for Prep -> Vanish; Prep -> Sprint, etc.
As a rogue main, I am becoming increasingly frustrated... it seems Blizz has no clue how to balance rogue... I am hoping this expansion isn't more neutral-stone for rogue.

It seems like only sylvanas and maybe cube are good enough to justify this. Seems like a terrible card.

That's why they made that awesome card Thistle Tea lol

This card absolutely has the right mana cost. The reason being Kobold Illusionist, among other things.
Just beat a shudderwock by playing Kobold Illusionist into breaking Necrium Blade into Preparation into Necrium Vial
I now have three 1/1 Malygos on board. 2X Sinister Strike for 36 damage and dead is the shaman.
It isn't exceptionally hard to pull off, so at three or less mana, it would be way too easy.
