Hello everyone. How are you all? I was having a debate myself between these 2 cards. Which one should I craft first? Is it Cairne Bloodhoof or Sylvanas Windrunner?
Cairen. with Sylvanas you might get extreme value and steal a Rag, or you might get nothing. Cairen ALWAYS gets value. It's out of SW:P and SW:D range and both iterations have 5 health, out of the range of all AOE and most cheap spells.
In my opinion it's difficult to compare the two cards generally since they do very different things. Cairne Bloodhoof is all about board presence and staying power while Sylvanas Windrunner is great for disrupting an opponent's position or as a combo piece with any card that can kill her.
Cairne Bloodhoof is probably easier to fit into more decks though.

So Sylvanas is more to be fit in combo deck instead of Cairne right?

Certainly not in general because Sylvanas Windrunner needs specific cards to work correctly with her. Priests have Shadow Word: Death, Warriors have Shield Slam, Mages have Fireblast, etc. If you don't have a way to kill Sylvanas Windrunner yourself, then you have to rely on trading to get the most out of her effect, which can be iffy.
Lorewise Sylvannas is one of my favorites ever, but usefulness in the card game it has to be Cairne by far. His field presence is just so much better 9/10 times. There are plenty of decks I run both, but in times where I think it is better to run one vs the other I almost always go with Cairne.
if you play warlock/priest/warrior/shaman(reincarnate), syvlannas is probably first pick
if you play mage/druid/paladin/rogue/hunter, cairne is probably first pick
This, though I think Sylvanas is generally better overall, even if she has a more situational ability; she puts the same, if not more tempo out when played on turn 6+ in comparison to Cairne, only to trade off the card's stickiness, which isn't enough in my opinion to justify Cairne over Sylvanas.
I would definitely go with Cairne as the better card IN GENERAL. It is probably the best neutral card in the game. What I mean is it's yeti on crack and just incredibly difficult to deal with. Yes silence can disrupt things, but that goes for every card with a good ability. As for Sylvannas, I can't tell you how many times I have traded favorably with it and they get nothing. At most, it ends up forcing me to clear my board (which would have also been cleared by a flamestrike, hellfire, etc). Having said that, those combos that are possible with Sylvannas are insane O_o
I went with Sylvanas a couple weeks ago and I do not regret it at all. My reasoning is, her effect is so unique. Cairne can (weakly) be substituted with a Sunwalker. Sylvanas really has no close substitute at all. She's just too good I think.

Both are slow as neither have Taunt or Battlecry and are typically unplayable when behind. I'd favor Cairne in most cases (due to his lack of specialization).
I was very surprised to see this as close as it is. I still think cairne is the better choice but the meta seems to be swaying in the opposite direction.
risk vs reward. cairne is very low risk and decent reward. sylvannas is higher risk but MUCH higer potential reward. of course if you are bad and just want to slap a legendary down without thinking, cairne every time.
A lot of control decks tend to keep the board clear, which gives the opponent more of a chance to knock out sylv with no value to you. That never happens with Cairne. I think they both have their place. Depends on the deck.
Hum i am myself in the same situation in EU. Wondering what to craft with my first 1600 dust. I think cairn is safer and more flexible overall, but sylvanas is more powerful in the right hand. Cairn can be substitute more easily with neutral he is just a sticky minion on the board after all ( a sunwalker or bougerfist ogre can bring presence to the board), i would say that cairn is a little more passive and easier to play around, he is only a 4/5 after all so you can ignore him.
Sylvanas might be harder to play but she has more impact right away on the board and even if she can be played around you force generally bad trade. She will force a reaction most of the time or sub optimal play but in some situation will bring very little to the board, unlike cairn.
BTW i was wondering should i aim more toward those mid game neutral legendary like cairn/sylvanas or late game one like rag/ysera with my first 1600? I feel like naxx brought a little more option toward the late game with KT, he is a decent late game drop and synergize well with all the deathrattle.
let's not discount the fact that people very often make horrible plays just to avoid 'giving you value' with sylvannas. ive had people suicide 4 minions into her. ive had people faceless her, then kill her with another minion, giving me back their sylvannas. it freaks people out A LOT of the time and makes them mess up.

Specific deck? Nope. Just overall general.

This is statement is false.
I've put this in card discussion.

There's no ultimate answer, just look at the poll, its 50/50 ;)
btw: I just crafted both :)

Sylvanas, hands down, no contest.

Cairne is unconditional.
Sylvanas is a difficult-to-use Mind Control.

cairne is good value but sylvanas can win games. so my vote has to go to sylv
Sylvanas. She wins games.
Cairne is just sticky... like Lindsay Lohan
