This weeks theme comes from Donnerfausuts, whose "Timmy the Impatient" was the winner of our "Alto" competition.
Competition-Specific Restrictions:
There's something we've seen every once in a while in our competitions that's a little odd: Folks will submit a minion that itself casts a spell. Typically these entries don't do extraordinarily well, but there have been a couple of exceptions, and while the concept is odd, it's perhaps not entirely without merit. This week we're going to explore the concept and see what we can do with it.
Your card must, itself, cast a spell. The most obvious existing examples include Yogg-Saron, Hope's End and Servant of Yogg-Saron, but you're free to have your cards cast specific spells rather than random ones.
There must be an easily identifiable reason why your card is casting a spell rather than just having an effect identical to that spell's effect. For example, you're going to have to justify why your weapon has "Battlecry: Cast Innervate" rather than just "Battlecry: Gain 2 Mana Crystals this turn only.". If you can't justify it, it's not going to qualify. For spells that deal damage, the justification is inherent, because the effect is going to benefit from Spell Damage in a way that even an identically worded Battlecry or other minion text would not. For other spells, however, you'll have to get a little more creative. For example, Mad Scientist and Mysterious Challenger arguably fit this week's theme because they cast spells that you have in your deck, requiring and consuming those cards. We will also accept text length concerns as sufficient justification; for example, this card that won one of our competitions last season would have much too lengthy card text if it were to entirely reproduce Shadowform's card text:
Points of Clarification: (1) Your card may be any card type: Minion, Spell, or Weapon. (2) We know from Yogg-Saron and its Servant that cards that cast spells themselves do not trigger effects that would normally trigger when a spell is played, like Flamewaker, Edwin VanCleef, Arcane Giant, Stonesplinter Trogg, etc.
As always, you may not delete any posts you make in this Submission Topic. Message one of the Fan Creation moderators if you've posted here in error or otherwise would like your post removed.
Remember that, although HearthCards is awesome, you must host your card somewhere other than Hearthcards, such asImgur or Photobucket.
General Competition Rules
These are the rules that remain consistent from competition to competition.
First, these are the rules about Posting:
You are allowed to submit only one entry. An entry normally consists of only one collectible card, plus any necessary additional material or commentary (explained below).
You are allowed to post in this Submission Topic only once, only to submit your one entry.
You may not delete ANY posts you make in this Submission Topic, not even accidental ones you may make over your one allowed, such as by double-posting or by accidentally posting something here that you meant for the Discussion Topic. If you do accidentally post more than once, inform any of the Fan Creation Forum moderators via PM, and we will handle it.
Speaking of the Discussion Topic, that is where any discussion of this competition should go. This thread is for submissions only. If you want to discuss your card or ask questions about the competition rules or process, you can find a link to the Discussion Topic at the top of this thread. Plenty of folks there will be happy to help you out.
Once you have submitted your one entry, you are allowed to make only minor changes to it. Minor changes are things like correcting typos or making balance changes that do not alter the spirit of your entry as determined by we the moderators. If you want to make any changes and have any doubts as to their legality, ask us first.
These are the rules about your Submission:
Accompanying the image of your card, you may offer some minimal additional commentary to explain its design, balance, and/or other qualities. Flavor text is also welcome.
You may not submit any Gold cards or animated cards. (It's just a cheap attention grab tactic that makes it unnecessarily difficult to determine what class your card is for.)
Your entry must be a card of your own creation. We've been doing this for a while, so if you blatantly rip off somebody else's idea, we will know.
Remember that, although HearthCards is awesome, you MUST host your card somewhere other than Hearthcards. Save it and upload it toImgur, Photobucket, or some other similar site. HearthCards has a limited server space and will purge cards after a few days, and nobody wants your card disappearing part-way through the finals. We understand that there are some HearthCards memberships that will allow you to save your card there for longer (and you should totally get one of those just for general fan creation purposes, by the way), but we don't know who has those memberships and we can't tell from the URLs.
Fun and even humorous entries are perfectly allowed, but "troll" entries will be disqualified. If you're worried that your card may be misinterpreted as a troll card, contact a moderator before you submit.
TIP: Though not a rule exactly, we highly recommend that you insert your images using this icon on the bar above the post text editor: . Just click that button and put in the URL of your image. Cards that are uploaded and attached to your post are not disallowed, but in our experience they will not do nearly as well, so this is for your own benefit more than anything.
Finally, know that manipulating votes in any way is strictly forbidden. Any violators will receive an official warning, and will be banned from this and all future HearthPwn Card Design Competitions.
Competition Process
Entry and Early Voting Phase (Starts Now! Ends 19:00 UTC 6/February/2017) During this Phase, the Submission Topic is made available for your submissions. You may also, of course, feel free to give early up-votes to any submissions that you like! Voting Phase (Starts 19:00 UTC 6/February/2017, Ends 19:00 UTC 7/February/2017) During this Phase, the Submission Topic will be locked, so no more entries may be submitted. Instead, use this time to browse the submissions and up-vote your favorites! Final Phase (Starts 20:00 UTC 7/February/2017, Ends 20:00 UTC 8/February/2017) During this Phase, the Discussion Topic will also be locked, and a new Poll Topic will go up. Discussion will be allowed to continue in the Poll Topic, and it will also include all the qualifying finalists and poll to decide the winner of the competition!
How do we determine the qualifying finalists? First, we'll pull up-vote data from each submission using the formula detailed below:
(ab) / (c) = x
Where, a = The total number of submissions on the same page as the submission. b = The total number of up-votes that the submission received. c = The total number of up-votes on the same page as the submission. x = The submission's final score.
The formula basically measures which cards stood out the most, with the necessary assumption that each page is about equal in overall submission quality. It will be the entries that receive the highest final scores that move on to the Final Phase.
The bottom line is that, although entries on the earlier pages of the Submission Topic are much more visible and thus receive many more up-votes than entries on later pages, you don't actually have to rush to get your entry in as soon as possible because the up-votes end up being weighted by what page your entry ends up on in order to determine its final score.
But wait, there's more! During each Weekly Card Design Competition, each Fan Creation Forum moderators will be given a Wild Card, which they can use to advance any one entry that they feel was initially overlooked or under-appreciated to the Final Phase, regardless of its final score. Wild Cards are our way of spicing things up a bit, but please don't ask to be given one or be upset if you aren't given one. These are just supposed to be fun. (Also, it should go without saying that, while we moderators are allowed to participate in the competitions, we are not allowed to benefit from Wild Cards.)
Rewards
Bragging rights are always awesome, but as usual, we do offer a couple of HearthPwn site rewards to competition winners: Their card forever immortalized in our Winners' Gallery! They will be allowed to select the next card design competition theme. And a unique Avatar Border & "Card Design Champion" Title, as depicted below!
This is a very unique legendary meant to be used in classic buff decks. Thinning your deck is strong, as we all know, but this encourages you to use very specific and creative deckbuilding so it won't just be slapped on any deck, and it only pulls a single card anyways. You can give it Divine Shield, make it a 4/5, make it buff your hand, play a Secret, the possibilities are nearly endless.
If your intuition is completely random, you probably shouldn't trust it.
In my experience, Secrets are the scariest when they're manufactured via a random effect or a discover (besides Kabal Chemist of course). In most cases, at least in constructed, you know almost for certain that it's within a given two or three Secrets. This will help to throw your opponent off by forcing them to re-test for Secrets they already tested for.
Also, imagine the Trolden videos about this repeatedly re-casting itself.
Hammer of the Righteous is a Paladin weapon that casts a random 1-cost spell from the players class. It will mostly cast a random Paladin secret, but in other classes, you can see some crazy outcomes. Upgrade! and Deadly Poison can make for a very cheap weapon. Like Yogg-Saron and his servant, it will only cast the spell on the appropriate target. That means Bestial Wrath will only work on friendly beasts.
It's never Vaporize...but he could be counting on me knowing that, and it is Vaporize. But if he knows that I know that he knows...ah, forget it, I'm just going to attack.
Perhaps the last bit of Secret synergy needed before Blizzard decides to print more Mage Secrets that are actually good. The value this card provides scales based off of how many secrets are in hand: with just 1, it's practically dead; with 2, you're getting a bit of value with a 2 mana discount; 3+ secrets, and suddenly you've got great value, with a 5 mana discount with potential for even more. Of course, that requires having a hand full of Secrets to begin with, but at least it's not a 6/6 body to go with it, breaking the game open with Christmas Tree Mage.
Meet the Lord Imp-axxus, the Imp Jaraxxus-wannabe that can't bear other demons. He destroys all demons on board (himself included), casting Sacrificial Pact on each one.
Considering Reno Jackson is going out of Standard, Warlock is in deep need of healing.
Good for Healing of course, you have 5 Health guaranted with this minion, and 5 more for each other demon on board.
It is also a super Demon removal in a mirror match
Still a removal to trigger your demons' Deathrattle, or simply make some space on an overflooded board (and kill that annoying Unlicensed Apothecary to play something bigger with enough Health)
Lord Jaraxxus is of course concerned - you can't play Imp-axxus to heal Jaraxxus... quite the opposite :)
( Forbidden FlameForbidden ShapingForbidden Ritual ) so on turn 10 you get 6 1/1 tentacles , a random 6 mana minion or a fireball, also the forbidden flame is target-able, or can be used at earlier stages in the game so its really flexible.
Considering the lore and the "new" archtype Rogue has received I thought this card would suit the class rather well in both effect and flavor. I'm under the process in animating it, thought I would try it's luck here as well.
Public Mod Note(ShadowsOfSense): Under Review: This could simply give summoned friendly minions +2 Health and draw a card. The listed synergy with Violet Teacher does not work.
The Violet Teacher has decided to enroll a new assistant, in order to help any Violet Apprentice in need... How, you ask? It is simple, since this card has crazy sinergy with the Teacher.
On turn 8, you play Violet Tutor, then Violet Teacher. Violet Tutor's effect triggers, casting a Power Word: Shield on her. But this is a Spell, so Violet Teacher's effect is triggered, and a Violet Apprentice is summoned. But this is a minion, so Violet Tutor's effect is triggered again... Long story short, this crazy loop will fill your board with Violet Apprentices and will let you draw LOTS of cards. A bit overpowered, maybe, but an interesting combo.
Of course, Violet Tutor's effect is triggered by any friendly summon, so maybe it could work in a Zoo Priest (something I don't even know if exists, but this card could be the first piece of a new archetype), or something like that.

Ofc targets chosen randomly, but with this note text is too long and i think it's clear enough without it anyway.
