So I'm a new player by most standards, just started playing last Saturday, and it is here that I've realized that you need to start disenchanting cards to get new ones, not just from packs (maybe I'm wrong?). I need help with what in my collection to disenchant, my collection is public. I am going for elemental mage as I already got Frost Lich Jaina from a pack.
Are you planning on being free to play or pay to play. If you're playing on sticking to f2p then avoid disenchanting right away until you start to build up your collection a lot more. If you want to really jump right into it I would say you need at least 50 packs from classic, knights of the frozen throne, and journey to ungoro to even hope to have a collection going. I chose those 3 packs because they are what will have the most lasting impact for the next 2 years.
Since you are new.. my advice would be... build your collection first... use mass disenchant feature only as it only gets rid of duplicate cards. Once you figure out how the crafting system works you can get rid of extra golden cards (if you already have 2 of the non golden versions). If you are free to play and want to know how to maximize value from crafting and you seriously want to disenchant non-competitive cards for dust, I highly recommend Trumps F2P series... you will learn alot about crafting & playing
He has many F2P series. (The one above is the most current) If you watch his other series REMEMBER they are from old Metas and will feature potentially no longer viable decks.
Yeah I know haha, Should I wait till I have a decent amount of cards to start dusting? (and yeah this post is serious XD)
Here's a rough priority guide for dusting.
Extra cards (any you already have 2x of, that you can mass disenchant with a single button click).
Golden cards that you already have 2x of the non golden version
Golden cards that you'll literally never use
"Bad" golden legendaries (if you're not sure, don't dust, and ask first)
"Bad" non golden legendaries (same thing, if you're not sure, don't dust and ask first).
The best way to accumulate cards (aside from using real money to buy cards) is completing daily quests. Always re-roll 40g quests. If you play regularly, you should be able to accumulate 100g every 1 to 1.5 days - 1 pack costs 100g. With this frequency, you should be able to open up a legendary roughly once a month or more.
If you want to be competitive, you'll probably have to drop some actual money on the game though.

Funny enough, it appears in this series he is playing Elemental Mage as well :)

I'm trying to be F2P lol. So basically, whenever an expansion pack drops, there will be 3 packs that you will have to get : Classic, the new one, and the expansion pack before, is that correct? (Or is it just according to the meta?)

Not necessarily: at some point, picking up packs from earlier sets helps you expand your collection and fill in gaps. That being said, as you literally just started, I would hold off on Mean Streets of Gadgetzan and Whispers of the Old Gods as they will be removed from Standard come April-ish. Focus on the sets from this year, those being Journey to Un'Goro, Knights of the Frozen Throne, the expansion that'll land in December, and of course Classic. Think of it less as "I should focus on this expansion and the last one", and more "I should focus on the 'Year of the Mammoth' sets."
Starting out, you should focus your gold-expenditures on Classic more than anything; the cards there are in Classic for a reason: they exist as a solid starting-point for everyone. I would buy 2 Classic packs for every non-Classic pack initially: Classic - Classic - KFT - Classic - Classic - KFT, etc. etc. As you start to build up a significant foundation of cards, you can move away from Classic and lean in more heavily on whatever set tickles your fancy the most.
Behold, foolish interlopers! I am commanding this mortal to spread the will of the Scourge throughout the interwebs, encouraging you to seek out me, Archlich Kel'Thuzad! Now coming to you as the tenth class of Hearthstone!
I am a finalist in this Class Creation Competition, so if you could give it a look I would be greatly appreciative <3

Damn so being F2P is gonna be really hard huh?
Frankly, you would have to be delusional to believe remaining F2P is inherently "easy", especially when you go up against stacked players and some frustration seeps in. "If only I had more cards." However, it's not as difficult as one might imagine. The key to F2P is time: you can acquire every (Standard) card in the game for free with enough time and dedication to playing. If you want to complete your entire collection, though...you're gonna need to spend money to get them Wild cards haha.
...plus, if you're anything like myself, eventually you come to this realization after playing Hearthstone long enough:
"I've dedicated quite a lot of time to this game, and there's nothing inherently wrong with spending money on it; I would do that willingly for other games or entertainment products. Hell, I spend $7 for two hours of movie-entertainment; surely I can drop $20 on a game I play every week."
And once you put your toe in that water, there isn't much stopping you from jumping in lol. The Adventures are fun, and Wild is a great source of enjoyment.

My advice for noobs would be to cash in on the guaranteed legendary for the first 10 packs per expansion. I would suggest you keep buying packs until your collection is about 60-70% full and/or you have 99% of the common cards. The last expansion that exists is One Night in Kara and I think that it is worth your 700 gold because you know exactly what you are getting and you lock in the ability to buy the rest of the expansion after standard (implied but not confirmed by Blizzard). Adventures gave you guaranteed cards which is really nice. You know what your gold will get you.
My disenchanting advice for a noob... wait three months after an expansion and only hit the disenchanting button. You will probably gain at least a few hundred dust in the course of a year. (don't disenchant wild cards)

So every year they add new sets (expansions) that will only be playable for a year after it releases? I really don't understand much, sorry :3

Haha yeah maybe gonna drop some money in a while if I'm like on a 10 lose streak or smth XD

Wait so if you pay for the 700 gold you'll get the whole adventure?

If this is a serious post, then I wouldn't dust anything because you barely have any cards at all.
