This card is what makes astral druid go over the hump and become a tier 1 deck. Mark my words!
Astral druid is dependent upon getting astral communion as an early draw. If that doesn't happen, it still runs a ton of ramp to get to its biggest minions (7+ mana). Forbidden Ancient fills out the gap between the early ramp and the big minions at the end of the curve to prevent the board from swinging too far in trading with other minions. Bonus is if that you draw it right after dropping astral, you still put a 10/10 monster on the board that your opponent has to deal with.
You're right there's always better minions on the curve, but for astral, this guy's flexibility is mandatory and fills a hole
Astrals hole is not drawing Astral or Ramp in your starting hand LUL this card sucks
So much better than it's getting credit for. Druids are constantly left with extra mana against aggressive decks because they have expensive minions and have to use their shitty removal instead of playing them.
Unfortunately with all the nerfs there will only be Cthun decks where there's no room, and maybe a token/aggro deck. It could work quite well in a flood deck like that though, it gives you a 100% ability to keep playing minions, and amazing top deck when you've run out of steam.
This card may be better than I give it credit for. Flexibility is a powerful tool, and this card is exceptionally flexible. My major complaints with it are...
It's weaker than on curve counterparts.
It's very susceptible to silence. More so than Twilight Drake as a solid comparison, and everyone knows how much they hate their drakes getting silenced. Spend your entire turn 6 bringing out a 6/6? LOL Silence.

A flexible minion that's always curve friendly
Powerful minion in top deck wars
It's not exactly awful because of this, but it certainly isn't amazing either. I'd hesitate to even say it's good and even if you could argue it is, 'good' is generally still not good enough for ranked play. It really depends on how useful the flexibility of the card can be. Personally, I just don't think this card is good enough to warrant play in Standard. In arena? Hell yeah, probably damn near an auto-pick.
Reasonable in something like Ramp Druid. It's a not-spectacular early drop, but it at least gets you board presence. Late game, it's just a reasonable body. There are probably better silence targets, and if this thing gets hit, it protects an Ancient of War. Might be a 1-of.
That said, the ability to have two reasonable on-curve plays might be better than I think it is... I'll be interesting to play with, it might be better than I think.
Actually I called it, I submitted a card functionally the same as Forbidden Ancient (1 for 1/1 Druid minion with this effect) to a competition in the Fan Creations forum last February. Funny part is, people in the discussion thread were all like "omg this card is OP you can't make this card this card can't exist it's too good", I'd like to see it in all their decks now.
why people only talk about the poor stats without mentionning considering that you can play this minion on any turn. So since it's the perfect filler minon because of it's versatility and adaptability obviously can't have great stats also or it would be completly broken. Not sure if the versatility is good enough to see construted play but I would pick this almost every time over other epics in arena unless I am missing something.
Ok, after playing this card a few times, i must say its preeeetty weak. Playing it on mana 1-3 sux, on mana 4 you got Mire Keeper, on mana 5 druid of the claw. If its a 7-10 mana creature, this will get silence and get back a 1-1. Its an epic and its bad, should be more like a rare.. Just fvck the flexibility..

Have you actually seen a lot of silence since the nerfs? I haven't.
This card's versatility would actually make it amazing, except for the fact that C'Thun Druids, and C'Thun decks in general, already have a perfect curve. There will be very few cases where you are grasping for a way to use up your mana before the very late game.
In Arena it's brilliant, but the rarity kind of kills it there.

It dies to Earth Shock, but in the current metastorm only Aggro Shaman runs that card and he's going to save it for a taunter. Best use is for a ramp deck or Astral Communion list where you can stretch out to X mana and then plop this down.

From rank 20 to rank 4 i have yet to see a silence except earth shock so we can safely say that all the cards are safe from silence on the current meta.
I died 3 times to a 10 mana Ancient because i didn't see that coming.

Confirmed Brann Bronzebeard does not work with this card. Tried it and failed. Even my opponent was like "wtf?"

Tried him in a deck. Got him in my opening hand, and he ended up staying there until turn 9 when I won. Never played him, never will.
