It's time to bring back Design Duels. For those who have not seen any of the previous threads, these Design Duels are always a 1v1 design competition between two anonymous players. The two competitors don't even know each other. For those who like to compete in one of these, simply send me a PM and I will set you up for a match. Lately I have been trying to do 2 duels at the same time, one New Comer Design Duel (for those who have not done a design duel before) and a Veteran Design Duel. Anyone entering duels for the first time is automatically a New Comer, but once you've completed your first New Comer match you're bumped into veteran status. If you are interested in joining a duel, just send me a PM and I will add you to the queue. Now for New Comer Design Duel #8:
Design a set of three cards with "Can't be targeted by Hero Powers or abilities spells." (I play too much MTG)
Oh no. Too many words kill. Someone call the Kripp.
First of all, I don't like this prompt (sorry). Cards that prevent such an ability usually are hard to make. This will break the unspoken rule and cause there to be more than 4 lines of text.
Contestant 1 (6.5/15)
Mana Barrier 1/5: Does this affect last until the end of the game? This turn? or what? You need to specify. Also. It's just not worth 3 mana.
Mana Nibbler 4.5/5: I like the concept that you undo elusive minions, kind of like Blood Knight. This is a very hard prompt, and the way you did this card is perfect. The only complaint as that your art is overused. It's seem almost everywhere...
Giant Spellstomper 1/5: It's not good. All the giants are 8/8, and you should call it Spellstomper Giant. Unless of course this isn't a giant, but rather a Spellstopper that is very big. The battlecry is unusable, and this feels only like a reverse Arcane Giant.
Contestant 2 (6/5)
Haunted Blade 1.5/5: I don't like this one either. Just like the Spellstomper, it feels like the second half is just added to fit requirements. Although, this ability is slightly better, and the art is not a meme, I give it 1.5/5.
Ethereal Blade 2.5/5: The first half was nice. Then I read the mana cost and died. The concept of having your hero gain such an effect is good. The part about it being a weapon is good two. Remove the durability reduction and make the weapon cost (3) less, and you'll have 5/5.
Hollow Caster 2/5: All I see is a 4 mana 2/4 with spell damage. I recall a certain card called Ogre Mage in existence that is never played. Then I see this. The *(3/2) spell damage is okay-ish. But the decoys? Unless you hand them a taunt, they are pretty much useless. You need to change the wording, and change some effects. And art.
Through this, I choose Contestant #1. Thanks!
Update:
@RedneckBudha: I'll wreck you in M:tG anytime. I have an Modern Aggro Merfolk deck over here, although I don't have enough money for Force of Will and Aether Vials. Murlocs aren't the same as Merfolk. Merfolk are the rulers of Blue, who should be feared by all those who even dare wander near their realm. Merfolk like Kiora, Talrand, Jori En, Prime Speaker Zegana, and Noyan Dar are to be feared...
It's a prompt I wanted to try. I hadn't done it before and it's an underused group of text so I thought it'd be something new. As for M:tG I only play Commander and Modern so... I hope you like artifacts and slivers
Fudge. Slivers. Galerider Sliver vs Lord of Atlantis.. Sinew Sliver vs Master of the Pearl Trident... Manaweft Sliver vs Merrow Reejerey.... Sliver Hive vs Well, Islands... So basically a weaker version of Merfolk... Ill deal. btw, sorry for turning this from a hearthstone forum to a MtG one...

Yeah, this is definitely a tough prompt, because that effect is long. Its a huge amount of eaten up, and HS doesn't make cards over 4 lines of text. That means that you have to go more toward simple and instead both entrants went way past that. This is just a word jumble and a bit of a mess.
Entrant 1 IMO only had 1 good card, the second one. The first card has to be missing something. The third one is just a cheesefest. I'm not a huge fan of the approach.
Entrant 2 starts a touch over where they need, but its at least somewhat novel. Card 2 is again a bit of a mess, but I think it could be worded to fit into 4 lines and its my favorite card on pure usage. The third card is another giant mess. Its confusing and weird and not pleasant to read, but not a bad card.
I'm gone with entrant 2 solely on liking the overall concepts more. I'm sure no one wanted to just make a more or less vanilla minion, but sometimes that isn't a bad thing. Simple is fine when execution is good.

To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of the women.
Gratz Xigent! I made a mistake of making my cards more combo orientated as well as making a "meme" card (only in the name) thought poeple didnt seem to get that giant spellstomper is the opposite of wee spellstomper so soellstomper giant would not work as a name. Overall i did think your cards were better so good job with that My favourite of you cards was the one with Spectral Spiders

Thankyou cL4wzHS - Well Played, to use a HS Meme. It was a close one and could have gone either way. I definitely think you were streets ahead in the art department.
